Any thoughts on the longevity of techwear?

larp core

give it a year. the only reason this isn't going out faster is because the clothes cost so much that people get more committed and aren't about to take an L on a doomed aesthetic with so much money on the line.

How do you call a tech wear but practical and not from designers that demand thousands for it?
I mean isn't techwear supposed to be something developed for urban purposes and made from modern materials?

yes thats what it p much is...that designer stuff is for larpers...normal people buy these things from more affordable brands. IE nike/northface have popular techwear lines devoted to this niche

techwear will last forever, even if its not branded as such its still techwear, nike, northface, belstaff, etc are all putting out shit that fits as well as over companies. Almost every modern fishing jacket would fit the look such as in pic related, entire outfit cost less than 200$ and has lasted through a hurricane. so even if fashion companies stop selling shit labelled techwear which won’t happen because plenty of people still buy it, normies who don’t even know what techwear is will still being buying and wearing techwear looking functional shit in day to day life

>> No.15530876

>>15530752
like it's prob complicated because of an assortment of different reasons why the price could be potentially high.

1) if you have an company like arcteryx with a huge r&d department which is specialized in improving their fabrics, materials for extreme conditions which in turns kind of umbrellas into different departments which kind of makes sense why they end up overcharging more for specific clothes which may have fabrics and materials more exclusive solely to arcteryx such as their veilance line.

2) sometimes the issue isn't designers, but a supply and demand issue. Not enough demand = less supply, which in turns makes the price just a shit ton higher for what is available. Overall most people don't care about a jacket with specific materials or extra pockets and most times want to look "cool" so there isn't going to be a huge production, so you end up having to upcharge because of how expensive sometimes the materials themselves can be (some companies have very extreme demands even for their fabrics so it ends up making something that could be possibly affordable just much more expensive and harder to produce with like GORETEX which is why they always have that tacky signature on any goretex product). It's why a REI jacket is 80% cheaper than what you can get from any other reputable techwear company.

3) most materials in techwear are typically synthetic. What makes it more difficult is specific companies that produce certain materials have their own patents and exclusivity deals on their use, so it's not as easy as any company being able to just pick up production in China. Before even production, there's already some gatekeeping to even being able to have access to the materials. After that, assembly isn't as easy as just putting them together, but sometimes you have other things to consider such as taping seams, waterproofing the materials, etc. so it's not just an assembly line cut and sew process.

Techwear will never die out because it's ironically bought by well-paid IT-tech industry types who want to spend thousands on some waterproof cyberpunk jacket/outfit to just pretend they live in blade runner and are decard cain and are fighting against the system, but only sit in a desk for hours on end in front of their computer while drinking nespresso browsing 4chan.

It's never going to be mainstream because it's so expensive and exclusive. However; that makes it more popular to those types who have it because they are able to continue to gatekeep, shit on those that don't and act like they're the ones who are woke or enlightened in the world because they spend an excessive amount on a jacket that can fold into a backpack.

Try hiking and mountaineering gear. Still expensive but not as much as ACRNM, and has the same bells and whistles. Arcterix, Marmot, Mammut, Black Yak. Even some of the stuff Patagonia and TNF makes.

There are also some minor brands that produce lightweight stuff with gore tex or alternative membranes, water repellent coating, taped seams, etc. I think there were some vendors in tuxbell techwear list that sell something that doesn't look like urban ninja larp, like that one Czech company.

I don't know how much it's "going out" if it isn't the popular to begin with, to anyone who lives in a city how often do you actually see people wearing this stuff? It's hard a subculture as much as any sport/music-related one is, nor is it being incorporated into established normie or high fashion brands that much outside of the most plain options (what you go hiking in, essentially)
It's a great look for posting pictures online but if you're skinny techwear can be flattering without looking larpy as long as the pieces don't have 100 pockets and hanging drawcords.

Yet grails from techwear brands are at an all time high in resell value, you see more and more fast fashion brands like H&M, Zara, Bershka adopting cheap shitty techwear ripoff pieces into their collections. Once you see fast fashion take the reigns of a trend it's already over. Just like biker denim and drop crotch sweat pants fast fashion just expedites the process.
Based H&M being the reaper of fashion.

>Mainstreamed techwear is here, perhaps cemented permanently both in clothing retail as an industry and as a fashion preference for the masses. While certain brands that invested into the extremely niche #techwear fashion aesthetic have started to fade, techwear as practical urban clothing at face value has never been more prominent or available, which is of great value to the discerning consumer intent on maximising their utility. Fashion trends are defined by the majority, not the niche online communities that small streetwear and fashion brands cater to.

It's not going anywhere because it's really only bought and worn by enthusiast who are really into that shit.

Techwear has yet to trickle down because most techwear is expensive as fuck and to normies it's not worth it for the money, they don't understand that you don't need 10 layers of fleeces to stay warm. And to the untrained eyed it looks just like sportswear/athleisure and doesn't really turn heads. And to be honest, it's boring to look at, but being outwardly flashy is not it's point. It's functionality over flash.

The question is whether techwear will ever move beyond the monochrome palette in any significant way.
