Can someone redpill me on leather jackets?
What makes a quality leather jacket?
Why do some people obsess over them and spend $2500 and collect several jackets?

>> No.15863258

don’t buy a leather jacket unless you’re attractive

How do I know if I'm attractive without getting my face logged into a jewish database of known basket weaving forum posters?

incels are incapable of being fashionable, which is what a leather jacket should be. Even if you have the clothes, their personalities are so bottom of the barrel that nobody will take them seriously

Wear a leather jacket if you want to, dude. Ignore 4chanian shitposters.
Just make sure it's a good jacket built from good materials, stay away from department store leather.

You can say that about all clothing. Fashion is really only for attractive people.

>red pill
it has excellent abrasion resistance and it's good at stopping wind. people that need rugged clothing for harsh conditions have always gravitated to leather. people like pilots, motorcyclists and farmers.
>quality jacket
you want full or top grain leather. don't get that shitty "genuine leather" garbage. those are made with the equivalent of the outer leaves on a cabbage.
you also have to wear it in. get a few stains and scuff it up a bit. there's nothing gayer that a jacket that looks like it's made from latex.
>why do people obsess over them
same reason people pay $200 for a [BRAND] t-shirt i guess. but at least a good jacket can last decades.

>> No.15868189

The leather is what determines the quality, naturally. However, some people get suckered into overpaying for a leather jacket due to it having a name attached.

ironically you want top grain leather. the cheaper the leather the more like plastic it gets.

It's simple:
>redpill
Leather is the best protector against wind, but it doesn't retain heat. A lined leather jacket is required if it's cold. They best looking leather jackets are ones that fit like a second skin to the owner. Loose leather looks horrible unless it's supported. Finally, leather will last a lifetime if you care for it, so if you only want to spend once, then it's the way to go. It lasts far longer than synthetics.

>quality leather jacket?
Choice of hide, how it's tanned, colour and grain, thickness, suppleness/lack thereof, the cut, the finish, the fit, and finally the hardware (zippers, buttons, and other metal things).
>spend to collect
Because it's a costume; you can change your outfit to suit your personality or where you're going.

I have about 11 at last count, and I love them all and wear them all.

>The key: fit is everything with leather. If it fits badly, you and the jacket look like shit. If it fits well, you look like a million bucks.

I agree leather generally lasts a lifetime. But that doesn’t include lambskin or anything “nappa”.
In the department store they sell all lambskin and that shit barely lasts 2 years.

>it doesn't retain heat
It does.
Depends on the thickness.
And it's not as warm as leather with the fur still on it.
But it is wamer than nylon or polyester which are some of the more popular alternatives.
Jackets need insulation.
Don't write-off leather because "it's not warm"

Protip: Fashion is relative

>> No.15872654

>>15863255
>What makes a quality leather jacket?
Generally the type of leather and the species of animal the hide came from. Full-grain is the best, top-grain is good, anything else is poor. Cowhide, buffalo/bison hide, and horse hide are all good. Calf and sheep hide are ok if you want a softer garment, but not very durable, and lambskin and goat hide are trash.

>Why do some people obsess over them and spend $2500 and collect several jackets?
Same reasons people obsess over and spend money on anything else. Maybe they're on the spectrum, or have a great void in their life.

>> No.15872658
