What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.

Wedge soles are incredibly comfortable when you're on your feet. I used to hate them too but the look really grew on me in recent years. To the point where I'm fiendishly wanting a pair of plain toe boots with a wedge sole too like the White's Ramblers in the OP.

I am not that anon but I have Vibergs in 'E' width which is one size wider than normal and I also have Aldens in 'E' width which is also one size wider than normal and the two are completely different.

The Aldens are extremely comfortable, regardless if I wear thin socks or thick wool socks, whereas the Vibergs are tight and narrow regardless of socks but I can only wear them with wool socks because of how heavy they are.

I found this photo on SF and it perfectly shows what is wrong with shell
It just reflects so much light and 'creases' so oddly that it draws attention to itself.

Unless you buy your shoes way too small so the leather is always taut it will look odd.

I have both Carmina and Viberg boots and Viberg is overpriced by comparison, but also looks and feels very different.
The leather is way thicker, the sole is much heavier, the last is much rounder.

I think Viberg is a nice in-between the very crudely made Whites and Nicks and the elegant and soft Euroboots of Carmina, C&J, EG, EB etc.
There's still some fine handywork on the Vibergs, nice skiving on the edges, insanely high SPI etc, and the last isn't a total potato like other American boots.

If I was buying a brown CXL service boot again I probably wouldn't spend the money on Vibergs though.

Well it depends what you are looking for.

If you want a brown Chromexcel boot, Carmina can do it cheaper and Alden can do it more comfy than Viberg.

But if I'm honest, now that I know my sizing, I'd probably do an Enzo Bonafe boot in Sienna Hatch Grain instead, 363mod last, 270 welt, Ridgeway soles. Roughly same price as Vibergs.
You cannot do storm welts or norvegese on Bonafe. It's an option yes, but it is also a mistake. Do not.

Carmina has a ton of lasts but only a few get talked about, I assume that's because those are the good fitting ones but who knows.

Just remember that Carmina 'EEE" doesn't mean 'EEE' it just means one size wider than the normal version.
So Rain EEE or Forest EEE is actually just E.
Detroit is already wide (let's say E) so Detroit EEE is actually EEE.
Soller and Llubi are also kinda wide by default, but Llubi is clownish on the toe.

Probably their most common boot last is Oscar, it's close to Forest, maybe a little wider, longer. Somewhere between Forest and Soller I guess.

The 2040 is a bump toe, it does not slim down your foot profile and some anons get pissed off about that. If you're worried about bunions, the 2040 is pretty much what you would want to get if you want to wiggle your toes and still feel snug everywhere else. That's kinda what it's designed for. Yeah honestly it's not awful, but the one on the right (363mod) is what a real 'G' width (equivalent to US/Viberg 'E') should be like.

My biggest gripe with the Vibergs is how heavy they are and the dainite sole, and these two things compound each other.
Dainite is such an awful sole, very hard, no cushioning, zero grip on wet floors.

I plan to sell them around March or so when winter is ending. I really like their looks though.
