Can someone explain me what is going on here? Is Thailand such a good place to make fragrances? One can obviously find oud there but just like in many other places around the world. Is this because of the low living costs and cheap labor? What's the thing with Islam? There are so many coincidences here. Just watch one of their video and you can tell that there's something strange about them.

This. If anything, a fragrance stored properly tends to get better with age since it macerates. Over long periods, yes, some of the lighter notes may weaken, but not enough to make it anywhere near unwearable. Fragrance basically lasts indefinitely if it’s stored properly.

I have a vintage sampler of 19 as well and I agree. One of my favorites but is a loner frag, big tsundere vibes. Also too bracing going into Fall/Winter I think.

i’m 26 and wear it daily. it’s very simple, elegant, and my girl says it smells like nature the next morning but i don’t get that. there’s definitely more to the composition than just the lavender-vanilla-musk listed on fragrantica, pic is basenotes’ interpretation of it. i don’t think anyone will ever complain about smelling it on you, although some people say it can smell like cat piss when worn on super hot days and if you have bad body chemistry for it because of the musk. but it’s one of those fragrances that you can put it on in the morning, then some more right on top of it in the afternoon and it builds on itself really nicely

>Joop!
For some reason I've never tried it before and was curious. It's a huge sweet spicy floral frag done in 80s way.
>Diesel Bad
It's bad. Opens with a strong smell of alcohol that already lets you know that what you're going to smell is a synthetic (fougere-ish) mess. There's this stinky, salty quality to it that's probably supposed to be caviar from the notes breakdown but that's not how caviar smells like.
>Prada Luna Rossa Carbon
Citric-spicy shaving cream. Notes (coal, metallic & watery notes) make it more interesting than it really is in reality but it's snice overall.
>Byredo Rose Of No Man's Land
If you liked rose in Black Aoud it is a smoother, jammy version of it with some sweetness and medicinal facets (they remind me of oud but that’s maybe my mind making this connection as it associates this kind of rose with oud accords). Feminine leaning.

Then I went to Galilu, a local niche perfumery that I learned about some time ago because of their excellent sampling program. I went there because that's the only place where I can find the jasmine toothpaste I used to use but stayed for longer and tested quite a few niche frags.
>Phaedon Tabac Rouge
Cozy sweet-spicy tobacco (despite the fact that the tobacco note is not listed). If someone is looking for a unisex honeyed tobacco that's a good call. It has a vibe very similar to Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanilla but it's not as loud.
>Bon Parfumeur 602
Shave creamy woody scent (cedar+vetiver+patchouli) with a fresh facet of black pepper.
>ALTAIA Don't Cry For Me
Very floral tea scent. Reminds me of some women's hygiene or products.
>Gallivant Berlin
Then we started talking about tea scents and she showed me some including this one. Berlin is a very snice, fresh citric tea scent of the kind I was looking a lot for. It's surprisingly hard to find good tea scents that wouldn't be X-massy or having a lot of other things going.
>Vilhelm Parfumerie Dear Polly
Another niche tea fragrance. Very polite tea scent with a sea-green feel to it. Elegant and sophisticated. I might cop a bottle of it or Berlin for the next S/S season.
>Mango Skin Vilhelm Parfumerie
Very, very juicy fruity and loud. Reminds me for that reason Byredo's Pulp albeit the dominating note here is mango. The difference is that there's some quite prominent floral undertone making it quite clearly feminine.
>Robert Piguet Bandit
Been reading about it for ages but typically nothing but Casbah or Oud was available for testing locally and I didn't feel like ordering a sample of a women's chypre from 1944. It's beautiful though and could be easily released as an exclusive contemporary niche hidden gem. It's a huge and loud aldehydic chypre that is blended very, very smoothly.

>> No.15622876

>>15622860
>Andrea Maack Coven
Very earthy, dusty but completely wearable oakmoss scent.
>Andrea Maack Craft
Out of the box metallic aldehydes scent. Smells like something from a truly niche Commes des Garcons line up (it has some of the metallic vibe from Copper and overall feel of the silver CdG 2). Overall I'm really impressed with Andrea Maack's frags and definitely gonna look more into the brand.
>Frederic Malle Le Parfum de Therese
Damn, this one should be talked about up there among POAL, French Lover and Carnal Flower. Mindblowingly good, multifaceted fruity aquatic that is both complex and pleasant. It became one of my favorite Malles immediately.

I actually enjoyed the chat with Sales Assistant there as she was both knowledgeable and fun, so we ended up talking a lot and when I said that it's enough of smelling for today and asked to pay for the toothpaste she told me to wait and gave me samples of Malle's POAL, Promise and Santal 33 for free which is quite funny because these samples let alone probably cost 2x times more than the toothpaste lol. 10/10 consumer service and I'm gonna come back there.

