this

philly is a dirty, sad, provincial, broken shithole. the "cool parts" are gentrified wannabe-brooklyn zones in fishtown, northern liberties, parts of south philly, all of which suck and are populated by ex-suburbanite IPA-swilling plebsöys. west philly has a lot of nerdy Penn students and further west, lots of gross crust punks that ride fixed gears and live in communal dumps together playing in shitty bands with dirty patched up clothes. my family is from philly, i lived there most of my life, got out and moved to NYC as soon as i could. it's more expensive here but you're surrounded by infinitely more cultured and interesting people.

west and south philly have long histories of being cheap-ass places to have punk houses and squats and shit. you used to be able to get a room in a west philly punk house for like 150/month, and then go on tour all the time. (those neighborhoods are all heavily gentrified now though, thanks punks) it's a dirty, drunk and depressing world. lots of losers, posers and addicts. your meme is pretty accurate.

the elitist industrial post-punks are cooler though.

there are a few good bands, yeah. it's on par with baltimore. but desu i'd rather not live in a depressing shithole just to be part of some obscure scene. that's why i moved to NYC and have never been back to philly since. lel

but hey, if your ambitions in life are to be in a super cool underground blackmetal-crustcore band, then you'd probably find what you're looking for in philly. watch out for junkies and crackheads though, they're everywhere and can be quite belligerent.

I go to Penn and students here are far from nerdy. It's pretty much the ivy league school known for being social and party scene. Also the best business school, Wharton, which makes a lot of kids here typical chad, fratty finance bros. I mean Trump and Elon went here themselves. I'm a huge outcast here because I hate the party scene and stay inside a lot.

Absolutely not.
Music scene is ok. At least it was a few years ago - used to go there for shows but it’s called filthadelphia for a reason.
Rats the size of cats gonna be walking you back to your house/hotel in the middle of the night. They literally have no trash cans in the city.
Homeless people pitched up tents a block away from main events.
I recommend something else. Just about anything else.
It’s fun maybe for a day or 2...but even then so hard to have fun walking around knowing a rat can run by any moment bc they’re so big they give no fucks.
NYC rats look like baby mice compared to those scary fuckers

you're drastically incorrect and your post leads me to believe you haven't stepped foot in Center City or South Street or any major Philadelphia location in the last 10 years. It's been heavily constructed and now its doing really well.

>Rats the size of cats
I live in Philly and have yet to see a single rat outside of the subway. I see a cat here and there.
>Homeless People
Yeah as any major city, there are homeless people. LA literally has homeless cities.
>Rats
I think you're too hyperfocused on the rat part. I think you saw a Rat once and it traumatized you.

Been there numerous times - from the area around the convention center to the Fillmore is just not cute. Seen more than one rat. And I don’t even remember what other parts I’ve been to but I left feeling grimey.
I mean i had fun bc I was there to party. But it’s one of those places where unless it’s NYE and people are everywhere - you just wouldn’t want to walk alone bc you could feel like you could get mugged.
Years ago I was there for an exhibit at the Philadelphia museum of art - I’m talking 15 years ago probably - and that area was chill af...Didn’t see rats but also I wasn’t going to after-shows and walking back at 4AM.

And you’re probably right I’m just traumatized from a few bad experiences.
But desu even my friends that live there call it filthy..

I will say - it’s probably the best surviving Chinatown on east coast...NY is remnants of what it once was.

All I can say is when cities get too big they just end up gettin over saturated and turning into a bunch of BS and just ends up a mess as opposed to something cultural.
I can also tell not all cities have homeless camping on the streets.

Grew up in Fishtown and spent quarantine living in center city taking care of my grandma so let me lay it on the line. I can’t speak about the night life or dating scene or anything like that, but holy shit there is so much fucking construction going on in philly its unreal. I swear its like they founded the city in the 1990s and not the 1690s because how are they not done building anything yet.
Also, saw a lady just taking a piss in the middle of Rittenhouse at 8pm one time. Never saw any rats in center city so I cant really confirm what that one anon was saying. Used to spend time at my uncle’s place in West Philly. He was in a punk band and worked in a food truck. The places he took me too were pretty cool when I was 16. Still wish I went to college in the city.

Cmon you lived there and never saw giant rats?
Do you get out much at night?
And yea I can’t speak on the dating scene but for the amount of time I was there - the rats I saw was disturbing.
Never saw a rat in Richmond, be it downtown or historic district or more “city” spots...
In fact I’ve had discussions with people with people about the rat situation. I think it’s bc you guys don’t had trash cans so people just throw trash on streets.
Literally I was there 2 years ago for NYE and I don’t litter and I can’t tell you how many blocks I walked without finding a bin - busy downtown area.

I’m glad you guys are renovating. Detroit has done a great job - I mean ofc there are shitty spots still but nothing like what I expected from its rep

>> No.15779784

It's /fa/ in the sewer punk kind of way. No one gives a shit outside of center city and even there it's more casual than other big cities. Pretty decent restaurant/bar scene, music scene, and art scene. In the process of massive gentrification but still full of addicts and blacks. Essentially the perfect/worst microcosm for America. You either love it or hate it.

I graduated in 2017. It’s pure delusion. Idk why Pennfaggots want so desperately to keep up this nonsense. It must be an inferiority complex to Penn State or something. It’s a school for nerds and dorks and it is filled with fucking nerds and dorks. Okay? That’s just the reality. It’s not this Wolf of Wall Street extroverted finance bro WASP place you want it to be.
