/btg/ - ROLLED WELT Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

keep in mind though that if the taper doesn't naturally tighten enough to fit the hem in the boots or ends just above them (usually the case of skinny pants), never push your hem inside the chelsea like it's some combat boot. Some people unironically do that and it's bad.

I'm talking about durability of footwear in general. I've never had anything fall apart on me. The ones in the pic I bought in September 2018 (4 years ago) and they're the only footwear I wore between November and through February. Except on first dates, of which there weren't many. The soles have worn out but otherwise nothing has detached, ripped or fell apart. The price? $90 IIRC. Brand? HH whatever that is. How I took care of them? I would wipe bird shit or mud with a wet wipe and literally nothing else.

And my experience with Timberlands and every other shoe including sneakers is the same. They just gradually get worn out after years of wear.

So when you weirdos obsess about goodyear welts and stitching and leatherboards and cementing and stuff like that, I just don't get it.

Shoes. Don't. Just. Fall. Apart. At least none of the <$100 mall kind I wear.

>> No.17364435

This. Heritage boots are simply less durable. They're made by people afraid of modern techniques and modern materials.
Hell, even Doc Martins, those much-hated boots, hold up just fine. Replace the sole, put some shoe black on any scuffs, and you're FINE.

Cobblers are just faggots crying out that their industry is dying.

You think this is the case? I was going to buy a pair of thin socks, maybe this would help a bit. Theyre honestly fine to wear for the first few hours of working but they get tiring and the stuff i explained above. My other pair of boots had a rough break in period as well so i do hope its just that. Ill give my feet a rest today and wear my worn in boots i suppose.
>2 hours first day
>2x2 hours the next
Issue with this is i dont really have the luxury of wearing them for short periods since icant really swap them out when i want to.

wool socks do very well with air drying. leave a worn pair out over night, wear the other pair next day, rinse and repeat

Disappointed with my Grant Stones. Pic related is the left boot insole after ~8 hrs of wear. It feels like the leather insole completely sunk in as if there was no shank or cork underneath. Right boot is completely fine and comfortable but the left on feels like dogshit. The way the left boot wore in leaves a noticeable shelf from the heel to the arch which causes a pressure point. So much for the full grain insole meme.
