/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - COFFEE HURRICANE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I’m considering getting the division road Whites 350 cruisers with the logger heel. Should I go for this? I’ve tried on a pair of 350 cruisers in person and I really dig the fit, but I want to get a pair of shit kickers that I can use to trudge through the woods when I move to Alaska next year. I haven’t experienced walking in a pair of loggers, but they seem like a good bet for something to use for this purpose

Yeah, it wouldn’t be my first choice either. I’d prefer the black or brown cxl, but in terms of Whites boots with logger heels, this is the only pair that seems to be available on the internet with my size. I guess I could get a custom made pair of bounty hunters from Bakers, but I really don’t feel like waiting fucking 9 months for a pair of boots that I’ll be spending $700+ on

>> No.17776528

if you're concerned about the logger heel, it'll take a week or two to get used to it. the biggest difference is that you'll find yourself standing up a little straighter than before like the weight has been taken off your lower back. hard to describe but even harder to turn away from once you experience it

The materials in the Thorogoods are all synthetic so yeah they wont last long term but they do have an absolutely stellar reputation among laborers. Clearly the build quality is very good. The RW are obviously better boots but how many people actually work in them? I've heard their sizing is dogshit so they're often uncomfortable. He's better off with the Thorogoods unless he's a heritage boot guy.

it's funny that they obviously market themselves to the american heritage wear scene, but refuse to have an english translation on their site
also for some reason every boot model recently wears these okayama denim x pure blue japan kakishibu denim, which is weird to see everywhere, because they were a limited pre-order directly from japan

PNW is pacific north west, typically they have lower stitches per inch for the stitches.

if you look at the pic, the plain toe have a higher stitches per inch, SPI, higher SPI looks more refined, but obviously weakening the leather because you're punching more holes in it

I don't know why you're talking about cutting the boot in half to examine the insole because you can just pull it out and look at it. Foam is much more comfortable than leather. The insole is replaceable so it doesn't make sense to go for durability over comfort there. It's not visible to other people so it can't be justified as a matter of fashion either. Basically no one who works on their feet would choose leather over foam but if when the time comes to replace the insole you think it happened too fast, you can buy a leather insole and use it from then on.

If they are New Old Stock, ie. never worn or tired on, then reconditioning them will restore them. McRae is generally a good manufacturer, but I'm unsure of whether they even use leather footbeds anymore, especially since they were standard in most USGI boots up to the ACU change.

So my company gave me a pair of Timberland Direct Attach boots for work. They were getting a little dirty so I decided to clean them but I've never owned leather boots before so I just got a "pumpkin soap" from wallmart because it said it was specifically to clean leather shoes, and now my boots are shiny as fuck.
They look kinda cool like this but they were originally opaque.

>> No.17785107

>>17785100
It doesn't fail, it has really good pull up, it is really durable, any almost all scratches can just be rubbed out.
It can have bad creasing once it is lasted, but it's really just an aesthetic thing, and companies that give a shit about that like viberg know how to click it so it doesn't happen.
There are different grades of chromexcel, you're never going to get the most visually pleasing chromexcel from a turdsday boot or a wolverine 1000 mile.

i don't know what their deal is
nobody really seems to buy st. crispin, even though they have a reputation for being one of the best shoemakers in the world, according to their retailers at least, the ultra high end dress shoe bros seem to completely ignore them
nobody cares or has any real strong opinion on them, because they just don't do anything outstanding or special in any way
there is not much info, other than them being made 95% by hand in gypsyland, romania
i don't think anyone gives a shit all that much if the medallion is punched one hole at a time by hand by a bearded lady on break from fortune telling or just a machine
the patterns are either super classic generic or completely bonkers ostentatious with little inbetween
prices seem outrageous when you can just get bonafe or meccariello for half the price, even bonafe shell is still significantly cheaper than any generic calf form st crispin

>> No.17785220

>>17785209
They are popular enough, the thread on SF gets quite a bit of traffic. I would try them, but the price is indeed quite high, and i would probably just go for another Bonafe boot instead. I have no clue what they are supposedly doing better than Bonafe or AM to charge much higher prices than those 2. If i happen to find a deal from some retailer some day maybe.

>> No.17785246

>>17785220
I just checked out their MTO service - i saw the base price at around 1400eur, and i thought that's not THAT bad. But they charge you 120 eur for a stormwelt and vibram commando sole and they also charge you if you want to modify the fit a bit. Bonafe does a bunch of basic pattern changes, feathering and other stuff like patina for free, at least at skoak, lorenzo did charge me 30 bucks for feathering at the toebox and ball). And all at almost half the price.

Coniston would look so much better without the hidden eyelets. Kelso looks decent but obviously it is also very plain but I liked the brown rough-out suede a lot so natural is probably good too.

I wonder what Tricker's will come out with. They have created a page for the fall/winter release but there is nothing there so I guess it is coming really soon.
