If there is a watch you really want you should just bite the bullet and buy it, not look for substitutes. Worst case scenario you can just flip it and not lose too much. I think the BB58 is actually the only good watch Tudor makes. It looks very nice, everything about it is just well done. You can't go wrong with it.

Day & date can be found on literally every Seiko5 (+-100), and the sun&moon wheel is just a bit of a meme that looks cool like a moonphase but only rotates every 24h, which isn't very complicated at all. It's also fairly pointless, like 24h subdials. Unless you live underground, you can just look out the fucking window to see if you're in the sun or moon part of the day. And if you lived underground, it wouldn't even matter, so even then it's pointless.

Was just as an indication that even in the 80s (when the seiko5 line was launched) day/date complications were common on inexpensive watches. Many brands will have some offerings at 300 or less, unless they're trying to be fancy about it.

I see your point, but I also see theirs. Seiko (especially their earlier models desu, they try to squeeze punters a bit hard these days) puts many brands to shame when it comes to straight quality and parts. Their lume is unrivalled, especially at that price point, and there's a reason so many microbrands use their movements..

That said, I've never been able to get myself to like the SKX, and there's something wrong with almost every other diver they make. Useful? Sure. But not sexy..

Extremely heavy and thicc for the NH35 it houses, but I fell in love with the Panerai style numerals and nothing else was really available in that configuration in my price point. Im a quartz guy, but the quartzes that use that type of dial have some other dumb addition that I dont care for (Techne, for example).
I would also like if the hands were not polished, like on the V30, being more in line with the Sinn plane instrument aesthetic, but that was before I knew whats what. Also, most of the older Geckotas are unobtainium, seeing as most of their pieces are limited to 70 pieces or some shit.

If you’re looking for a diver, take a look at the “Triton” which absolutely shits on the SKX series, Turtles, and goes neck to neck with the Sumos. You can easily grab one for $250. I don't look for a diver, thanks. I want a dressy watch but can't afford a proper one because I'm still finishing my PhD. I will get a proper one, probably a Cartier Tank for my graduation. I don't know much about Vostok but I like the prices of those watches. I just want a simple Vostok infantry or komandirskie watch that looks like normal western field watch (Timex) but most of the time its one of those typical Vostok dials like previously mentioned 'scuba dude'. oh and all lume on the numerals. but they don't exist or do they?

If you don't want to go down a g shock route, you can definetly get by with a regular quartz watch, you might want to avoid mechanical watches, since dropping them on hard surfaces can potentially damage them, some mechanical watches are tough, most aren't. Anyway, I bounced around phases of liking their models, mostly BB58, then the ETA Black Bays (which i almost got). I pretty much overlooked the smooth bezel Heritage ones until this summer, then I really looked at them a lot and got hooked on their simplicity and execution. The movement is awesome, the dial is just how I like it. I see it as a tool watch, utilitarian, smart looking. Beautiful on bracelet and could do straps too. So after much deliberation and watching Random Rob vids I decided to go for it.

The DW-5600 which is the basic square G-Shock is also the thinnest so if you don't have that already you can get it for $40 new all day every day and if that's what you have and it's getting snagged I would just get an AE1200 which has around the same proportions, but less, and punches way above it's $20 price in functionality. The band on my f-91w broke so I put it on a cheap shitty nato strap I bought online. I tried what I think is the normal way to use a nato strap, where you get the end of the strap sticking out right at the upper side of the watch case, or you have to tuck it in. The AE1200 actually looks stylish because the proportions and case are pretty classic so only the dial is very retro and it's retro in a good way. People wear fucking Hamilton LED watches now because it's "fun." The AE1200 is just as fun and a thousand times more functional.
Once you have it on the wrist it's a much better watch than you'd expect.

47mm lug to lug is small, it's commonly 50mm at minimum for round watches.
And round watches inherently wear bigger than rectangular ones.

Yes, the Monaco wears massive. Have you ever tried a reverso on, the wear very plank like, the should try watches on in person before comment on them. What I'm saving is commonly known. Just go back to your Seikos......
