/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - UMBER EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

I won't lie, I knew Thursdays had something similar already, and I didn't buy those already because they are notoriously narrow like all of Thursday shit, as well as them being Thursdays. I'd rather put my money on Bakers if I had to, and even so I might not entirely.

Not a boot but I just received pic related from TLB (I'm >>17111808) and although it's too dark to take photos now I've been looking at it for a while now and the finishing looks absolutely perfect to my eyes, I've never seen stitching like this before. It's flawless.

Only very minor "issue" is that the heel doesn't sit as tight on the heel block as my Carminas, but it's a very tiny difference and still way tighter than any other shoe I've ever seen.

The fit is extremely comfy out of the box, but I'll need to wear them at work for a few days to really know.

>> No.17111930

Also one other minor issue, the shoelace holes don't have metal rings on the inside like my Carminas, it's just a bare hole in the leather on both sides. So I'm gonna be a bit careful with the laces.

It is handwelting, but in a deeply inferior way.
What he is doing is called "stitch aloft", in which you stitch staight into the insole without carving out any channel, feather.
Furthermore, he is doing lockstitch instead of saddlestitch.

Cobblers that rewelt all do lockstitch, all factory shoes are welted with chain stitch.

Shoemakers (cordwainer) that make shoes using traditional hand welted methods use saddle stitch. Lock stitch is not as tight nor can it drawn in several layers of leather as good as saddle stitch. You need to see a real shoemaker.

That part is literally just a filler. Anyone who shills which filler is better is trying to distract you from things that are actually important.

Comfort and molding come mostly from the insole. Filler exists because there is always a void (either significant or little depend on the construction). Some filler has desirable qualities that make sense to put in, but otherwise don't affect the shoes too much.

Leather filler can squeak if not properly fitted in, make the shoes more heavy, do not insulate as well as cork.

>mold in to your foot better
It's a meme, neither cork filler nor leather filler mold. Leather filler just get depressed when the insole is pressed down.
