>Used by bombardier airplanes operator during WWII, the present Universal Genève timekeeping tool is an exotic and rare find. The crown operates the start/reverse/reset functions. The button stops the hand in its track. The hand makes one revolution of the dial every 30 seconds. The luminous numerals indicate the distance travelled by a dropped bomb in hm (hectometer: 100 meters). The operator, knowing the launch altitude, would set the arrow at the corresponding distance. Then, he would use the crown to start the timer, and press the button once the hand reached the desired distance to stop it. When the bomb is dropped, one more push on the crown would set the hand in motion counterclockwise, thus starting the countdown to the moment the bomb would reach the ground. At this point, another push on the button would stop the timer, and a last activation of the crown would reset the hand.

I quite enjoy GS's designs too and price point doesn't really apply to that so that's mostly subjective as you said outside of raw material cost

it would be really cool to have diamond hour indicators I think

With the regular GS movements you could find better (hand) finished movements, but not likely to be more accurate unless it's quartz. Then there are the spring drive movements done by the micro art studio which has anglage only equaled by dufour (since he taught them how to do anglage like he does in the first place).

>>yeah really just in terms of movement finishing. objective accuracy and smoothness.
Movement finishing is done better on some 100k watches. Personally, I find movement finishing utterly meaningless, Seiko's dial and case finishing is far more important.

Objective accuracy? That's beaten at either the 20 dollar mark with radio or the 200 dollar mark with HAQ, spring drives are only accurate to 15 seconds a month, which is typical of quartz.

I don't know what you mean by "smoothness", but if you're talking about the second hand, nothing else on the market even comes close, and the only thing that came vaguely close is a dead technology you can see in >>15934282.

I think faceted diamonds would just look really slick. Maybe with small sapphires for second indicators.
I recently visited the workplace of a jeweler who has a consignment with Cartier and it really lit up my interest in applying precious gems to dial finishing.

Autistic contrarianism combined with complex coping mechanisms in order to make themselves feel better about only owning shitters.

Case in point a few days ago a guy was bitching about the Speedmaster calling it dull, uninspired, and overpriced. After informing him that the massive price hike is recent and they were available for up to 40% off MSRP for years, he suddenly changed his tune and said he would buy one if he could afford it at the cheaper price. They are creeping up in El Primero territory with the recent price hike and it's not really justified.

It used to be an amazing deal. A manually wound chronograph that's flight qualified by NASA. It's a watch for a watch nerd and space/science/tech nerd. It killed 2 birds with one stone.

With the price hike, people are going to be looking at it as a status symbol rather than something cool. Hence, the picture of a Speedy in a Tesla.

minimalism = / = bauhaus but its close enough that badly done minimalist watches latch onto it and ruin the bauhaus appeal. Its not just fashion brands either. There are ugly minimalist watches from brands that /wt/ would otherwise buy.

>The watch is designed without a bezel and has rather large dial opening. Considering the case diameter is only 40mm, this makes the watch appear much larger on the wrist than the dimensions would otherwise suggest. As you will see in the wrist shots towards the end of the review, the watch has a very nice wrist presence.
>I feel that the Daniel Wellington Classic York is a pretty cool watch. I especially like the casual look it gives when the nylon strap is installed! For its $229 pricetag, I was pleased with the finishing of the watch and impressed with the company’s execution of their Bauhaus inspired design. The watch is well thought out, has elegant lines and clean layout, which provide the watch with a great look on the wrist as well as an updated, modern feel.

Decided to change that this summer by making this watch my everday watch. Absolutely love the simple, timeless (oh the irony) look of the dial. To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about the size of this watch when I was doing my research online as it seemed that a 38mm-40mm dial would fit me better. After trying it on at a Tissot boutique, though, I couldn't have been happier with the fit. In fact, I kind of like the fact that it sits a little big on my wrist. Nevertheless, its the perfect complement to almost any outfit. Been wearing this around town for a week now and I couldn't be more pleased with it. GS has great finnishing, but there are numerous macro shots of its dial across the web, with most of them looking much more ordinary.
