Not him, i think the advantage that ling island watch has it that he knows exactly what is in demand and makes it. Of course that means he is making watches to fit a checklist of styles and features desired by low budget watch collectors, But he does a decent job of it. That does mean there are no really unique designs and his watches range from blatant copies to arguably tasteful homages.

Could use some help here, I usually go with a square vintage Baume & Mercier (similar to picrel but wholly yellow gold) for informal occasions and a vintage round Vacheron Constantin (yellow gold on white background, looks like a modern Patrimony) for pretty much everything else.
I don't need (nor like) chronographs but I've been told to "ease off", I have no idea what to wear. I feel naked without a watch and the only other one I have is more of a scuba-diving computer than a watch, very unsightly.
I mostly wear suits but occasionally polos and jeans too, rarely in bright colours, mostly in the black to dark-earth zone. Any ideas? Oh no metal wristbands please, I hate them.

Question

Most watches with a date function say not to adjust it when the watch reads between 9pm and ~2am. However the watch doesnt indicate am/pm.

Im guessing I adjust the time untill the date wheel rolls over, then advance it 12 hours, so it will be somewhere between 9am and ~2pm, then I can adjust the day/date?

>> No.15915529

It’s grasping at straws. Can’t compete on design, heritage, looks, soul, coolness, etc. so you have to look at the hands at like 25x magnification. Even worse this we can’t even be sure that those photos are actually of a real Omega or Rolex watch so AT BEST it’s anecdotal and at worst it’s a straight up fraud lie

As I said, biggest cope post

Yeah you got it. Let’s say your watch stopped at 8:00. You can’t be sure whether it was 8am or 8pm (potentially in the “danger zone” depending on the movement), so you should turn the date over once and then set the time to the proper current time. >oesn’t servicing kill collectors’ value of watches since they replace parts and polish the watch and shit?

replacing of needed internal parts is fine
replacing crystal is fine but only if 100% necessary
replacing lume affects value
touchup of dial affects value
polishing wrecks value
replacing hands wrecks value
painting the dial destroys value

if im going to buy a vintage watch I want it to be 100% WABI SABI

i mean...you cant enjoy the PATINA if the crystal is all scratched to shit, right?

but it depends
if you have those vintage watches with faceted crystals its not possible to polish them/ high chance of ruining it and buyers 100% expect scratches on them anyway
another route would be replacement of the crystal but also keeping the original one
basically sellers want the watch to be as untouched as possible with as many parts as *possible* (box, papers, bracelet, even strap) and they themselves make the decision on what to restore with their own trusted watchmaker

I own two Omegas and a Tudor and yet this is my favourite watch. I was thrown in free with the full lume version and was fucked as the second hand was hardly moving and it was dusty on the inside.
I’ve replaced the movement with a brand new one and now I love it the most. Repairing it has made me more attached. I recommend trying this if you find yourself unable to connect with any watches.

>So what is the 6270? It's arguably the most expensive Daytona ever made by Rolex. It is solid 18k yellow gold, the dial is pavé diamond-set, the numerals are sapphires, the bezel is set with baguette diamonds, and oh, the sub-registers? Yeah, they're purple! Only eight pieces were produced, all for his Majesty Qaboos Bin Said of Oman, and the last time one came up for sale, it brought about a milly.

>There were only eight of these watches produced, and the market knows where five of them are. Two of them, of course, are right here. Now this watch is not for everyone, certainly, but these 1980s watches are very special no matter how you look at that.

>They are absolutely the type of watch that you would imagine being commissioned by the Omani royal family, and to Alfredo, they far surpass the steel watches made for Oman in terms of style and importance. Look at that dial!

Ok /wt/, what is THE BEST modern Omega Sneedmaster reference? With so many variants and limited editions there are a lot to choose from.

My pick: the 50th anniversary Silver Snoopy edition. My reasoning (in no particular order):
>blue panda-ish dial
>sapphire crystal with no “white halo” effect
>ceramic bezel insert
>beautiful solid silver dial; will develop a pretty patina with time
>stepped dial effect
>dot over 90
>applied logo and indices
>gorgeous dial typography; perfectly proportioned Omega marquee with the words “Speedmaster” and “professional”; best sub-dial font
>laser ablated Snoopy; doesn’t take itself too seriously
>perfect case back. Some people might call it a gimmick but I think it’s so creative and genuinely awe inspiring, much more so than a display case back
>master chronometer certified movement
>co-axial escapement
>unique case shape that is different from every other Speedmaster; makes it special
>amazing history that represents perhaps the greatest ever real-world achievement for a mechanical watch

Not a watch but the nixie tube clock I was asking you guys about a couple months ago showed up from Ukraine today. Pictures don't do that tube glow justice.

Obviously allowed. Can't smuggle data on them. DOD does not fuck around with opsec. Accidentally brought my phone to one of the job sites once and when it started ringing you would have thought I had an IED strapped to my chest the way they reacted.

Wow, that looks very nice. Does it have an alarm or just a clock? How do you set it?

It's just a clock, there's three buttons on the back, along with the power port. It does a cool slot machine effect at minute change to help prevent cathode poisoning too.

You mean it cycles through everything? That's really neat if so.

Most "haute horology" brands have been debasing themselves for decades by making tasteless garbage for rich arabs and more recently gaudy zodiac trash for rich chinks.

You can commission them to make you anything you want.
This was always the case, stop being salty.

The way major "hh" brands debase themselves is by putting oversized, flashy, "iced-out" nog bling into their regular production lines.
Both AP and PP do it, but not VC.

They have a different sense of aesthetics, but instead of investing on brands from their own culture, who should know about said aesthetics, they resort to Europeans who, while skilled, can only apply their tastes to a design that has European sensibilities in mind, thus, clashing

It looks like it's a better Datejust homage. The Islander honestly looks like a hacked up SARB case and the logo looks like a 5 year old made it in MS paint. I like the rolex style case profile of the Traska.
