Nothing wrong with brown shoes and OCBDs. Focus on "boring" but functional items that match with other things you own so you can expand your fit variety. Get a pair of chinos, khaki or navy. Basic but works with your OCBDs and brown shoes. Start small, don't get overwhelmed.

Unless of course you have a shitload of money and want to spend ASAP in which case here's part 1

Hi all, I've recently purchased an old-school navy blazer and currently I'm looking for nice white trousers to pair it with. Since I don't have much experience with blazers, I've got a few questions:

>Should you wear it with woolen or chino trousers?
>How about pleats?
>Are gurkha pants a good choice?
>Can I wear a dark navy blazer with a little off-colour, but still deep navy pants?

>> No.17738373

>>17738346
>>Should you wear it with woolen or chino trousers?
Both work but blazer, OCBD and chinos is the "uniform" for /tip

>>How about pleats?
Yes. Good choice if you're wearing straight/loose pants. Pleats look great in motion, not so great in pics. Be aware.

>>Are gurkha pants a good choice?
Yes. But not with a navy blazer. The blazer will obscure the "point" of the ghurkas which is the waist band. It still works fine and looks good, it's just not the best choice.

>>Can I wear a dark navy blazer with a little off-colour, but still deep navy pants?
No no no no, no and hell no. Please don't do that, it just doesn't work. You need contrast between top and bottom.

>Should you wear it with woolen or chino trousers?
It depends what look you are going for. Chinos will be a tad more casual, but still nice. Either works, but I would say the Chinos are more Ivy
>How about pleats?
That is largely up to personal preference in looks imo, but I prefer, and would reccomend, no pleats.
>Are ghurkha pants a good choice?
While not terrible, I do think the unitlity and timelessness of the Chinos or wool trousers would be better.
>Can I wear a dark navy blazer with a little off-colour, but still deep navy pants?
No. It won't look good, and it will make you look like you don't know what you are doing.

>>Can I wear a dark navy blazer with a little off-colour, but still deep navy pants?
No, the reason that's bad is because it would look incongruous. At a glance it would look like almost like a suit, but it isn't. A blazer is not a suit jacket, it's not supposed to match the trousers.

People might disagree with me (and for good reason) but I recommend Clarks desert boots. I got a pair after wearing sneakers for a long time. They were only $50 on sale. They're surprisingly comfortable, in fact even more so than most of the sneakers I've worn. They also look nice. I got the beeswax color and they work with light or regular jeans and of course with chinos in various colors.

They are not built well. The leather itself is adequate and in fact nice, at least for a pleb like me, the laces are just okay, but the construction overall isn't so great--one of my shoes had the sole pull away from the shoe within weeks of purchase. Because of that I have a somewhat low opinion of Clarks, but in all other regards I like the shoes so much that I may still buy a pair again. But it's definitely something to watch out for. I bought a tube of shoe goo and fixed it myself and I wear them all the time.

Best slim fit khakis and/or chinos?
I know slim fit is not as tip but I’m a skinny albeit muscular (in a cut Bruce Lee way) manlet and slim fits look way better on me on just about every fit I’ve tried.
regular fits look too baggy unless I’m actually dressed up in full tip attire(they look/feel more like loose fits) but for casual fits slim fit is my only option.

>> No.17741370

>>17740405
What fit did you try? Brooks has Milano, regent, and traditional (last time i bought). Milano is slim, regent is average, traditional is baggy. For me even the regent is too slim for my taste.
Sounds like you just dont like a traditional ivy cut shirt. The wrists & collar (and shoulders but less strict) are what determines fit. The chest is cut baggier for more movement, breathability, and a different silhouette.

You just need to start tucking them right, play around with it, maybe a military tuck. And I retuck once or twice a day to fight the muffin top.

Best shirtmaker? I'm looking to expand my shirt collection, so far it's mostly Emanuel Berg & Turnbull & Asser. I've thought about going to Budd, as I've heard only good things about them, but I'm not sure if they do trunk shows in Germany. That would be a requirment, I don't want to fly halfway across the world everytime I need a new shirt.

Why is buying shoes so hard? I found a nice pair of Allen Edmond's going for $150 and a lot of reviews of the shoe on their website are negative. And apparently all of the lesser brands have QC issues and will fall apart in a year, not goodyear welted, etc etc.

Is the only alternative to spend $800 on a pair of Alden shoes or am I missing something here?

>> No.17749880

Pants here >>17747890 are more /tip/ than anyone else's outfit posted here in the recent history. What a beautifully crafted piece. Preppy was historically about incorporating some fun, more casual pieces into your outfits. You should rather understand the rules behind style instead of copycating some old Princeton photos. Preppy as (poorly) understood in this thread is a dead style. I've finished Oxbridge, and virtually no one was dressing to the iota like on those photos. Most of the people from an appropriate class have worn some OBCDs, loafers, jeans and college stash. Some ethnic elements like jackets or hats one bought during his travels were always well received, too. I can guarantee you that the "gaudy" jacket criticized here would be much better received than some preppy LARP with a cream tennis jumper.
>>17749862
If this is not twiggy for you, then you seriously need to hit the gym. This applies to most of the posters I've seen here, too. You want to exude some classical masculinity and confidence by dressing /TIP/ but you all look like kids LARPing as adults. The thing is that the way you dress should be contextual. If you're not a part of the society, or have an appropriate job, then dressing /TIP/ will always be a LARP for you. I work as a banker and need to dress down most of my outfits unless I'm going to a club or have some other occasion. I'm sorry to be the first one to break it down to you, but being into clothes outside the societal context is a feminine hobby.

Girl is cheating on him? Tiny dick? There is no good answer here, only obvious insecurity.

