Today a local niche perfumery got the new Amouage Interlude 53 flanker so I paid them a visit to test it. Small background: I've had two bottles of Interlude in past. One was 'vintage' Oman non-magnetic cap and other magnetic UK cap. I also had a decant of another 'vintage' batch of Interlude. I didn't 'hunt' for vintage batches just happened to get these bottles. In any case I can tell that I'm 100% positive that the batch-wankery around Interlude is entirely made up by internet fragrance community. The differences are negligible. You wouldn't recognize the 'vintage' version from the currently produced one if asked to smell them blindly. The currently produced Interlude still performs like a monster. I also hated the Black Iris flanker but this is another story. Coming back to Interlude 53. Just as I expected this is the least needed release in history. It smells like... Interlude. You don't need it if you own any other regular Interlude bottle. Maybe it's just a bit more vanillic-sweet and resinous but I reckon it's due to increased concentration. I'm guilty of overspraying many fragrances but even for me the regular Interlude one of these fragrances that were too well performing. I'm not a big fan of waiting for 2-3 days and taking a few showers to get rid of the scent fully and that's the case with Interlude when I spray it more than 5 times. It's just too much. Given this I have absolutely no idea who's the target of Interlude 53 as it's 2-3 stronger than the regular Interlude. I sprayed it *once* on my wrist and could smell it constantly despite being outdoors and having my nose covered with a FFP3 face mask. It's ridiculous. I think it's just Amouage being smart and trying to monetize the online batch-wankery.

The second fragrance I tried was Aziyade by Parfum d'Empire. Holy fuck, that's one of the best openings I've ever tried. It's very fruity (I can pick up oranges, plum, some dried fruits) and spicy (matcha, cumin and some sweet spices). Very warm oriental feel. However, I reckon many people will say that it smells of body odor because of the prominent cumin note. It's a weird, polarizing note that people can perceive completely differently - I'm glad to not be one of the people with this kind of associations. It transforms entirely after about 1.5h (that's where I'm now) and the scent becomes much less welcoming. It's strangely metallic and you can start picking up some snarp, cutting incense. I'm really curious how it'll develop further.

The Original Eight & Bob is such a handsome fragrance. It's fresh, masculine, spicy, sweet, slightly aquatic and woody at the same time. A classy choice for someone who wants to wear something elegant but also showing a fun side. However, the pricing is a bit off. It's not really niche just one good smelling fragrance that should be priced closer to designer best-sellers. I also absolutely despise their marketing pseudo-historic bullshit and shit like that
>The main note of EIGHT & BOB is a closely-held secret. The fragrance is based on a rare aromatic plant from Chile. In January 1934 Albert Fouquet traveled to Chile and returned to Paris with several sprigs of a plant he called "Andrea." Andrea is a wild plant in short supply due to the altitude and the limited area where it grows; it can only be picked during the months of December and January. The total plants gathered undergo a very exacting selection process of which only 7% are chosen. This process ends between March and April and it is only then that one knows the how many units of EIGHT & BOB can be bottled.
Yeah, Andrea-my-ass plant. But I guess this kind of stuff + Kennedy and le Good Old Hollywood is their marketing hook to reach their target that seems to be WASP East Coast (upperish) middle class with a golden retriever and wardrobe full of Brooks Brothers. That would also explain why does it cost $185 not $100. These people want to pay extra to feel like they're getting something exclusive.

please help me id this fragrance. it's marketed for men. i vaguely remember a "pour homme" on the bottle. it comes in a black bottle with a hexagon? top, the body might have been a cylinder?

it would have been popular on /fa/ about 5-6 years ago. as far as the scent i'd say it's somewhat woody, from my poor recollection. basically i can barely remember it and it's been bugging the hell out of me for a while. ex had gifted it and there's no way i can ask about it now.

As someone who is starting to get into fragrance, do I just follow the beginners chart at first?
Do I search for a scent group that I like and stick by it? (as it should be my prefered scent)
Is it possible for subtle fragrances to be well performing?
I don't really like intense fragrances because they are too present are there any scent groups that have a nature of being intense?
Also when you go to your local store is it normal to ask for samples, even if it is alot?

So far I've tried Terre d'Hermès and Dior Fahrenheit on my skin and I've got samples of Kouros and Ultra Male
I'm kind of looking for something sweet but subtle, so I guess something with vanille or fruity?

