This is Bulgari Black on steroids. Take all of the rubbery leather aspects on it, amp them up and add some cold metallic notes on a woody background instead of comforting vanilla of Black. Smells like something out of Beaufort London line-up.
>The Lobster
Take the greenness of Xerjoff Nio, replace its citric freshness with bitter smoky qualities and take the soil-animalic facets of the OG Zootopian Bat and attach it beneath a fresh water accord you could know from the new Zootopian Beaver. You'll get The Lobster. Very snice, nontrivial warm weather scent.

That's also what I think. I tested Noble Fig and it was subpar. But maybe you should take it with a grain of salt as I own Ichnusa and smelled many other $100+ fig fragrances so in comparison it's bland.

After trying about 20 different samples, I finally decided on two main colognes.

I went with Versace Pour Homme for a safe, sunny, clean, every day casual wear, especially for gym, workouts, etc.

For my signature scent I went with Sauvage Dior EDP (I prefer EDP to the EDT because the EDP has a sweeter note to it, which I think compliments my general vibe/personality a bit better).

I know the Dior choice is a bit generic, but I really do love the scent as compared to the many many other colognes I tried in search for some fragrances I liked.

What do you guys think about my two choices?

I'm divided over this as for some reason most of people who wear fragrances to gym deliberately always wear Versace PH or Dylan Blue. From a Vetiver point of view they’re so different you can’t compare them. Encre Noire is very Vetiver-forward, Black Knight uses Vetiver to add some lightness to an otherwise dark and brooding scent. It’s an upgrade in terms of quality and performance, but it’s significantly more expensive and not really comparable. It’s a great scent, but not comparable.

Took a shower after my Moth+Rabbit samples and tried it.
>Futura
The opening is one of the most exciting things I smelled in perfumery in 2020. Cutting sharp citruses with aromatic sage giving it a metallic vibe. I think they used here the same trick as Roudnitska did in Eau Sauvage and added a healthy dose of hedione because the scent is very airy and reminds me it subconsciously. However, a few minutes after application it's almost gone from my hand or I went fully anosmic. The only thing I perceive now (not really smell) is the vetiver aromachemical that always drills my nose.
>Rose All Dae
I ordered it mostly because it was a finalist of A+O awards and I try consequently to go through most of the winners and nominations I can put my hands on. I can clearly see why it was nominated because it's one of the most interesting gourmands I tried (just like notes say: apple crisps+honey+brown sugar) but I'm not sure if I can stand it. It's more of a scent of food not perfume. Performance is nuclear though: I sprayed a testing strip once, trashed it in the kitchen, opened windows and still can smell it lingering in the air.

Just tried ELDO - Cologne and I have to write a rant about it. Perfumes from ELDO often seem to me to be inside jokes that you as a customer were actually not invited into. With Cologne I feel the same. These degenerate frenchies probably had a good laugh while coming up with an idea of creating an EdC for 150EUR that would be barely different from 4711 and attach to it the following description 'Etat Libre d'Orange is an ambitious, audacious perfumery - passionate, exuberant, liberated. Free to crate. Free to love and be loved. This is a different kind of perfumery - intelligent, with a point of view.'. There's absolutely nothing special about it (I'd say that it's a bit heavier on neroli&jasmin than 4711). For this price just buy 5 liters of 4711 and bath in it or couple of bottles of the Guerlain's classic colognes like Eau de Guerlain or Cologne Imperiale that are of way better quality and more interesting than ELDO's Cologne. I'd genuinely feel stupid for buying it. The weird thing about ELDO is that they're really not in a position to pull off these kind of jokes. Most of their releases are average at best and they were put on a map only by a few controversial releases like Fat Electrician, Putain des Palaces or the infamous Secretions Magnifique. Even these (apart from the last one) are mostly quite routine frags and talked about due to their names or marketing campaigns. I'm glad that I can vote with my wallet if I find them really that funny though.

