What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Also go get a pair of gyw boots with cork and a pair of full leather stitchdown boots resoled and tell me which one is cheaper and will get more resoles with out having to have parts of the vamp/upper replaced. You shouldn’t need a cleaner unless you’ve stained it or it’s caked in dirt. A good brushing or wipe with a rag followed by conditioner should be enough. If it’s a chrome tanned roughout there are specific greasy leather creams that you may want or just VSC. Shoe trees will help to boot dry and maintain its shape.

Guys, I'm no longer a poorfag and want to spend some dough on a quality pair of boots (up to $300). I'm in US. Any suggestions?

I'd like something durable, stylish, and versatile (something I can dress up or down).

What are my options or do I need to increase budget?

Thanks friends.

Some do.
They should all do it, leather as filler is vastly superior to cork.
That pic shows how a leather filler can be perfectly reused, and in fact should be since it will have molded to the user's feet perfectly.

I know Viberg says there's no need to condition their boots when you buy them because they are conditioned before they are shipped, but I had no idea how long they've been in a box before I bought them from the retailer, so I thought I'd do it anyway just before winter really starts.

Didn't seem to change their color or darken them at all, honestly not much difference so I guess maybe they didn't need it yet anyway.

Why are soles with metal protection so hard to find these days? They can allow you to go basically forever without having to resole, just replace the protectors after some years. Unfortunately not even just tip or heel protectors are common, yet those are the parts that wear out the fastest and do so visibly.

I usually glue pieces of rubber under the sole at the tip and heel parts and that way I get no visible wear on them at all, just replacing the rubber after some months.

Suede just wants two things, an anti-water spray (Saphir Invulner) every 6 months and a bit of brushie
If you drop something on it then you can use saphir's suede eraser.
If you drop a bowl of chicken grease on it then maybe you actually need saphir's suede soap. But that's extreme.

I thought putting a pencil on the vamp to force the leather to crease horizontally and at the correct spot when you first wear new shoes is bogus
But apparently it isn't

There's no point doing it later, after you take the first few steps the leather has already decided how to crease. It cannot be fixed or changed afterwards.

If they are old you and used you may need to buy Saphir's suede soap, comes with a little brush and all. And then you will need to brush the suede to lift up the hairs after it dries, normally for suede it's a crepe brush (softer) or a brass brush (harder) but for day to day de-dusting I just use a normal horsehair brush like all my other shoes.

I think I might just ditch the suede matte and just ruin it with mink oil, because my boots are black and it will probably look like leather. I got the boots for $5, I don't want to spend that much on a spray.
But I'll see, maybe when I get the boot, it's still water proof and I don't need to do anything.

Carmina also has CXL but you pay a little more than Grant Stone and their lasts are dressy.

For those asking about suede care I finally got around to doing the full Saphir treatment (Omni shampoo + neutral renovateur spray + invulner) on my suede NSTs. Was a bit overdue since they’re 6 years old (probably my most worn pair of Aldens) and in their lifetime have only seen occasional brushing + water proofing spray. The renovateur spray makes a huge difference. I should have bought it sooner.

Here’s a before pic from a few weeks ago. The biggest difference I noticed is the shampooing help get rid if the creasing. The suede was dry before as well so it also feels much softer now. nah that's dumb. Don't spend money on bad products
if you already have it that's one thing, but don't go buy shitty boots just so you can rotate.

you can rotate two $300 boots and be fine. Each boot will have a full rest day to dry out. Unless you drenched them, that's plenty of time.
It's when someone wears the same boots day after day after day, constantly sweating in them, that bacteria will start to grow.
