not entirely true, in my research for their origin and alternatives, I found some korean website (reondistrict) that makes replicas of slp stuff, including ranger boots. I believe you need an account and some permissions to navigate, but I know they have the double zippers model replica (eugh) and they do custom pieces, so it might be possible to ask for that model with no zips (or only one). Then again in their pics with models wearing it, the boot looks kinda bulkier than the original, then again that might just be the fact that their models are very thin and short korean twinks.

Dry them out, use shoe trees (if you haven't already for some reason), give them a polish with shoe cream that's slightly lighter than the color of your boots. It won't go completely away but it will develop a uniform look. If it still bothers you, just cope and call it patina

from what i've seen on the areas that get worked and scuffed the most it definitely goes away and what is left is some subtle marbling on the shaft
i thought it would crease and wrinkle along the grains accentuating the "honeycombs", but it kind of just rolls randomly and wrinkles exposing a really rough and porous surface
a new pair looks so amazing, but it ages kind of meh, which i think defeats the purpose of forking over a hefty premium for it over regular leather options

One of my local cobblers can resole Goodyear welted boots to factory quality, which he did with a pair of iron rangers I had, and one I haven't used but he posts hand stitched soles and things he does. Redoing the welt on White's might be a lot for someone who isn't a full on boot maker though.

Wrong. A holdfast is whatever you stitch the welt to. The holdfast job is to hold the inseam fast. You can carve out nothing, stitch straight into the flat insole and the insole would be the holdfast itself.
