How do avoid falling into the Casio rabbit hole?

Since there are so many different styles, with tons of old models and there are always new models coming out I'm worried I will have like a whole box of these. They are inexpensive but it can quickly add up and I don't like having a lot of stuff.

I have the 41 in black, I love it. It is all up to personal preference though. I enjoy all of the design choices of the AT personally.
I like the polished center links, unlike most people. I also prefer the smaller profile of a butterfly clasp, you get to see more links rather than a large slab of metal for the clasp. Of course if you prefer a strap, this point is irrelevant.
I also prefer the independent hour hand movement of the 8900, note that the 38mm has the 8800 with the quick set date instead. Both movements are great though.
I also like the dial symmetry with the date at 6, and no magnification on the crystal. Open case back is also a plus for me.

Is there anything in particular you are concerned about?

>>17740972

>"Traditional watches" sound better.
Nah. How about just "watch"?
After all, everything else is but a sub group of this original category.
>sports watch
>diver's watch
>racing watch
>field watch
the these descriptors only serve to differentiate those specialised tools from the original thing, just a watch worn by the ordinary non soldier, non diver, non whatever man.
>dress watch
has always annoyed me.
People in the past never called them dress watches.
They were just "watch".
The sports watch mania only exists because actual baby boomers went through midlife crises by the 1990's and wanted to evoke the vigour of youth by wearing a totem that they thought imbued their aged bones and sagging, sun damaged skin with some kind of borrowed strength. The trend carried over and is now waning, or at least the market has finally so diverged from this demographic that finally people are not defaulting to a steel "diver's style" watch.

I'm calling it a watch, because that's what it is.

The only reason for their retardation that makes sense is likely to do with swatch's usual source of retardation in regards to hamstringing brands they own: enforced market segmentation.
They don't want to do the sensible because it eats into something else in their portfolio of brands somehow. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure that's the reason some besuited cunt in swatchgroup's upper management uses to enforce shit decisions.

I don't believe Richemont nor LVMH are as bad as Swatch in this regard. I can't think off the top of my head an instance where it was obvious that a Richemont name was being curtailed in favor of one of the other names.

yes.
If you want something nice buy ONE (1) that you like the look of and fuckoff from watch consoooomer related social media FOREVER.
Wear said watch for as long as you wear a watch.
The End.
Imagine that the talk is not about watches, but wedding bands, or bracelets or necklaces or some other trinket.
Buying and talking about buying and showing off jewelry isn't a hobby; making jewelry is.
Apply the same to watches.

That B&R doesn't offer enough to justify their price versus anything similar imo. Generic ass looking field watch you can get anywhere isn't particularly enticing vs say any given Hamilton or whatever. It's going to be mostly chinese made anyway so unless you're really captured by that specific combination of the very basic principles that make up a field watch, I personally don't see the need to pay 2grand for something you could get elsewhere, more or less, for cheaper.

These cute little Piaget with stone dials are very hot on the second hand market right now.
Richemont won't make reissues of these because it would hurt Cartier Tank's line.

Firesell the fucking remainder of your "collection". Holy crap it's crap. Like trash can tier crap.

>> No.17742312

There's an important point you forgot. This guy bought absolute trash (apart the Tag), random generic piece of shit cheap watches, while Archie USED TO preach that you shouldn't even buy a Seamaster because it's using an ETA base caliber (though sane people know the Omega calibers since the 90s are modified and assembled by Omega themselves). This is where he was wrong and he even admitted that. Now that doesn't mean you should be buying Tissot and pretending it's great, that's still trash. What it means is, while you shouldn't have a collection of only ETA shitters, it's totally fine to own a few if the watch is remarkable in other ways. For example, a Seamaster is a very respected model by the #2 watch brand in the world. People like it for the Bond tie in alone, so nobody gives a fuck what movement it's got. Same for most IWCs, which people buy just to have the IWC fit and finish and minimalist design, also true for Breitling, who a few years ago for the FIRST TIME in their history started making an in house movement. Breitling has NEVER been a movement maker, but a watch maker, and yet they are super respected in the watch world - even Rolex respects them. That's why it's also fine to own a Navitimer without the in house movement, or a Superocean with the ETA, and so on.

Archie himself even owned the Valjoux Navitimer and still misses it, he knows the value of that piece and it ain't in the fucking movement. Now again, you should also, when you can afford it, buy serious pieces with in house movements, but it's not like your entire collection must consist of them. Buy a Rolex, eventually. Get a Speedy or some other Lemania based watch. If you can, go for a JLC or VC. Get whatever floats your boat, but buy ICONIC watches from reputable makers, and don't worry about the stupid fucking movement because it doesn't affect market prices, it only affects whether you like it or not maybe.

I wear my watch 24/7, my ISO certified Seiko SKX779 lasted me from 2014 to 2019, only started running like 15 mins slow per month the 5th year of ownership before I sold it, never serviced it.

My Longines HydroConquest which isn't ISO certified that I got in 2019 I had to sell this year because it randomly just stopped overnight and whenever I'd reset the time it would run slow for a few hours and then stop again. Wasn't magnetised (had Longines de-mag, they said it either needed a service or repair). Thankfully sold it for $1600 as the buyer wasn't aware of the issue (it appears to work for a few hours).

In my limited experience, non-ISO divers don't hold up to 24/7 wear when you're weightlifting, swimming, showering and using the sauna with your watch
