in the past most watch cases were made out of shitty steel, sometimes not even steel, but some nickel/brass alloy nonsense that were vulnerable to sweat corrosion. This was due to cost, poorer technology or out of necessity (war time). A bund strap prevents this by having the leather there so the watch isnt constantly sitting in sweats and oils.

For me, it's the DW 8000. The best gshock watch. I even ask for extra light and the watch is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for light and a buffalo skull appeared. I said, "Wow, time to get tough!" and the nice friendly DW 8000 lit up and read, "Time to get Tough".

Now the watch greets me with "Time to get Tough" and ALWAYS give me light. It's such a fun and cool accessory with my current outfits, I wear it at least 3 times a week for hitting the gym and going on a run, 1-2 times for casual fits on the weekend, and maybe once for dressing up when I'm in a rush but want a great watch that is stylish, tough, and can resist shocks.

I even dip my DW 8000 in the ocean, it's water resistant! What a great watch.

all the generals named are from the Three Kingdoms. Anyone whos remotely into chinese history, three kingdoms, or dynasty warrior games will instantly recognise their names. GuanYu (Guan Gong) is even an actual diety now, he is worshipped as a major god in taoism, and especially popular in southern China, HK and SEA. There is even a giant statue of him in china.

The artist is singaporean chinese diaspora.

as for the watch design itself, its not particularly chinese. You have the typical 祥云 (chinese clouds) pattern, but thats it, really. It is kinda weak.

i would give it a 3/10. The design and parts is too default gshock and not chinese enough. Its just a print job, to be blunt.

Probably the most famous bund strap is the Paul Newman daytona, but that watch is 37mm and that's the point that I'm making, you must have one of those 34-37mm vintage chrono to pull it off.
If you have a modern watch that the lug to lug goes pretty much from edge to edge of your wrist and on top of that, ok bellow, you add a giant piece of leather is just way too much, looks terrible. A great example of bad executions are cosplaying as Brad Pitt from Once upon a time in Hollywood, everytime you see guys doing that, they do it on modern big chronos, simply doesn't work.

in folklore taoism, mortals can transcend into godhood by showing immense virtue.

think of it as very similar to Catholic sainthood

GuanYu in his mortal life was known for his steadfast code of honour, commitment to close friends, and extreme prowess and strength in battle. In history he died in battle, fighting for his sworn brothers. The legend has it that his halberd was so heavy most people would barely be able to swing it, much less use it as a weapon. Basically he is the chinese god of war.

the only other person in [Three Kingdoms] who could face him in a one on one would be Lu Bu, but Lu Bu is more infamous for his treachery and arrogance and is more of an antihero.

These days GuanYu is most often worshipped by the police and also by the mafia(triads) on the other side of the law, for different reasons. There are hundreds, thousands of deities in folklore taoism, and what god is worshipped at a particular temple or family altar depends on the owner's needs. If you ever step into a chinese temple and you see a statue with a red face, it is highly likely him.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judgment_of_Paris_%28wine%29
>The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, also known as the Judgment of Paris, was a wine competition organized in Paris on 24 May 1976 by Steven Spurrier, a British wine merchant, in which French judges carried out two blind tasting comparisons: one of top-quality Chardonnays and another of red wines (Bordeaux wines from France and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from California).[1] A Californian wine rated best in each category, which caused surprise as France was generally regarded as being the foremost producer of the world's best wines. Spurrier sold only French wine and believed that the California wines would not win.[2]
>Although Spurrier had invited many reporters to the original 1976 tasting, the only reporter to attend was George M. Taber from Time, who promptly revealed the results to the world.[13] The horrified and enraged leaders of the French wine industry then banned Spurrier from the nation's prestigious wine-tasting tour for a year, apparently as punishment for the damage his tasting had done to its former image of superiority.[2] The tasting was not covered by the French press, who almost ignored the story. After nearly three months, Le Figaro published an article titled "Did the war of the cru take place?" describing the results as "laughable", and said they "cannot be taken seriously".[3] Six months after the tasting, Le Monde wrote a similarly toned article.[3]

Try it, the amount of times a person can check the phone when its not needed its insanely high, 100-150 times per day, around 1 time each 10 minutes, it's basically being a slave, fully automated phonechecks. If you want to have a healthy approach, set an specific times to phonechecking, I do it usually 4 times per day, at the morning, before lunch, before dinner, and right before going to bed even if its said screens are bad and can cause sleep problems, but thats not my case, I go to bed and I die in less than 1 minute.

Let me guess? You got a newspaper and tv to watch the news?
If you spent time on the app stores and browsing all the apps on your phone, you’ll find more uses for it like everyone else does on their phone. Take Spotify. It’s a app with every song you can search. No more albums or record players. All in your pocket. Got a question? Google that on your phone. I'm that guy, I use my phone when I must do phone things, using the phone supposes more time than using the watch, checking at my watch is less than 1s, opposed to several seconds until I pick my pone and press the button to see the screen, then another seconds to put the watch again on the place it was originally. At the kitchen there is sticky stuff, my hands can be oiled/grasy dirty, having a watch is really nice, you can wash it with no problem, and again, it's easier to chech the time and the chrono is easy and fast to set up, around 4s, and then if you are timing something you leave the kitchen and you can always walk around with your timer on your wrist, just a quick glance and you know the remaining time. Like it or not, a watch is a way better tool to know the time than a damn phone, also there are environments where having your phone is a big no or is a disrespect while having a watch is fine.
Then the screen thing, a phone screen is small compared to a pc screen, if I can chose between a big screen and a small screen to read stuff, I will chose the pc screen, phone only when it's necessary, so I use my phone when I'm lying at bed or at the sofa to see some stream, watch images or something quick that does not require reading.

