Ok, I’ll give you that. I guess technically my kommandiersky is also a Nustok, since it’s apparently a new design (essentially it’s an Amphibia, but slightly better made and a tad more expensive, whereas Kommis should be cheaper) and it’s indeed finished on a level I thought impossible for a Vostok. The bracelet is even kinda decent!
All in all, 60€ (or whatever it was, was not enough to really remember) well spent.

the front button is actually really convenient and that's the best reason to get the mudman. in practice the buttons have a sort of "mushy" feel to them I don't like. it feels cheap, and it's like that because of extra reinforcement against mud.
in terms of overall looks, the square is the best and the solar one is the best version since it doesn't have gay multiband. the buttons are recessed heavily so they are somewhat hard to push if you have fat fingers but I think this is still the best G-Shock.
the caioak is just OK. the digital display is simultaneously more and less useful than you'd think and the lightness of the material and the 3D aspect of the dial are pretty cool in hand, but I'd rather just have the square because that's the quintessential G-Shock and it has everything you want with the minimum farting around.

The obvious answer is that you get all three because they're all really good.

The Ga is probably the most discreet and works in most situations and with most outfits.

The Gw is one of my favourite G's and it should be in everyone's collection. And just like >>15617650 said, it also has mb6 and solar so it'll always run correctly down to the second and you'll never have to change the battery like you will have to do with the other two.

The mudman is also fantastic, and looks and feels bombproof. It's very comfortable to wear and the design is also spot on. The only downside would maybe be the buttons on the side which may be a little bit on the hard side. But that's not really an issue for me since I never use the timer or stopwatch. So if those are important is maybe choose the Gw instead

bought this around two weeks ago but i never noticed that the power reserve indicator goes a little ahead. so the hand is around 40, when i wind it it only goes to the line and it stops going but when i wear it for a while it hand will be on 40. is this normal? i read around and it seems that the orientation of the indicator may vary with each model. could this be that? or is it broken somehow? is functions like it should, when im not wearing it the indicator goes down and vice versa

15618681

>Nomos has introduced three new limited edition versions of their Lambda model to celebrate 175 years of watchmaking in Glashutte, Germany, the home of the Nomos manufacture. Unlike previous versions of the Lambda, always cased in solid gold, these Lambdas are in stainless steel, and thus much more approachable, and perhaps better suited to everyday wear than the $20,000, precious metal versions the brand has produced to this point. With the same distinctive dial layout, case shape, and highly decorated movement as the gold versions, these Lambdas represent a new high-end in Nomos’s stainless steel offerings, and function as something of a bridge between value oriented references we know and love, and the more haute horlogerie focused watches Nomos has produced for years in smaller numbers.

>This level of hand work doesn’t come cheap, even if it is significantly less than a solid gold Lambda. At $7,500, this is an expensive stainless steel watch that exists in a segment Nomos hasn’t really tested to this point, so it will be interesting to gauge the reaction to the stainless steel Lambda as they begin to make their way onto the wrists of collectors. With only 175 pieces of each dial variant being produced, this watch is likely to sell quickly. And if it does, we’ll be curious to see if Nomos continues to play in that $7,000 price point.

It looks good there but this watch just has a different character in shade, the dial and gold accents turn a garish yellow, and any warm toned strap makes things even worse. Plus cool colors just look way better with my pale complexion so it's a really subjective choice.

Perlons might be trendy right now but they have been around a while, this one was actually made when West Germany was still a country. But you're right they weren't around in the mid 50s when this Tudor was made. There were some textured proto-NATO straps like this one that share a bit of resemblance though.

Could you guys redpill me on vintage watches? I'm looking for something bit smaller and dressier, and the poorfar guide has some pointers. Also I guess this:
> Your budget
600 bucks
> Watch type, e.g. dress, diver, pilot
dress
> Movement, e.g. automatic, hand wound, quartz
mechanical, automatic preferred
> Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
don't need any, subdued looks preferred
> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
I'll be probably getting new strap anyway.
> Wrist size or desired watch size
38 - 40mm width at most, 46mm lug to lug at max

Vintage is usually a case of get what visually appeals to you rather than get what is good or cheap

You don't want one as a daily driver because they aren't going to be serviced and the accuracy will be all over the place. If you do get a service done you are expecting to wait a long time, pay a lot of money, and you really don't know if your watchmaker has done a good job or not, could be that it breaks a month after you get it back... It's better to get a cheaper unserviced specimen and use it only on special occasions, my polerouter is really only worn on dining out duty and the occasional wedding and funeral.

If you want a day/date watch make sure you get a movement where the date set mechanism is metal and not plastic, which rarely lasts a decade.

Watch out for work that has been done to aesthetically improve the look and raise the value. There is big business to be had on buying shitty, nasty, mould ridden watches, that are taken apart, the movement is barely cleaned and put back together while the real work is done trying to restore the dial to its former look, and polishing the case to remove all scratches.

True value of a vintage wristwatch lies in a watch that is in good condition, that is original. ORIGINAL ORIGINAL ORIGINAL. NO COSMETIC REPAIR DONE WHATSOEVER.

In regards to what is a good model to focus on, the best brands? Americans, Germans, Frenchies, Japanese and Swissies were doing the best work. Problem is Swiss has a horrible markup because of marketing memes, so I'd avoid it.

It is if you just follow some basic guidelines. Unless the seller states recently serviced, assume it will need a service. Make sure to see that the movement looks fairly clean, no missing screws, hairspring in good shape. Buy a watch with a common workhorse movement with spare parts or doner movements available, or else do a bit of research and know what you're getting into with older rarer movements. Search online and find out who specializes in servicing them. Most watchmakers will accept shipping and a typical service costs $200. Takes a couple weeks. Not a big deal.

Sure you could get a watch with some hidden catastrophe like a bent balance staff pivot, but that's rare and Ebay buyer protection would probably bail you out.

There are dozens of friction points in your watch movement, when the lubricants dry out you have metal on metal contact and parts start wearing until they're too ground down to function.

It's ok, kinda bland, maybe a bit too dressy depending on your usual wardrobe, and I don't find Tissot very compelling as a brand. If your budget can stretch a bit further I might think about Oris or Sinn, this one's probably too much (about twice the price of that Tissot) but I think it's a much cooler watch while still having a similar vibe, and it's a little bit smaller which might be relevant.
