I can talk about a 200k Patek or a 20€ Casio without actually owning them. I can have as much fun with my 56 yo Weekdater that i got for 400€ as you have with your brand new multi-K€ JLC or AP or Rolex or whatever. What i can't talk about is that the watch you own (or just like) is a bad choice because it only cost X amount of money. A watch being a luxury item doesn't necessarily mean it has to cost a lot of money, it simply means that you don't need a watch, but you can afford one, so you did.

there is certainly a market as there are people who went to great lengths to make their watch 'blackout' when it is not available from the maker.

>The watch is a one-of-one piece coated in diamond-like carbon. Look closely into the darkness and you’ll see a pair of tiny quotation marks around the Patek Philippe logo right underneath where the 12-o-clock indicator is typically found.
>Lheureux says the process of blacking this particular watch out took two months. First, “we need to buy the watch, which is not super easy these days,” he explains. The watch, a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 with an annual calendar, alone costs $45,930. After Lheureux can get his hands on the nearly 50-grand piece, it goes into the Mad Paris workshop where it is completely disassembled. This is the only way to ensure every nook and cranny of the watch is voided of color. Those small pieces then need to be washed, polished, brushed, or sandblasted before they’re coated.
>The fun starts once all the pieces are broken down. They go into a specialized vacuum chamber that handles the coating process—like an Easy Bake oven for high-end watches. After preheating, a gas is released into the chamber that covers the pieces of the watch completely. The process has a very cool name that doubles as the moniker of my favorite future hardcore band: “ionic pulverization,” he quips.

i'm pretty sure they're phasing out the 6r15 for the 6r35
i wouldn't be suprised if it's essentiallhy the same movement

in the same price range you'd probably get a sellita
but, the sellita or low range eta would have 4hz vs 3hz
and i believe the 6r35 has a 70hr power reserve so the trade off of lower beat rate but higher power reserve vs the eta's ~50hrs is fair
get what you want but i think the 6r35 is a fair value

also i may be biased but i'm very pleased with my spb149 and i bought at retail 1350
an oris with 35% off retail would put you in the same price range but stylistically i preferred the spb149

It's just higher quality powder coating, done in a vacuum. Disassembly is done in less than an hour. Roughing up the stuff before coating can be mostly done in a tumbler with some fine grain material. Smaller stuff is done by hand but does not require much precision, it just needs to be rough to accept the coating.

Two months for the whole deal is just artificially stretching time to inflate the price.

Originally known for their Airman pilot watches Glycine is a lower-mid range brand with a more illustrious past that's been owned by Invicta for a decade or so now. Afaik it didn't cause quality issues and they continue to operate independently but some people are not happy about it.
Their sole models of interest for watch people are the 36/40mm re-editions of the original Glycine Airman ("The Chief" and "No. 1"). These were going for $500-600 before they got sold out everywhere and were very good buys. As a result most people here probably consider Glycine a budget heritage brand as opposed to a shit brand.
Fitted with swiss automatic eta/sellita workhorse movements they keep decent time, not many here are into their contemporary models but you can buy one if you like the design, they are unlikely to disappoint you for the price.

Nah, the JLC Reverso Duoface is perfect for Batman because it is 2 watches that look like 1 watch, hiding its true nature, just like how Bruce is really Batman. Bruce Wayne/Batman is constantly traveling so the Duoface also works as a kind of GMT.
Harvey Dent is 2 men in 1 and this duality is constantly present, a visual representation of the refined and Apollonian Dent being consumed by madness. There needs to be a sense of the familiar clashing with the strange. So he would probably have a Cartier Tank A Vis 2 Time.

Brand recognition and respectability does not make the watch work better. That's why I was asking if they were over the top quality or just fine and rugged watches, because they were used in many situations a luxury watch wouldn't be really used, like alpinists, divers and soldiers with luxury watches?. Just one month of average salary was enough to get the top watches?. And then you see vintage rolex and they do not really look like luxury pieces, they look very similar to other watches from their respectives eras.

It's the same basic design, the original Daini factory 7000 series layout designed in the late 60s was chosen as the new base for everything because it was easy to mass produce. That's often how movement design works, doesn't mean that they are the same in quality. I mean, if you look at vintage, you have e.g. the basic 6119 that was in low level Seiko 5 shitters, the 6139 hronigraphs and the 36000 bph 61-series Grand Seikos, all sharing the same base design but with unquestionably different specs and quality. Still, I do feel like Seikos current movement design policy is kinda lazy, with new designs only at the very high-end stuff or moved upmarket like 4S (well, not a new design really) and 6L, so I get what you mean. The low end stuff needs to be able to be assembled by the existing automated production lines.

Vintage Rolex were really nice looking, current ones are gaudy shit, compare the picture with current chronographs, they went the soulless bling route.

Sinn watches are what they are utilitarian-military looking watches, you like them or not,it's part of their heritage.Rolex corrupted its heritage.

Is there any reason to not buy microbrand besides "muh heritage"? Why would I buy something like a Seiko Samurai for $450 when I can buy microbrand with same movement, sapphire crystal, better bracelet, lumed ceramic bezel, etc. For like $350? Am I missing something? I am mostly looking at divers in the sub-1000 catergory. Does the "gap" get closer when you approach luxury prices or is it basically the same? IE: You can get a microbrand version of something like a Seamaster or Tudor for half the price?

>> No.15585930

>> No.15585937

If you're looking for divers then the problem can be that microbrands don't get the same sort of certifications that corporate brands get. Too costly, takes too long. So in a lot of cases, microbrand divers WR claims are just that : claims. You can decide to trust them, that's up to you. After all, a bunch of microbrands are making a good name for themselves and are living up to their own claims, so that's good.
Other than this, I guess if you care about in-house movements and the like then microbrands are mostly a "no" but that's about it.
/wt/ will make fun of you but let's be honest, that should be seen as a badge of honor.

That's a toolwatch, if you want jewelry, buy a Rowlecks.

Also, it's nice watch and has its own little story/heritage, a bit bigger than the original, but still nice, I think it's the few big watches I would wear,I like action movies and Arnold and just it being on Predator makes the watch a good item. I don't have Arnold wrists, but how many people have them?,the dude can wear a extremely big panerai and it will look like child's watch. And as I said, it being big is not a problem, currently we see a ton of big sport watches, garmins and stuff that are similar and huge, this seiko is not a dress watch, is a rugged tool.
