Fin is harmless but if you're not noticing anything at all with your hairline or more hairloss than usual or differences in hair thickness why would you even bother? My derm gave it to me easy but she did ask me a lot of questions and took a look at my hair, I was also pushing 30 at the time.

Definitely get on it ASAP when you notice thinning but I would take it easy until then bro, relax you're only 18

At 18 I remember I was looking at my skin to see if I was getting wrinkles, lol, just now at 26 I'm starting a skin care regiment, don't take stuff you don't need, although you must have to check your hair every 2 weeks for possible balding signs in which case you hop on fin and forget about it, minox can affect the appearance of your skin specially if it comes in contact with it aka you put on way too much and it leaks onto your face so it's best to only use fin, also when checking your hair for any possible miniaturization you must always do it while having dry hair if you do it with wet hair you might think you are balding when youa re not.

OP if you have bald family members I suggest you get a finasteride prescription once you're confident you've finished puberty. Some people end their development later than others and you don't want to cut off any possible development like >>17077663 said. Minoxidil does nothing to really prevent balding-it's for regaining lost ground so you probably don't need it.
