This hobby is the worst. I assembled probably a dozen virtual watch collections but I can't buy anything because I'm too poor. I know all there is to know about watches now, and every time I add a watch to my virtual collection, I lose interest in it and don't see the point of working to afford it in real life, because I won't be able to afford the entire colection, and I won't be able to afford the next tier later on in life, and so on.

Oh well.

Just sayin', that's the reasoning and that's the result.
The "return" of watches thanks to fashion watches is fairly recent a a bulk of the 19-30 demographics still don't wear them because, well, their phones already do anything they think a watch does. a watch would be an extra expense for a function that's already covered by something you have on yourself all the time.
That age demographic is probably the least educated on what watches are and what they do so the basic reasoning is "watches are expensive anyway, and my phones does the same stuff and then some so why bother?".
And believe it or not, a whole lot of that demographic doesn't care enough about instagram and youtube to be exposed to MVMT and DW marketing either.

The Swiss watch industry federation publishes its numbers regularly, so do a bunch of other market analysts and overall, the 100-300€ share of the market is the one that has seen the most growth, and that's precisely where you find your DWs and such.
Last time I checked that's what's usually meant by "fashion watch" and these have been doing very well thanks to some pretty aggressive and efficient online marketing to tap into a demographic that was not interested in watches because "just look at your phone" and didn't know much about it which left them unaware that they're being sold dropshipped items.
FFS DW itself is one of the fastest growing companies in the world and one of the most profitable in Europe.

Good job ignoring all the previous posts and what I've been trying to say all along.
Both are actually true.
That share of the market is growing, these brands are doing very well because the demographic they target had no interest in watches. They're making bank on it because no one else competes in it as well as they do.
That doesn't mean they have all of it and no matter how well they are doing, the 19-30 age range is still mostly not that interested in watches.
So yes, that same demographic can both be mostly in the "just look at your phone" mindset and be what's making the fashion watch brands boom because demographics aren't monolithic in their purchase habits.

its pretty fucking nice for a casio to be honest, I dislike the hands as they seem too plain but I like that it doesn't have the ugly Edifice logo. The complications and their many, many markings make it look very busy down to the bezel. Still, not a bad edifice. Hope it serves you well.

Not the richest guy either, but I can happily own 1-3 good watches for every area of life, leisure, work and dress. Go for Casio, then? Their price/performace ratio is pretty high. Alternatively, you can make yourself a custom one. Watch appreciation is not about the price or brand, rather aesthetics and quality.

What is the point in patek? If you're a black rapper who wants to dab on poor black people, you'd get an AP or Rolex. That makes sense. If you're ultra rich and want a fucking house on your wrist you go Jacob&Co or Richard Mille. Patek, breguet, vacheron, JLC, etc are all pointless really. Exception being the nautilus or aquanaut and like I say I'm pretty sure people who want to show off would still choose AP or Rolex. Watches that aren't Rolex, RM or Jacob annoy the fuck out of me. The fact a person would buy a watch over a house or car irritates me too. Idc if you have 200m in the bank, spending hundred k on a watch is pointless.

the bottom basic SNK comes on fabric but they are really shitty and you probably wouldnt want to use the stock strap anyway. lack of workable WR is a problem too. So I would suggest the SNZG
look at Boldr too, they give a lot more value while still using seiko movement. Small size, 200WR, sapphire, screwdown, titanium cases

yes, they are not mutually exclusive, you can have both. For example the nomos lambda is big on simplicity but it also has a ton of character.

Distinctive, bold design choices that leave an impression. How many watches have rocket indices, or a transparent seconds disc featuring a satellite orbiting around the earth? That is worth something even if its "ugly". I actually think its quite creative. My uncle was in the SASR (aussie SAS Regiment) during Vietnam. I asked him once what sort of watch he wore, hoping he'd have a story like the British SAS/SBS that got those coveted rolex milsubs.
Nope. Cheap shit aussie government now, cheap as shit aussie government then. He remembers wearing a fat - relative to "ordinary dress watches" - japanese watch which was probably a seiko or citizen diver of some sort, but he didn't wear it on his wrist. He wore it on a cord around his neck and under his shirt, out of the way. They all did. They couldn't risk it getting snagged on something in a critical moment and also to hide the metal, so that it's glinting didn't give them away during an ambush.
I don't know how common this practice was amongst regular army troops as he's the only vietnam vet I've ever spoken with.

I'd imagine that if the whole spiel about how guns will wreck a mechanical was an actual real problem, then you'll probably hear of accounts of guys that kept their watches this way too.

if you're in the business of selling watches, you would presumably want them worn correctly in promo pics instead of showing the model's hand full of gouges. people routinely pull their cuffs to read their watch, but you wouldn't even notice since the shot wouldn't show the elbow where the cloth is bunched up anyhow.
