Why is the NH35/4R35 such a reliable and consistent workhorse movement? Every single watch I have with that movement in it has near identical power reserve and keeps +/- 5 sec/day. I expect more variance, especially with all the reports of people getting some wild time variance on theirs. No matter how shitty and unknown the company producing the watch, if it has an NH35 it performs lights out for me. Maybe I'm just lucky? there is a serious lack of widely available supply for small handwind movement

Watches are a terrible investment. Putting the money into VTI, SPY or equivalent is the better play. Rolexes have been increasing in value due to their corpo fuckery, maybe if you can snag a Philippe Dufour, George Daniels or piece of actual history like a Breguet made by the man himself, that’s an “investment” in what will be a genuine antique, but in general watches don’t hold their value for shit. It’s just a fun hobby and enjoyable piece of functional jewelry.

most chinese aliexpress brands make stuff that would be 2-10x their price had it been from a major watch brand.
the same is true for most entry microbrands, but to a lesser extent.

what you get with value, you lose it in originality, as many of the watches above are very near homages (not that major watch brands dont do homages...but still)
also they save lots of R&D cost because they use 3rd party movements.
but just like the homage topic, many major brands used, and still do use 3rd party movements. So what is the exact difference?

why should a no-heritage swiss company like B&R have the gall to sell an uninspired SW powered watch for $2000, when a San Martin with even better machining with almost the same movement only sell it at $500?

That is also on my radar, but I'm not a big fan of the large outer bezel. Same thing is on the GMT, but not as pronounced, but it does have the second and third time function to offset it. The Yacht Master does not, and I believe it's the most expensive.

If I didn't have to choose I'd get a GMT, Datejust with jubilee and fluted bezel and then an Explorer. Each for a different occasion and style.

for non dark skinned folk a black watch will be more conspicuous. Like.. just try on a black gshock, it sticks out on pale skin. But a viewer upon seeing a steel watch on the same skin just expects it (oh, he wears a watch, whatever...) and will memory-hole it soon enough.

otherwise, yes.

Do not pay the retard tax for the GMT. Buy an Explorer 1 if you can find it near retail. If not don’t bother. Rolex makes good watches but not 30%+ over MSRP good. Don’t overpay for an Explorer 2 either. I like the watch but they were available for around $5k for a decade, which is a fair price. The fact that they’re on Chrono24 between $8k and $12k now is laughable.

If you’re unable to find anything reasonable, and you probably will be, just buy JLC. Better movements, better finishing, actual creative designs (as opposed to bloating their case diameters and adding a jubilee bracelet) and you don’t have to deal with Luddite ADs and boomer retards who “know what they got.”

No, that escarpment time watch is the only one on ali with heat blued hands.
They do have a quartz king seiko homage that you can get with a heat blued seconds hand, that's about as close as you will get.

You should also check out the lobini store, they have some cool stuff like this $200 micro rotor dress watch.
