I dunno anon. It's been around for some time now and people don't seem to complain about it.
I've had an Aqua Terra for a year, I sold it recently and didn't. Didn't have any problem with it, it was pretty accurate (-2/+2s per day on average).
I don't miss it though. Soulless watch if you ask me.

One of the Theo and Harris guys voiced what I've always thought about Rolex vs. Omega, that Rolex will always be more desirable because of its logo. A crown on your wrist > an omega on your wrist. Plus, "Rolex" just sounds better than "Omega".
Besides, Omega just has icky design aesthetics.

Maybe that's one part of the appeal for Rolex. But to me you also have to take these elements in consideration
>Omega belongs to the Swatch group, while Rolex is independant
>Omega is sponsoring the Olympics, while Rolex is sponsoring more classy sports like the ATP Tour or the Formula One championship
>Omega changes its designs every decade, while Rolex modernize its classic designs
>Omega is trying to be all over the place (sports watch, dress watch, tourbillon...) while Rolex only does tool watches (with the exception of the Cellini)
>Omega's marketing is very aggressive (the Moonwatch being milked to death, the Swatch collab, that whole Snoopie thing, celebrities being to wear them, etc), while Rolex is more low key

I'm thinking a little bit into the future and once i made it, I'm going for the yachtmaster 37 rosegold on the rubber strap. But one question, these rubber straps can't last forever right? Is there a precedent for how long they stay flexible and not starting tearing?

This is a pretty unpopular opinion, but I don't think there is anything good in that price point. The Aqua Terra might be the best option, but I find it soulless and boring. It's the watch you buy because it's the best there is, not because you like it.
If I had this budget, I'd consider these 4 options
>buy something much much cheaper that offers good value for its price (Baltic, Serica, Tissot, etc)
>buy a cool vintage from JLC, Omega or even Rolex
>save a lot more (around 7/8k) and buy a Rolex, a 2010s JLC, a second hand Chopard, Zenith or something high quality you probably havent consider yet

I agree with you, it's a kind of no man's land for watches. I feel like a lot of the watches are just a hybrid between a fashion watch and something more refined, because, well, some of the brands in that price range are/used to be reputable watch brands.

But what it is, is basically just a marketing gag. There’s a reason why other manufacturers had no interest in it. It’s useless. You might need less services but when you do need one, it’s more complicated, more expensive and easier to fuck up. It’s also not a horological achievement or anything like that.
Omega did it so they can woo clueless customers and they won’t service it at independent watchmakers as well.

He’s absolutely right actually. Modern Omega is pretty bad. Especially their extremely low-class passive-aggressive marketing obviously aimed at low-class passive-aggressive people.
And then there’s the constant milking of their watches.
Rolex literally just exists and does a few sponsorships and shoots with a few celebs while Omega is the cuck who needs to pay film studios to make tasteless cracks at Rolex because they can’t get their act together.
I really like their vintage models though. Especially the „cheap“ ones like the Geneve (not the 60s dress watch but the 70s versions). They had some cool, daring designs for that time period and some even look modern now. Movements and everything were good quality as well but the cases were a bit crude.

Would a 44mm case be too large for a 6.1 inch wrist?
Been eyeing a citizen promaster, but the newer ones are a little bit bigger; I'm unsure about pulling the trigger.
(I regularly use a Garmin that's 42mm, but it's lug to lug is quite short).

What I found hilariously bad was that one line in some bond movie where he referred to the watch. They’re so short-sighted that they pay millions to cater to stupid irrational consumers, not realizing this is exactly why they’re still left behind.
Same sad story with Nomos. Why did they bring politics into this? It’s a watch. Let the design, quality etc.. speak for itself.

No. Did I say that?
But I am well aware that the only reason I prefer a Rolex over something of similar quality without a brand name is influence on others on my psyche.
And I’m well aware that a GS/Omega/whatever owner doesn’t hate Rolex because it’s objectively bad, but only to comfort himself of having bought the right inherently worthless consumer item.

Why do you think you like them?

I want a chronosport sea quartz more than any Rolex. You think I only want it because someone will realize I have some uber rare collectible from a cheesy 80s show? You're a fucking retard who confuses his basic knowledge of a small bit of philosophy for wisdom.

They are *generally* worthless trinkets, but that's what's so fun about them. The technology, skill, and artistry I get to look at all the time in a very ugly world. If someone notices my wrist watch, that's nice, but it's just a piece of the package. It reads like you've made it into the whole package.

>consumer items are just that and basically worthless. There is no real difference between a Rolex and an Omega because if not for man-made ideology and Bernays-esque marketing, you’d wear a Casio.

But I do wear a casio and I want a Rolex because I like the design and I likebauthentic items, I'm more likely than not going to tell anyone that asks that it's a fake. You're really not as smart as you think and your understanding of people is clearly very limited, though if you continue on your quest for knowledge you will in time realize just how little you actually know and understand, and will cringe when you recall how you were now.

You genuinely think you like wristwatches because of their intricacies and technical features?
Tell me: what’s your favorite watch with your favorite complication. How does it work? Is watchmaking a hobby of yours? Have you ever worked on a watch?

Packing up your consumerist habits in a neat package and telling yourself you’re doing it for the object itself is just another form of confirmation bias and pattern recognition.
Why do you think most people buy Ferraris? Because engines/cars are their genuine hobby? Because they’re all race drivers? Why are the most successful fashion brands the overly tacky ones and not the ones with the best quality?
And the best thing is: not a single soul buying these items will openly tell you they’re doing it for clout. They will all reply just like you did.

Watchmaking is not my hobby and I don't think watches are a hobby either. I do believe if you enjoy something like a hobby, it will cost you money. I've changed a battery and polished a case. It's not appropriate to conflate my very modest watches with buying a Ferrari. I'm not denying any consumerist behavior, but I am writing to you and telling you that yes, people really don't exclusively pick watches based on what society thinks of them. It is possible to actually like the "unpopular" choice, and not have diseased Rolex brain. You have all this subjective criteria you made up in order to be some purist in your own mind bro. It's just really you that buy these things for clout, your inability to think past ROLEX or any of that. It's really sad you won't let yourself enjoy something pretty because you're so mixed up. Casio fans are so sad.

I do not plan on buying, nor do I own a Rolex or a Casio. I’ve used Casio as an example in one post and Rolex in two posts.
And stop assuming that my argument ever incorporated „exclusively“.
I’m not going to cater to your need of making it easier to justify your own actions against yourself.
Your whole post is an array of senseless arguments against claims I have never made but they’re easier to attack.
The only valid sentence of your post is the one with „unpopular choice“. What do you think is the unpopular choice? Because I can already tell you it’s not really the unpopular choice.

Lol you think you understand everything there is about human psychology after reading one philosopher. Have you tried reading a opposing point of view? Clearly you're somewhat intelligent so how can you be so stupid as to think that the few philosophies you've read is the only truth there is? And your asking for proof for something for which proof can not be provided, just like how proof for your point of view can't be provided, just theories that apply to some people. You're like a kid who read Plato once and thinks he know all there is to life.
