15541066 No.15541066 [Reply] [Original]

So far, I only bought one some years ago, it was made from italian moleskin and sold by marks and spencer. It was a bummer, bc. I kept it too long unworn until I noticed how a bad quality it was and how much pilling developed in the crotch after wearing them like 3 times.

Maybe I simply had bad luck with the type of moleskin and the brand.

I would like to give it another try, but this time with more information on how to choose it.

for those, who just encountered this term "moleskin", poster made just a joke, it's not made from animal skin, I don't know about the etymological origin of the term, but these type of trousers are made from 100% cotton.
It*s relatively dense woven yarns who are being napped, i.e. cut and brushed on the surface, creating a fluffy feel and isolation.

Exactly what it sounds like. The soft texture of moleskin fabric is supposed to be comparable to mole skin hides, the hairs of which are traditionally used in fly fishing.

How is Hoggs of fife's Monarch model?

>> No.15544060

>>15541066
Yeah, it was the brand. Those Italian Sparks trousers are shit city, the moleskin has no density and no tightness in the weave. IDK where you are exactly but the best way to get genuinely good moleskins is to go to a tailor/MTM shop and make sure they use quality fabric. You have to be prepared to pay accordingly though, Sparks prices will get you Sparks quality.

How many moles must be skinned for one pair of pants?

>> No.15544145

>>15544102
None, moleskin is cotton. You have to whip about 1.2 negro-miles of skin to get enough cotton for one pair of trousers.

what makes you so sure, that there are no better options?

>> No.15545384

There is also shit like cordings, but it is pretty much the same price as a pair of mtm or even bespoke trousers.

>> No.15545544

>>15545378
There are tons of better options but not for thirty quid. If you won't pay what it costs, you're stuck with the cheap shit. And Sparks has the "bad moleskins" market pretty well covered.
