Here in Benelux Sauvage is basically the fragrance of choice of 50-60yo men and minorities. If you go to uni and your parents are middle class it's quite tacky choice.

Its a small sample of the 2020 year, which from what I understand is the same as the previous few years just a different bottle. First time smelling anything from the Dior Homme line, i'm pretty new. I though I liked iris, something about the smell when first sprayed is really odd to me. I see there is a pear note somewhere and it might be that, like a dry chalky fruit.

Thanks. I’ve tried a few.
Prada Luna Rossa Sport, Burberry Brit, Invictus, Bottega Venetta.....
I like some, if not most of them but Bottega Veneta smells too „woody“ and, for the lack of a better word, too old.
Luna Rossa Sport smells too much like cherry/vanilla, Invictus smells too young...
Brit is probably the closest to what I want I guess.
Budget isn’t really that important but I don’t want to blind buy...

I bought a partial bottle of Hiram Green - Moon Bloom for a friend of mine's birthday, and I was surprised to see this on the back. I was under the impression that all natural perfumes were exclusively essential oils, absolutes, extractions, etc. What does it mean when an ingredient has a natural origin rather than synthetic? Even Ambroxan has a natural origin. Not only is Ambroxan a large component of real Ambergris, it is somehow obtained using the Clary sage plant. Does that mean islts naturally obtained? None of this has any bearing on the perfume because I think it's fantastic, I'm just curious about what constitutes a natural vs synthetic.

Newfag to fragrance here

How many fragrances should I own, I hear people talking about certain fragrances that would feel out of place in the winter or out of place in the summer, or saying stuff like "this fragrance is really suited to the day and not so much something you would wear at night". On top of that there's apparently fragrances that aren't really appropriate in a more formal setting.

I would like to have as few fragrances as possible that I consider my signature scents. How many fragrances do you think one should own to have enough versatility for all seasons, times of day, or occasions (family gathering, church, work, date, night out at fancy restaurant or a movie theater or just out & about) with as few fragrances as possible and not compromising on your own tastes?

Bare minimum, 1 fragrance - an all season, fresh and clean scent is already amazing.

Beyond that, you might just want 2 season fragrances: 1 hot, and 1 cold weather. A hot scent could be fresh and clean citrus based, and cold could be a gourmand - y type fragrance that gives a 'cozy delicious' feeling.

Beyond that, as long as you're not wearing eros to a business meeting, it really doesn't matter.

Got my decant of TFCA. Was expecting something unique given that I bought it due to interesting looking notes like driftwood, seaweed, celery seeds, myrtle, juniper but the opening is straight-up a blue mens shower-gels smell all around. I got decants of the feminine scents that LT awarded 5/5 and been testing them on my girlfriend as a lab-rabbit since the morning. Hermes Twilly is probably the best tuberose scent I tried but not really my cup of coffee but now that we applied Guerlain Pamplelune we're both in love. It has this big grapefruit opening that is hard to forget. As far as I understand it's impossible to extract smell from grapefruits naturally as its esters are very unstable so the grapefruit accord must be recreated from its pieces one by one by other means. Having this in mind Pamplelune is even more impressive as a showcase of Laurent's technical and artistic skills. You get here grapefruit with all of its candy, bitter, citric and sour nuances. It leans a bit towards a feminine scent but it is nevertheless the most convincing grapefruit accord I've tried. This opening gives way to some more aromatic green notes that I'm curious about and their development over time.

After a darker, synthetic middle the drydown about 5h in turned out to be a feeble woody-smoky smell (quite a good performance for a blue Private Bland nevertheless). Overall I can't shake the thought that it is a fragrance for lads from pic related going on a 'posh' vacations to French Riviera. Calling their mates back in Leeds all excited when they figure out that they have an all-inclusive bar in their hotel and posting blurry photos on Instagram from nights out chasing birds in random nightclubs they were let in but to be frank that's the audience I always imagine in my head as the target for TF Private Blend. To sum up it's a safe, synthetic (not necessary in a bad way) shower-gely designer fragrance that would work if you are looking for some aquatic with minimal edge. But to be completely honest with you I recently tested quite a few solid niche aquatics and I don't really remember well other aquatic designer staple fragrances like Bulgaris to make a fair comparison here. For Private Blend prices it's absolutely not worth it though, but might make sense to get a Signature bottle if you end up liking

Thanks for your clarification on the Moon Bloom, I wonder how they decided which compounds/chemicals need to be shown on the label, I'm sure there are hundreds or thousands more in the perfume, at least in very low amounts. As far as the Feu Secret goes, it got a little more generic as time went on in my opinion. I think the turmeric is what made the opening interesting, and I guess that note dies off quickly. Still a decent perfume but I don't think it's worth 4 dollars/ml. So far I've tried that one, Ummagumma, Corpse Reviver, Lampblack, Vetiverissimo, and I have a sample of Unsettled that I haven't tried yet. I must have been drunk while ordering samples because I wouldn't normally have ordered Feu Secret or Unsettled. I still have to do a few more tries of each but I think I will definitely end up ordering Ummagumma and possibly ordering Vetiverissimo. >>15898933

What's your favorite perfume review? This one is mine:

>How often does a perfume make you giggle uncontrollably? Stetson, bottled since 1981, is plainly for men. The box is a sober, manly box in two stony, manly colors. There are pictures of manly cowboys lassoing (manly) horses. The manly promo copy on the manly back says “The legendary fragrance of the American West. A rich, masculine blend of rugged woods and spice.”