I see, from top of my head you should sample Ambre Russe by Parfum d'Empire. It's a cozy, amber-forward scent of niche quality with a very unique spicy-leathery-vodka accord. If you want something more dry and less cozy then Les Jeux Sont Faits might be right up your alley. It doesn't have amber listed but it's definitely there but you got rum and spices that are orders of magnitudes better than in Bulgari and labdanum that gives it a leathery feel (actually that's how you create a leather accord in most of perfumes - you mix a big dose of labdanum with some other ingredients). It could easily be the scent of Le Chiffre in the Casino scene of Casino Royale.

sorry, a bit of a miscommunication
I mean ELDO cologne smells nice, I think it's blended well, but its price, for what it is, makes me laugh to imagine people filling their repertoire with this one.
A classic cologne that basic should be accessible-cheap. What ELDO's doing with Cologne is close to bullshit exploitation of its niche status, but it's forgivable to me because it's well made (albeit basic af). I mean this is the same house that continues to make Secretions Magnifique - I would never purchase, but I don't begrudge them for existing. At the point of niche purchases, you should know better, and in that way, it's pretty funny.

Then there's Profumum Roma Ambra Aurea which is a huge warm ambery scent. They only list three notes there: amber, incense and myrrh but all of them are natural and high quality making it very, very complex (I also believe there's a real ambergris there). The complexity makes it multi-faceted and you get so much more than these three notes. You get amber, leather, vanilla etc. It's probably my favorite amber scent.

Yeah, that's also my point of view. In particular you can go with a single note in hundred different directions, then there are all of the nuances between using different ingredients etc. That's why perfumeries actually hire people who can tell the differences between 100 different batches of jasmine to keep the consistency.

What is your go-to rose-centric scent? I'm currently between Diptyque's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau and Tiziana Terenzi's Ecstasy. The former is a very green scent, not unlike if you were to extend the opening of Green Irish Tweed, with a soapy rose in the background. For reference, the dragon lord of Basenotes described it as an inversion of the Perfumer's Workshop's Tea Rose, which seems about right to me. Ecstasy smells to me like the rose and incense from Portrait of a Lady with a prominent coniferous woody note and is one of the few scents to have induced abstract synesthesia in me, which I take as a mark of quality.
>>15673029
I'm not that anon, but having smelled Pamplelune and Herba Fresca and gotten a sense for the shared style, I suspect that nothing in the line is really "masculine." These are like the olfactory equivalents of pastel colors, which are never really "masculine" in themselves even when worn by men. That isn't to say that they aren't worth wearing. By the way, if the rest of the line follows the pattern of Pamplelune and Herba Fresca, you don't even have to sample the Aqua Allegorias. Just take the real-life plants mentioned and douse them in water. You should have a close approximation of the scent.

So, I got me some samples of Amouage Enclave and Meander. Enclave is ok, but kind of generic and more synthetic than I’m used to from Amouage. Plus Beach Hut kinda did what it’s trying to do already and did it better. Meander, though... big fan. Starts off a lot like Tam Dao, then starts to pick up this sort of sweet, lightly citrusy, floral note, then becomes something a bit like Philosykos. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a fragrance that’s changed this significantly and this many times before, it’s a chameleon! Actually, now that I think about it, meander is kind of a perfect name, because it does sort of meander through several genres. Cool stuff. It’s definitely heavier on the synthetics too, but it kinda works. May have to cop a bottle (and the bottle is gorgeous too!).

Yeah, replace the fresh lavender-peppery accord of NYI with a sea-like salty and animalic ambergris with bitter herbs (from notes I judge that it's caraway, galbanum, basil) and the soft vanilla edge of NYI with powdery orris root (but it's not too powdery - I personally always avoid orris root/iris notes like a plague but it's done so beautifully here). It begs to be worn on a hot day despite being as far as possible from the typical routine citrus/aquatic freshie. This might be a keeper for me. I will see what my thoughts will be like after finishing the sample and if I stay as impressed as I am now, I might cop a bottle for summer/later spring next year.