After having a lunch I went to try new Amouage releases in another niche shop. The SA there wanted to show me also the new Nasomatto's release as at some point topic moved to Black Afgano.
>Amouage Meander
Unremarkable woody thingy with some sweet spicy undertones.
>Amouage Crimson Rocks
Soft rose with honeyed woods and spices that wrap you in a warm cozy blanket. Good rose fragrance for men who are afraid of rose.
>Amouage Enclave
Very mint-forward scent with some deep darker undertones giving it some substance and making it into not a yet another freshie. However, these undertones are quite abstract and smoothly blended because I can't really distinguish notes here. This structure reminds me a lot of their Beach Hut where ivy, vetiver and myrrh were serving as the deeper undertones to the mint. Pleasant and it probably would do well in every weather but heat. I'm not sure about performance yet because I sprayed it on my hand 1h ago but it's likely very long lasting as my hand is still oily in the place I applied Enclave at. Overall for me it's OK but nothing exceptional (I prefer Beach Hut to it) but my gf was absolutely in love with it and wanted me to stand against the wind when we were out waiting for a bus so she could catch whiffs of it. Later the girl I'm seating working next to in the coworking space I go to these days asked me about my fragrance so it seems to be a crowdpleaser.
>Nasomatto Fantomas
Opens with a transparent, watery melon. Then there is some milky sandalwood coming out that reminds me of Seminalis also created by Gualtieri. There is also some overall oozy musky vibe to it. Strange stuff.

I briefly talked about Therese when I sampled it a couple of months ago. I mainly got it because it’s Roudnitska but I really liked it a lot. It’s the most enormously fruity opening I’ve ever put my nose too but never in a way that becomes overbearing or sickly. It’s like you can almost feel the juiciness and the softness of the flesh... but with your nose. It’s not one I think I’d wear, but purely from an appreciation standpoint it’s definitely among the best in the line.

I also got a sample of Promise recently. There’s one note in it that reminds me of Burning Ben by Strangers and I can only assume it’s the Castoreum, but I’m not too familiar with it so I may be wrong.

Since I got my free bottle of PoaL I’m tempted to buy another Malle fragrance and I’m torn between French Lover, Lys Mediterranee and Monsieur.

Lucky bastard. I love it but isn't the rose to jammy-feminine for you tho?
>I’m torn between French Lover, Lys Mediterranee and Monsieur
French Lover has tons of personality. Opening smells like vegetables just taken out of soil and is going to stay in my memory forever. Lys Mediterranee is beautiful aquatic lily but if you're into this accord then I'd suggest looking into Fathom V. It's more interesting, way darker and more masculine than Lys. Truly niche at its best. I was never overly impressed with Monsieur but my house of choice for patchouli is Jovoy. Perhaps that's why.

I did. I apologize for not posting a review but it was underwhelming and I ended up selling it. I’m so used to the thick rich slums that I had expectations that weren’t met. To summarize it though it was kind of this wheat/pastry accord that was nice. Leaning on gourmand but not quite. Pleasant but not worth the 180 dollar hole in my pocket. Luckily slum high resale value put that money back. I actually talk to josh some over email every now and then.

I don't know if it's just my skin, but it smells really sweet to me. Like, if I hadn't known that CB was compared to Aventus it never would have occurred to me. For me it became more similar in the very deep dry down when the vanilla starts coming out, but I've never really thought of Aventus as a terribly vanilla heavy scent. It's just that little bit that comes out when almost everything else has faded. Kind of like a sweet smell coming from burnt wood if that makes sense. I don't get much vanilla, I get a way stronger version of the drydown of Aventus - not much pineapple, stong, synthetic black currant + lemon and a bit of oakmoss, all that on top of a sticky leather (rubbery) base

Looking forward to your thoughts on Promise, it’s a shame when it feels like I’m the only person here that’s tried certain fragrances.

Regarding PoaL, in the opening I agree it’s jammy and feminine, but when it dries down I think the spicier elements come through and although it never leans masculine, I’d say it’s unisex with hints of femininity. But maybe that’s just my own perception, I’ve never had anybody else comment on it.

Thanks for the suggestions for alternatives on the other scents. I wish I lived somewhere more likely to have things like those so I’ll see if I can find samples online.

I sprayed it today and am 2h in. On my skin it opens as a sweet balsamic scent with some bitter greenness giving it almost medicinal character. It gives you an impression of oud, in the way POAL does, without any oud listed. After 1h the sweetness ceases to be as prominent and the scent gets more smoky (probably thanks to labdanum) and slightly skanky. The skanky part together with the herbaceous green notes reminds me of castoreum in in Yatagan. Overall, Yatagan is not hundred miles away from Promise. Will see how it develops further down the road.

I’m definitely going to resemble Therese because I only had 2ml and I feel it deserves so much more. I do t know if you saw my other post a while back but I was saying about how it doesn’t feel even remotely dated to me. I think a big part of that might be because it was made for one person and as a result didn’t have to conform to trends. This in turn means that any scents we associate with the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. Become “dated” because we associate them with a time period as they followed trends, but with Therese it didn’t have to conform and as a result become timeless. It almost feels a privilege to be able to smell it, which I guess in a way it is.

I’ve only put my nose to modern Eau Sauvage, which is likely miles away from the original formulation, but it’s the only other Roudnitska I’ve tried but I wish I could smell everything he did.

As for Promise you seem to get the same impression as me regarding the balsamic/green aspects. I mentioned Burning Ben and the only other note it shares except Castoreum is Labdanum but since I’m not too familiar with that maybe it’s that I’m smelling, I still need to smell more to figure that out. It seems like I’m smelling the same things, but not able to get the notes right.

I’ll have to try Yatagan too.

Just a sample I got as a freebie in a package. Got it in the late Spring and I've been waiting for the cool weather to test it out because it's extremely cloying otherwise. Leathers aren't really my forte, but I dig floral and fir balsam. Only a tiny dab of this stuff is bearable for me. I hate describing fragrances as formal/mature but it's a good way to describe this one.

Going to test it again in the deep of winter and pretend I'm a Russian oligarch