>Well, shine my spurs, this is a masculine? I could’ve sworn it was a crisp, classical feminine oriental in the style of Tabu and Youth Dew, with that classic Coca-Cola brightness, an animalic jasmine to fill it out, and powdery, leathery balsamic woods to finish: an old-fashioned structure that still works a treat. It’s gorgeous, as rugged and masculine as the lingerie level at Saks Fifth Avenue, and about ten bucks per ounce. I’d truly love a man who wore this, but in the absence of one, I’ll gladly wear it myself.

Top notes are Sage, Bergamot, Cardamom, Mandarin Orange and Lemon; middle notes are Carnation, Patchouli, Cedar, Basil, Orris Root and Jasmine; base notes are Leather, Oakmoss, Styrax, Vetiver, Amber, Vanilla and Coconut.

Bel Ami: a reference to Guy de Maupassant's famous novel, Bel Ami celebrates leather in its most authentic expression. The chypre extract, conceived by Jean-Louis Sieuzac in 1986, interprets the material with as much opulence as character, in a register of surprising sensuality

I went through a 5ml decant of Tuxedo and owned Moustache for couple weeks before I sold it back and no, not really. I'd assume that you're just a salty Tuxedo owner because some people found a 'clone' that they like as much but you agreed with me that they're not really similar in the first place.

>Bel-Ami (Hermès) leather citrus$$

>The original Bel-Ami (1986) was bold, strange, beautiful, and a resounding commercial flop. Taking advantage, one assumes, of some arcane European Union restrictions on aromachemicals, Hermès has reformulated it while hotly denying any change (of course). The new version is much woodier up top, with a coriander note that bears the handwriting of in-house perfumer Jean-Claude Elléna. Gone is the weird, dissonant, citrus-and-leather accord that made the original so attractively irresolute. The drydown now veers toward the musky sweetness of Caron’s No. 3. The overall effect is very good and, for those who never met the original, completely convincing. Shame, though. LT

what makes me angry is people like you that claim something is an option, a direct replacement for another scent when they smell very different indeed. Moustache has its toes firmly in gourmand territory, and is no replacement for the original. I wouldnt mind the $25 or whatever it goes for, or should go for, it were in fact a clone, but its not. The only thing going for it is price, thats all everyone mentions, I'm not worried about price, but rather the scent.

Original guy who started this conversation here, I'm about 40 minutes in to my try of Tuxedo. It definitely diverges past the opening like you said, it smells much more mature and higher quality, but to be fair it does still share quite a bit with Moustache.

I don't see the point in wearing a perfume that's 70% as good as the real thing. I'd rather pay 175 for 75ml of Tuxedo than 35 for 125ml of Moustache, and I think it usually sells for more than that (I bought Moustache for 35 and then gave it away to my brother because unironically in my opinion it smelled too young for me (28).

Hookerfag here. I pretty much started the Tuxedo thing here, and I own both Tuxedo and Moustache. I do not consider them clones. Opening is similar, then they diverge quite a bit. Moustache is snice enough for what it is, but I agree that it’s less mature and is nowhere near the quality of Tuxedo (which is one of my go-tos). I do think it’s bad advice to offer Moustache as a substitute for Tuxedo, they’re pretty different things. Tuxedo’s big selling point to me is its buttery smoothness and Moustache doesn’t have that.

Just figured I’d chime in since I’m kind of a well-known Tuxedo shill.

Every day people need to decide between what’s right and what’s wrong. Sometimes telling between right and wrong is very obvious, other times it’s more difficult to discern what’s right and what’s wrong. When youre young, your parents typically have a set of family rules you must abide by, hopefully based on biblical principals set forth by god. God has given us the Bible to be able to understand his will for us, and to be able to discern right from wrong. In addition to the Bible, once you are saved, you have the Holy Spirit to serve as your counselor to help and guide you, and to become wise. When I like or dislike a perfume, it through the will of god and the Holy Spirit I make my decision if it is right or wrong for me. Those that are not picky and like everything in the fragrance world lack a moral compass, I think, a "everything goes" attitude. Civilizational collapse is the only outcome from this attitude. I pray that you will find God and repent of your wickedness, and learn some discernment in life.

To start off there are not many good coffee scents around in the first place - most of them just pretend to be coffee by achieving this note by other means. The side effect of it is that their 'coffee' accord is very often too heavy on tonka bean and they try to hide it by adding some vanillic and sweet notes to make it seem like it was supposed to smell this way from the beginning. Hence most of coffee scents have rather a 'latte with a sweet-syrup' accord (Terra Mia, Kerosene Follow, Black Phantom etc) not simply coffee and thus don't strike me as particularly manly. The best manly masculine frag I tried is Shihan (called also Sensei) from Piotr Czarnecki that this anon mentioned >>15894738