Guys can u rate my minimalist frag collection? Give suggestions?

Want to stick to 1 maybe 2 but no more than 3 frags. Ideally I want one frag I can wear for everything, but im thinking maybe I need a frag for the seasons (1 for summer + spring and 1 for fall+ winter). Whatever it is, I want to have it for the rest of my life.

Budget: $600

What do I like: sandalwood, amber, ginger, grapefruit, warm spices

What I'm thinking: for spring + summer ill do Le Labo Santal 33. For fall + winter ill do D&G the one edp or perhaps Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan

>>15677771
It's reasonable objective. Sometimes I think of doing something similar. If you live in a mild climate then you can do it either way with 2 bottles: everyday+something special or cold+warm weather. I personally hate Santal 33 as it smells to me of pickles water and dill but Ambre Sultan is really snice. However the main problem I have with your suggestions is that none of these will work well in a summer, let alone a heatwave.
First of all, I hope you have tested these scents already? Especially if you want to commit to a minimalist collection they should be 100% matches not blind buys. I would use $100-$150 out of your budget to buy samples and then small (5ml is more than enough) decants first to be sure just in the case you would pick up some nuances that you hate on 10th wear.
You like similar notes as I do, so I am going to recommend you what I would do with this money.
>2 all-year round spicy-woody fragrances
Geo F Trumper Sandalwood as everyday
Nicolai New York Intense or OJ Ormonde Man as special ocassion
All of these will do perfectly fine both in winter and summer (maybe apart from very, very hot days)
>Warm weather fougere and cold weather oriental
MDCI Invasion Barbare (warm spicy lavender with some fresh grapefruit-ginger accord) or XJ Mefisto Gentiluomo (most beautiful grapefruit I tried)
MDCI Chypre Palatin (the best balsamic fragrance in existence IMO you'll keep coming discovering new facets of it everyday it's that complex, it'd be also cool to have only these MDCIs in a minimalist collection) or Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur (beautiful warm spices) or Profumum Roma Ambra Aurea (that's the best amber I know of)
Any combo of these should be within your budget if you look enough around for deals and would make absolutely patrician collection. I will think of some other combos later.

Thank you for the recommendations.

My problem with MCDI is, from the pictures I've seen online, the bottle looks rather ugly. To me, the look of the bottle matters just as much as the scent. I want something that looks good sitting on my dresser. I appreciate a very clean bottle design.

The only frags I've sampled thus far are all the most popular ones from Le Labo, included in their discovery kit. The only ones from the discovery kit that I liked were Santal 33 and Bergamote 22. I disliked santal 33 at first. It smelled fine but not how id want to smell. After leaving it on my arm for a few hours however the scent seemed to change and now I actually really like it.

I should mention I live in Florida, so I'm sweating my balls off almost all year round. Im sorry to hear my selections don't work well for the summer because thats pretty much the only weather we get here. I do, however, travel to Europe every winter so I am for at least a few weeks out of the year in a cold climate.

I should also mention that I can stretch my budget more than $600, I just felt $600 was a reasonable budget for 2 frags. Considering I want them for the rest of my life I appreciate something very high quality and need not spare any expense

There is no philosophy here. You're just behaving like a fucking consoomer. Le Labo is one of the most overpriced and overhyped houses. They are on the fragrance map only because of massive marketing and profiling into generation of millennials who believe that renting a white apartment with a mattress on the floor instead of a bed and plants for daddy's money in Manhattan is a substitute for personality just like reading Kinfolk or Monocle is. No, the scents are not quality enough to justify the pricetag. No, they don't make the scents at the counter for you, it's just a bogus to make retards like you believe that you are buying a whole experience not yet another product. No, their scents are most of the times not that unique. No, they don't expire it's just written on bottles to make you consoome more. If you want to be a retard who spends $600+ on two bottles based on bottle design then go be on reddit on something. I'm sure they'll recommend you the best looking bottles for a young, dynamic gentleman living his big city life. Or the best atomizer or whatever retards there care about.