Here are some of my opinions
>I've tried Sauvage but I definetly disliked that one
>Bleu de Chanel edt was fresh but not too sporty, which I liked. I guess an allround good smell
>Ultra Male might be a bit too sweet, but haven't tried it on yet
>I've smelled Allure Homme Sport, which was okay but I liked Bleu de Chanel way better for something fresh
>I felt like Fahrenheit was a little bit too older guy scented (I'm in the beginning of my 20s)
>Terre d'Hermes had a nice scent, but I found it a bit too intense

I want to try on Uono Casual Life and JOOP! Homme soon aswell.

Any suggestions?

You're doing good. The best thing you could do really is just smell a lot of different things and start identifying themes and notes that you enjoy.

I never ask for samples in stores because stores here has become super greedy and basically doesn't give any away. There are some online perfume stores that give away samples though, but you can't order too many
Try joining a local facebook group for decants and buy from people in there, it's usually the best way

Keep trying things in the beginner's chart, there are some that you really must try right now such as Eau Sauvage and Eau Sauvage Parfum.
For sweet but subtle, try Rochas Moustache, Etat Libre d'Orange Fat Electrician, and L'Artisan Parfumeur Tea for Two.

>JOOP! smelled cheap
>Chanel Egoïste smelled like deodorant for me
>I actually quite liked the top note of Fahrenheit
>La Nuit de L'Homme edt was really standing out for me like something I'd like to smell all day (a female friend of mine really agreed aswell)
Does it stay that scent or was that only the top note?
>Dior Homme's scent felt really basic for me
>Acqua di Gio was boring aswell
>Spicebomb was not bad
>Dolce & Gabbana The One felt soapy and I guess that's not really my thing
>Tom Ford's Oud Wood felt really refined and well made, maybe not the scent for me but it was really good

Kinda stuck on which designer scent to blind choose, would appreciate some input. I wouldn't blind buy but for reference my parents are insisting on getting me a gift when I come back for the holidays so I gotta pick something. Initially they said they'd get me Sauvage or whatever I choose. I've tried Sauvage and didn't like it so I have to choose something but I'm not that well versed on designers so have no idea what.

I'm thinking Ombre Leather since its available in store where they'd get it but I haven't smelled it and I'm a bit hesitant. Allure and Bleu seem tempting as a versatile easy scent but I'm unsure if I need it or want it. Fahrenheit was another choice alongside Eau Sauvage but I'm also not sure which I'd prefer, the EDTs or the Parfums. For reference I have tried everything bar Ombre Leather. I enjoyed Fahrenheit the most on initial spray but I tried all of them in airports passing through and didn't get time to develop a strong impression. I hardly remember them to be frank and its basically like choosing blind. I was thinking of sampling them in the future and revisiting but now I've just gotta shoot.

For some reason despite not having tried it I'm leaning Ombre since it seems like the one I'd enjoy the most while simultaneously being the one I'm least likely to buy myself. I don't really have a solid leather scent either. Fahrenheit and Eau Sauvage I'm interested in and will come back to and buy for myself. Bleu and Allure aren't interesting but seem pragmatic and nice to have for a normal inoffensive scent for all occasions. Getting it as a gift does seem better since I'm not likely to buy those myself either. Though for Bleu I'd like to sample the EDT and EDP to choose. For reference I have a fairly tight rotation of Mefisto, Avignon, Kouros, BondNo9.com and Caron Pour un Homme. If there's any other good suggestions I'd like to hear them but I'm leaning Ombre.

When I get samples I spray two sprays on one of the sample paper strips and smell it, but honestly you will only really appreciate them when trying them on your skin. A couple of sprays on inner forarm is good for assessing how long it lasts, typically a scent will last a bit longer on the neck than on inner forarm due to heat.

yeah it's subjective and unless it has very strong coconut smell it should not interfere with your perfumes. 1. Musc Ravaguer; liked the vanilla scent but smelled somehow dry and just not very pleasant. I didnt hate it, but wasn't blown away or anything
2. Tobacco Vanille; smelled like straight up tobacco and vanilla. My gf said it smells like burned marshmallows. I liked it but not as much as some others.
3. Chypre Palatin; reminded me of some novelty store. Was nice but I didn't want to smell like it
4. Invasion Barbare; smelled like a straight up barbershop. Again, nice but don't want to smell like it
5. Jubiliation 25; smelled very close to Chypre Palatin
6. Portrait of a Lady; smelled like roses. Pleasant, but not something I'd want to wear
7. Ambre Sultan; smelled like an old lady. Hated this one
8. Le Labo Santal 33; smelled like a hamster cage

To be clear I also tried some designer stuff which I didn't like. These include Spicebomb and some others.

