I wear a plain silver band on my left pinky, almost exactly like the one in this photo.

FYI
plain gold - silver bands on pinky fingers are associated with the LGBTQ subculture, right pinky finger iirc

>An expression of sexuality

"During the 1950’s and 60’s signet rings were worn to signify membership of the gay community; both lesbians and homosexual men wore such rings. Such a fashion statement meant that people didn’t have to confess to their sexuality verbally, and they could simply wear this ring as a symbol of their sexual preference."

this faggot AGAIN? any time 'signet ring' comes up this motherfucker comes up out the woodwork and talks about how he has a signet ring with his 'family crest'.

families do not have crests. there is no such thing as a family crest: a 'crest' is a term for the elements placed on the top of the helm above a coat of arms.
arms, in any case, do not denote families and never have. they are personal property and are generally inherited through the paternal line, as a sort of heirloom. cadet branches (the descendants of second, third, etc. sons) usually have 'differenced' arms, arms with certain elements altered or added to mark a distinction between the primary and secondary lines of descent. that means only one person can bear particular arms at once. historically, supporters or family members bore 'badges.'

there is an industry for selling stupid, uneducated people 'family crests' and 'family coat-of-arms'. usually these are americans. this is because americans are uniquely obsessed with genealogy due to their 'melting pot' and cosmopolitan euromutt culture. they want to feel connected to some sort of ancestral tradition, so they get sold these big gay 'family crest' certificates or go to jewelers to get some family crest they pulled off the internet put on a faggot ass signet ring.

there are two quasi-exceptions to this: japanese mon and scottish clan badges. the former are not true arms, they belong to a separate, unconnected tradition of heraldry but do in fact denote families. scottish clan badges are not arms, but they denote membership in a highland clan, which is based on family descent. as a member of the Fleming family of Lanarkshire, I can wear such a badge. but I cannot wear, for example, picrel; despite what plenty of people will try to sell me as the "Fleming family crest." the last earl of wigton died with no heirs, with no one to inherit his arms.

there are three ways, and three ways only, to wear heraldic elements and not be a complete faggot:

>inherit arms
this is probably not you. if you have to be taught heraldry 4 babies, you probably haven't inherited arms. there is a remote chance you can assume an ancestor's arms, if you do your research and go back into your line and find a patrilineal ancestor.

>be scottish and have a special name
if you are like me and have a scottish surname and descent, you may be entitled to wear a clan badge. historically this meant you were a supporter and/or relative of the clan chief, and you wore his crest (the bit above the helm, as mentioned) to show that support. picrel for me.

>assume arms
this is the most chad and patrician way to wear arms. if you are american, you can literally just design your own arms and 'assume' them. you don't need anything official, but there are some genealogical societies who will register your arms in their journal. in some choice places in europe, there are laws surrounding this: in scotland for example you must be granted arms by the lord lyon, king of arms. if you have even a single scottish ancestor, i believe he will grant you differenced arms.

if you aren't a bonafide, old world aristocrat you have two choices: larp or autism. clearly i have chosen the autism, which is the patrician and chad answer.

you are a faggot. you do not have any noble ancestors. you wear stolen arms because you are a fat american with no traditions and no culture. 'nobody stops you' because you smell bad and are the size of a blimp, therefore you repulse normal people.

with a bit of research and learning you could learn the basics of heraldry and assume arms. or, if you truly have a 'noble ancestor' (you do not) then you can get differenced arms, genuinely connecting you in authentic heraldic tradition to your ancestor in a way that would recognizable to them and also heritable for your descendants (you will have none. you will die alone.)

however this would mean having an triple-digit IQ and respect for heraldry as a tradition; of which you have neither. assuming arms means you can't larp as a noble with your "family crest" faggot signet ring that you got because your faggot uncle looked up "xyz family crest" and then died of type II diabetes, the ultimate fate for all amerifats.
