Depends on the shoes and how much you care. If they're dress shoes you should try and keep the creasing to a minimum with shoe trees. For sneakers, boots, and casual shoes it's more of an opinion thing. Leather will crease at stress points no matter what but you can minimize it with trees and conditioners if it bothers you.

Not with converse, obviously. You need boots to make boot cut jeans look alright. For some really nice boots that are minmaxing affordability/quality I'd recommend Tecovas, I did an absolutely autistic amount of research about this and those are an excellent initial purchase for boots that you won't regret. I'll braindump some boot info for you just as lagniappe.

Western boots come in many different styles with different sizes of heel. A "walking" boot will have a shorter heel roughly the same height as redwings/docs, while a "riding" boot will have a much larger heel. The heels make you taller, but larger heels make much more noise when you walk and are uncomfortable for like 6+ hours of wear. The bottom of boots like Tecovas are also leather, so they can be *extremely* slippery on materials like carpet. They are much better suited for outdoor wear, but indoors isn't that bad on stuff like tile or after you've really worn them in.

Nicer boots can also double as dress shoes if you invest in some boot polish. I've cleaned up a black pair of caiman boots that I have and worn them with a tuxedo and even to white-tie events (tuxedos with tails for mardi gras).

If you're looking for cheaper or "beater" boots with a steel toe or rubber soles, Ariat is the way to go. People shit on Ariat because it's a discount brand but their price/quality equation is unmatched on their end of the price scale, and if you're actually doing shit that might damage your boots you don't want a nicer pair.

If you want higher quality than Tecova at a much higher price you can start looking at Lucchese. The difference in quality is noticeable but not by enough to justify the 200-300 dollar price difference IMO, but I was gifted my pair of Lucchese from a retired physician and didn't actually pay for them myself.