Damn, you almost got me. For a second I thought that you're maybe really not just trolling/baiting. I'm genuinely curious what's your agenda anon? Do you try to stir some waters just for fun's sake? Or perhaps there is really something wrong with /frag/ that you cannot get over? Do you feel like Aventus/Layton are treated unfairly here and you really like the scents and feel excluded from participating? I sometimes talk shit about them but I can assure you that what we hate about both most is the cringe marketing/making up history/viral marketing through paid social media influencers and the fact that both are overpriced for what they are. I really don't think that Layton is particularly interesting but I had to lie to disagree with the fact that Aventus is not one of the most important fragrances of the 2010-2020 decade (if not the most important). I may hate the smell but it's thanks to it that fruity chypre was reclaimed as a masculine genre whereas before it most people associated it with Mitsuoko that's predominantly feminine. I reckon many other anons agree with that, too. It's 4chan so we're all a bit contrarian here and hate stuff hyped by normies so that's another reason. Or maybe you rather think that sometimes /frag/ is too circlejerky and you talk shit about stuff that's generally accepted as good here to challenge that? You clearly have been to this thread for long enough to know which highly regarded frags here to attack and be aware of the general feeling about Layton/Aventus but I can tell you how did this thread look like before there was a group of semi-regular posters who started carrying these threads in some direction according to their fragrance preferences.

>> No.15778219

>>15778201
80% of posts were completely repetitive and about the same 5 mall-tier fragrances as people were coming in and leaving soon after. Only sometimes there was any worthwhile discussion or anything that would make /frag/ distinguishable from other frag communities (like the Dylan Blue gay meme). Otherwise this general was amorphous and frankly boring for everyone involved. Occasionally someone mentioned some interesting fragrance but any discussion was dying soon after as there was no one to pick up the conversation. Also plenty shitquality shitposting. /frag/ over last three years has become indeed more niche-oriented but the overall quality difference is colossal. There is some genuinely good OC both meme-wise and with actual advice (I genuinely think that both threads in OP posts are one of the most solid resources on internet), there is a group of knowledgeable people who can answer questions or give really accurate recommendations like in the last thread with the guy asking about fragrances smelling like POTC ride or Subway. People discover stuff together like with the recent Bianchi posting which is a super comfy thing to do. Newbies are also welcomed and their questions get answered honestly if they're not idiots or just trolling. It's gay as hell to write all that but that's really the only thread I still come to 4chan to. I wouldn't be surprised if these were precisely the reasons why you hate the thread as 4chan overall is really chaotic and people seem to hate any circlejerking but hopefully you can just tell honestly what's wrong.

All of us would agree that Chanel is one of the most important men's fragrance houses of all time. How could anyone deny this self-evident truth? They have dozens of ground-breaking, genre-defining... well, they really only have *five* true, distinct men's scents. But certainly all of their releases have been titans of the industry, peerless in composition and artistic vision, and defined the trends of men's fragrance for decades afterward, right?

Right?

It seems blasphemous to say but the history of men's scent can be faithfully written without bearing mention to the house of Coco Chanel or the work of Jacques Polge. Compile a list in your head of the ten most "important" men's scents ever composed. What would hold a spot? Pour Un Homme de Caron, the first masculine ever. Drakkar Noir, the scent that defined an entire generation. And what about humble Cool Water, whose ripples are still being felt 30 years hence in every "aquatic" or "ozonic" being released? Make your list, then double it. Triple it. Expand it to 50, then a hundred. See how long it takes you to confidently place a Chanel release over something else that got there first. The fact of the matter is that when it comes to men's fragrance, Chanel doesn't do "important." They don't aim for "historical," or "landmark" or "genre-defining." What Chanel does is high quality, fashionable, artful, and commercial. They do what works, and work it does. Perhaps the Chanel brain trust does not respect the art of men's perfumery for anything more than the dollars it brings in; that seems to be what they're saying with their endless line-up of flankers. Go sift through Chanel's masculine discography, and while you're getting acquainted with every flanker of Allure Homme, keep in mind that the original Allure Homme itself is a brother scent of the original Allure for women, and that Egoiste is a mass market re-release of Bois Noir. See how many real releases you come up with.

