Leather straps would thwart the bracelet problem and I'm sure a brief conversation with a good watch repairer would get you a decent replacement crown that at least fits.

To be honest on most microbrands having a non-original crown is hardly an issue - you get the satisfaction of being in the 0.01% of microbrand owners who bother to get theirs repaired anyway

That'll be a very brief convo given that watch repairers won't usually work on microshitters.
It's not economical to get them repaired in the first place so it's easier to outright reject them instead of getting the reputation of being a rip-off artist who asks $150-200 for "cleaning" a watch that cost the same amount as new, the quality of materials used is questionable to the point that you can't be sure if you can safely remove the hands and the dial or if the case can take an ultrasonic cleaning, factory parts are not available but if anything breaks it's your fault and you'll have to explain yourself to the owner, their base miyota/seiko movements are boring and pose hidden assembly/adjustment issues that the owner will expect you to sort out on your own precious time.
Meanwhile you can get a swiss made CK from the Swatch group with an ETA 2824-2 and a sapphire crystal for $130. Some microshitters look nice but be aware that they are made to be thrown away after a decade or a half and are major ripp-offs for what they are.

No worries, movement swaps are not an issue, it's the cheap and fast standard procedure for widely available modern quartz movements and it's easy to find a guy to do it for you.
The problem is getting 1970-1980's high-end in-house caliber quartz movements repaired where a movement swap isn't an option because it'd destroy the originality of the piece but it's an issue for collectors.

If you do a hands-on job you want a watch that reflects that - you don't want to give your employer the impression you're scared of getting your hands dirty even if you wear gloves etc.

I'd narrow it down to a diver or something on a NATO strap. Consider some of the more understated Omegas, a very nice Seiko even

Yup, you can find (mostly ladies') silver watches on ebay and at most jewellers. The cases are usually made in Italy or Israel, and most have inexpensive japanese quartz movements inside.
You can also find vintage silver wrist watches but tarnishing was an issue before rhodium plating became available, so they were never that popular. Most interesting ones are WW2 field watches in silver cases with stainless steel waterproof backs made by Keystone in order to save more steel for the armaments industry.

Not that anon, but something to keep in mind is the cost/benefit. For instance I think you are on the money when it comes to going for a slightly less practical mechanical dress watch however I dont think a Tudor is the right pic, unless money simply isnt an issue.

I say this as firstly outside of the luxury watch world your 3-5K Tudor (like in >>15592528) is indistinguishable from a sub 500 dollar watch - and in fact might even come off as looking "cheaper". It will get damaged in the course of your work which will become an issue when you have to replace it - in order to keep it matching with your clean look.

Also something to remember generally is that you want to dress well but not in a way that will intimidate or alienate your bosses.

You have to be superior to them without them feeling you are.

Seiko and Orient both have dozens of watches that fit that profile. The SUR line from Seiko offers a lot of bang for buck since you don't care if it's quartz. Orient has the Bambino and similar for automatic dress.

Thought I would update you all on my experience with the US Seiko service center. In case anyone didn't see my original post about a month or two ago I sent my blue alpinist for service because it was running +35 sec/day.

All in all took just about a month between shipping it out and getting it back. After wearing it the past week it seems to still be about +20 seconds fast a day. A little disappointed as my white SARB is only +5 a day but guess I must have just been really lucky on the draw with that one.

All in all my alpinist is at least back in spec now and it was all under warranty so can't complain too much.