Really, a phone is a nice tool, but if your life does not depend on it (job or something as important) is not that necessary having it on your hand 24/7.As I said, for me the phone is not that necessary, I don't use social media, do not use it for music, I have a pc, and at work phone is not allowed, I go home and there I have a PC.

Auxiliary nurse, you don't have iddle time to fool around with the phone, when you are working you are not supposed to carry the phone, people leave it at the locker and use it only during the 15 minutes of rest time. I also worked in the music industry building stages, carrying stuff...and while phones were allowed, you couldn't take photos and managers would get mad if they saw you iddle watching your phone (they were top level concerts, I have seen famous singers right at my side), and then the fact that carrying your phone was dangerous because there is a lot of phisical stuff, a lot of hits, there is no safe place for a phone on that environment,a sub manager lost a 1k iphone when he was handling stuff, the phone slipped away and got lost and he was really mad because that phone had all the employees numbers and was fundamental to the job.

Yes, that too, I worked at an small hospital, nurses and aux slacked a lot at the control point because there was plenty of iddle time during afternoons, they hide and watched the phone every time they could, and as soon as someone was near, specially some doctor, they start doing things like if they were working and not slacking, phones were not forbidden, but if any ''boss'' or someone with power saw you, that meant problems because there is a lot of drama and power tripping in those environments.

Image is really important at many jobs, you see people looking at the phones and you know they are slacking, it's a terrible image and any boss that cares about a business will cut that phone situation.

only JDM ones i think. Not even the ones for sale in asia, those always come with spanish or roman numerals.

you can buy kanji daywheels for ~$30 and swap them out yourself (tutoritals on youtube), or mod them with aftermarket dials without the daydate window, though that would mean you'd have invisible daydate and the usual warnings apply.

Probably because "watches as a tool" seems more like an excuse the more you spend on a watch. Watches are less utilitarian and more of accoutrements/jewelry as they get more expensive. It's quite silly arguing that having a watch is better than a phone at keeping and telling time when both can do them perfectly well.

The argument may seem to go both ways, but not quite. A phone used to be a tool to communicate but now does much more as technology improves. A watch may be much more than it was in the past, but doesn't seem to be as valuable and indispensable as a phone. Phones are indispensable and valuable because they have become small computers, not because they are merely communication tools. Watches try to achieve the same thing but often come up short. But that doesn't mean that watches loose their place in our lives. They are still powerful tools and there is a limit on spending for them as long as they protect their utility.

Having said that, it tends to suck the fun out of a hobby. At the end of the day, it's someone else's money. I'm just laying this out here because this anon isn't really doing a good job in presenting his own arguments.

I was referring the time it takes checking the watch vs the time required to check the phone, a wrist check is1s, a phone check is more than that, even more if you have it stored and not at accesible place, unless you are walking with your phone in your hand, a watch is better. When I'm at the computer I check the computer clock because it's there and takes less time than a wristcheck, checking the time its all about getting the info as fast as possible even if its a 3s difference.

My arguments are pretty clear, in my case, a watch is way better than a phone, and usually I don't wear any fancy watch during job days, I use an utilitarian watch, is not a excuse for wearing an expensive watch, I wear a damn casio royale, it's a tool, it tells the time, has alarms, light, and can be trashed without any problem.Watch for watch things, phone for phone things, do you wear boots for running?,no, you get the best type of shoes for each activity.

The static vs dynamic pressure as an excuse for why most watches cant withstand their listed depth ratings has been debunked. The problem is that most watches still can't withstand their stated depth rating.

CWC mellor 72
Out of stuck till the next batch in December but very small 42mm lug to lug measurement.
It has fixed springbars so you either have to wear it on a nato strap or get an open ended leather strap and glue it on to the lugs yourself (this is actually really easy)

yes, very
the hammy khaki is slightly expensive for an "new to watches" entry consideration, but its not so for an ETA.

its weakness is the low WR and that it -does not- look its price.

might be a slight bit more than I originally intended to spend on a first, but honestly I can't find anything in the $100 range that pleases my eyes nearly as much as these hamiltons. I agree that the mechanical version with the bead blasted case and less intricately detailed dial doesn't look quite as expensive as it is, but the auto sure as fuck looks sharp. I just can't find a black auto with stainless strap for less than $650

unless a watch has flowers and vines and other clearly female shit its not a "female watch".
most watches labelled as "female watches" are done so for the general public who know nothing about watches and need a label to shop properly.
I have seen 34mm plain analog casioes labelled as female watches just because they are small.
many watches are unisex and can be worn by smaller guys easily.
its just that their bracelet/strap often tapers too much and you'd need to swap it out.

To be Swiss, watches to have be 60% Swiss value and they don’t come clean to which is. They could make the parts in China and pay Swiss workers high price to put it together or the finishing touches.

Even if I had the money I’d get H. Moser(which is actually Swiss made and don’t hide how their watches are made) or Cartier