It depends on the occasion. Either an OCBD or a broadcloth dress shirt could work. The OCBD's texture goes well with the material of the suit, but a more formal dress shirt would not be incorrect.

>Educate yourself what is a college in Oxbridge
Again, ESL. I was under the impression that they taught English at English colleges, but I may be wrong. And again, how did you "finish Oxbridge" when it's a collective term for two different schools? That's like saying you "graduated the Ivy League." Brush up on your English and cultural knowledge before you try to do this again, Babu. You may even fool us next time!

I didn't mention it was double breasted. Does that change the equation? Flannel = less formal, Full Suit = More Formal, Double Breasted = More Formal. Surely an OCBD is too informal?

Get a grip lol. I shared my opinion about /tip/ larpers in this thread. It hurt your feelings, so you wanted me to post fits to have something to pick on. I posted two recent fits I had saved on my phone, so you started making shit up about me and my physique instead. I posted body, so you started behaving like every nerd who got bullied would: mumbling to yourself with resentment towards me. I'm not going to go any deeper into this argument. My honest advice is to focus less on copying 60 years old photos, start paying attention to social context, and lift some weights or sign up for martial art class, and I mean here real stuff like boxing not some jap stuff for weirdos.

From what i've worn:
Madras > seersucker > linen
Linen is good, but there's the wrinkling issue, and it can also be a bit rough in texture. Seersucker feels more breathable than linen Madras is as breathable as seerucker, if not more, but it's also very soft. The downside is that the pattern makes it a lot less versatile than a solid or striped seersucker.
Agree or disagree?

Is that an unbuttoned button-down? Doesnt look good that way, it looks too huge and protrudes too much. The ivy standard is button-down under the sweater. But letting the collar out can also look good, provided it's a smaller collar, maybe a spread. OCBD collars are bigger than normal because they need extra length to create the bell shape.

Which can be a good thing. For example with chore jackets

Disagree
>The downside is that the pattern makes it a lot less versatile than a solid or striped seersucker.
Agree
Let me fix that for you:
tropical wool > linen >= seersucker >>>> madras (which is extremely nerdy and should be avoided unless you are very well built)

>Which can be a good thing. For example with chore jackets
Thats fine for a jacket, but less desirable for something directly on the skin.
Maybe i just dont have the best linens.
Tropical wool is also great, i was thinking in terms of shirt fabrics and didnt consider it.
How is madras nerdy?

Have you ever worn linen shirt?
>Maybe i just dont have the best linens.
Might be but even low tier stuff like linen shirts from SuitSupply are really soft on skin. Or you just have extremely sensitive skin.
>How is madras nerdy?
In 9/10 cases it will look like straight out of the IT crowd. Again, it's a really socially contextual piece of clothing. I can imagine it working in some frat context, or perhaps on a regatta or something.

Never watched that show, is this what youre referencing?
I pick madras with very pastel summery plaids, and obviously dont wear them with a tie, so the vibe isnt the same. Theyre supposed to be very casual and seasonal.
>>17750564
This guy is wearing it over a thick sweater, which is completely un-seasonal and makes it look skintight. I dont typically go to GQ for style inspiration, who does?
>>17750566
Now this guy buttoned the top button, and paired it with dark jeans. Of course that looks bad, but theres nothing wrong with the shirt itself. Find some pics of guys wearing them with shorts and casual shoes.

Guys, I know this is 4chan, but I really think if you find it in any way acceptable to hurl such bile and vulgarity towards others so casually then this style is really not for you. Manners maketh the man. Please conduct yourself better, if not out of respect for others, then out of respect for yourself, that you won't debase yourself like this. This style expects that you aspire to refine yourself in other matters than dress, otherwise it becomes an empty cultural signifier.
Otherwise, keep quiet, and maybe consider other styles that might fit your personality better. Something like picrel, perhaps?

are you seriously going to let a dead meme about atheists from the early 2010s make you cringe at the idea of holding yourself or anyone else to a standard of politeness? As if you are scared that's what people will think of you if you don't let loose every rotten thought and proclamation that a conservative, polite society would rightly tell you to keep to yourself, and look down on you if you didn't?
if this style of dress, often considered to be "conservative" isn't for people who are themselves conservative in the way they conduct themselves, then who on earth is it for? what does it mean?
How can you expect me to see a man dressed like an educated, well-to-do man of business and leisure, and not feel confident that he isn't going to speak to me like just another vulgar, classless bottom feeder?
I don't think you actually wear this style, and if you do, it's not because you stand for anything it represents.

You will never be a real Preppy. You have no WASP heritage, you have no sense of decorum, you have no prospects. You are a degenerate channerite twisted by spite and arrogance into a crude mockery of a so-called "gentleman".

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disappointed and pitiful of you, your “friends” laugh at your slovenly appearance behind closed doors.

Real gentlemen are utterly repulsed by you. Years of study and culture have allowed them to sniff out posers with incredible efficiency. Even /tip/fags who “pass” look uncanny and awkward to a gentleman. Your fit is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a poorfag to hang with you, he’ll make an excuse to leave the second he gets a taste of your vulgar, unacceptable attitude.

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself you're going to be effay, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll sell your clothes, ties, and shoes, buy some cheap hoodies and sneakers, and resign yourself to being just another dripless commoner. Your parents will see you, upset but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable cringe and embarrassment. They’ll buy you cotton crew socks for christmas, and nobody for the rest of eternity will know about you. Your online footprint will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is some cheap clothing on eBay for sale.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

Im a brit and sometimes wear shirts with button down collars but I prefer it when the collar isnt button down most of the time. The button down shirts I have are either in the style of Americans check shirts or cheap linens I got from Zara. Repeated small prints of nature stuff like pic rel is considered well dressed and sometimes even semi-formal even if the collar is button down in northern England. I like to wear these under a thin jumper.