>> No.15778642

>>15778640
Pt. 2
This brings us to Antaeus, which is doubtlessly the Chanel most deserving of a place on this hypothetical Canon of masculine perfumes. Its quality of composition is eye-watering, its artistic vision is fully realized, and its scent is sublime. At $97 direct from Chanel themselves (a perk of the brand's fascistic control over its distribution is that you waste no time bargain hunting, plus all that pretty packaging) Antaeus is one of the best deals in men's accessories. This is likely the best thing you can buy in any upscale department store short of Green Irish Tweed. But...

But but but

It smells very similar to Van Cleef and Arpels Pour Homme, which was released three years prior. It's an aromatic rose bomb with a woody base. It's much smoother than VC&A, more approachable too and has a slight soapy accord in the heart rather than PH's tobacco, which I enjoy. It's classified as a chypre but I think it has enough fougere elements to split the consensus. It's a very, very good composition, and smells to me similar to red wine. When I wear it I just can't get enough of it. I cannot recommend it enough for someone who wants something well made and of a different era.

Were I to raise Antaeus to one of the most important scents ever composed, I would necessarily have to put VC&A ahead of it. Pour Homme got there first, and though I prefer Antaeus it doesn't push the envelope of "80's masculine rose chypre" far enough away to take VC&A's claim. But maybe you don't need your personal fragrance to be minted in historical currency; maybe you just want to smell really, really good. For that, look no further than Antaeus.

You're young and working in a field full of infantilized people with developmental challenges, you will stop seeing things as black and white soon enough (hopefully).

To be fair, some of the people replying to you will be similarly blinkered.

It's funny, 4chan is a window into how people think, and they tend to think that they are an authority on whatever subject they're discussing, regardless of qualification to do so. Jesus, I’m so glad I didn’t decide to become a SoftEng. They’re virtually always this kind of manchildren with no integrity and mental issues. I’m better looking, more intelligent, more successful, better with people than you’ll ever be and gonna wear whatever I want :^)

What is the point of this statement? Does it give you license to be a manchild, because the other guys on 4chan are doing so? Does it validate you?

Yeah my dad works in tech and it seems very stressful desu. Train dispatcher is very nice except for working night and weekends obviously and some days are really heavy, if we have faulty tracks or things like that. But I'm glad I started at the railroad before corona, I've been working exactly like before corona and no one here lost their job or anything lol

We're not talking about the entirety of 4chan, we're talking about you in particular.

Why are you like this? You just called yourself a child, are you happy with that designation? It doesn't matter what 4chan is or what the typical user is supposed to be, it's not 2008, we are not legion and you are an individual.

You should want better for yourself. You're reinforcing your own negative habits by engaging with people the way you are now.

But you’re wrong buddy, I know that you are used to be around manchildren and may think that everyone is one but that’s wrong. You’re just a sad coomer whose taste is dictated by what online influencers say will get you some poossy as you think that there’s nothing notebook important than that because you’ve been deprived of it for all those years. There’s nothing worse than code monkeys that swallowed at some point some self-improvement memes. You all literally treat life like an RPG game where you want to boost your stats. Today I’m going to read Dale Carnage book to improve my charisma and tomorrow find the MOST EFFECTIVE fragrance to boost my attractiveness to females. Your autistic minds are not capable of realising that there’s more to life than this. Things like integrity, self-fulfilment or genuinely following your own likings not those of others are completely over your heads. I don’t like neither Aventus nor Layton but don’t have a problem with someone liking any of these but you my dude are epitome of cringe.

The ONLY reason to buy fragrances is to attract the opposite sex and perhaps as a strategy to get you hired, studying, or other life advancements. If you just like buying obscure shit because its your hobby then get a different hobby, or dont but i feel there should be a disclaimer on the infographics so us normal people don't waste our money and time

You have to remember the kind of person that goes on 4chan. They've been rejected by society, so now they feel compelled to take an "all or nothing" approach and to be bitter about anything popular even though its popular for a reason.

This faggot that keeps saying he doesn't like aventus and Layton is lying. He just doesn't like the people that wear these frags and he doesn't like the people that wear these frags because he can't be them
