Omega Aqua Terra, it fits in-between the field of dress or diver. It lacks the rotating bezel, but has the screwdown crown, anti-magnetism, shock resistance, and overall robust nature of divers. The Omega ATs use pointed indices and a day window at 3 or 6 o'clock, whichever you prefer. I've seen models range anywhere from $2,999 to $4,999 new, depending on where you shop from. The guilloche striped dial isn't to everyone's tastes, though. You may not like it in pictures, but it looks so much more beautiful in person. It's one of those things.

What's the deal with Steinhart? Is it a shitter like Squale or are they just overlooked because they're in the unloved $500-$1000 price range? In my country, they never seem to be sold with other Swiss brands, here they're being carried by the guys who sell me Seiko JDMs. Their Ocean One line seems interesting, particularly the 39s, is there anything else worthwhile in their lineup?

By definition, its the opposite, replicas, both from the company that made the original, and counterfeits by third parties are made to make the buyer believe they're getting the original when they're not. Homages don't hide how they're made by someone else, and done right can be better than the original, though a lot of low effort homages might as well be counterfeit replicas.

replicas on the other hand have the added complication in that they're trying to get as close to the look as the original at the lowest possible cost. I'd argue they're easily more impressive than homages, who can attribute all their design failures and fuckups to "well it's just our style lul"

I don't know if they would be considered a microbrand, but they seem like a decent company, have only ever heard of good feedback from people who order direct from their website. Issues tend to come up in the ones people buy from Gnomon for whatever reason. Their business model seems to be solely online distribution, which is probably why you can get them from people who sell Seiko JDMs. Finishing's hit or miss at times from what I've seen, but when done right they're really solid. I would consider buying if I was into Rolex homages.

Nothing wrong with them, they're just very hard to wear nowadays since the sort of waistcoat the were designed to fit in pretty much no longer exists.

The thing with this is consistency.
You might be able to get the movement to that level of accuracy on the timer but how long would it last with real life wear? Position, temperature, the vagaries of everyday wear etc., etc.
Don't bother unless you have nothing else to do and it's an autsimo pastime. Those movements were not built for that kind of consistent accuracy.

That's the thing. It's a recommendation. Only a chump will send in their perfectly functional watch every 3 to 5 years unless they just like giving the mountain jew free extra money. The way the omega co-axial was designed necessitates strict servicing otherwise you end up having to replace too many parts. This doesn't happen with regular, perfectly functional non-gimmicky movements.

The spring bar is what fails first if you treat your watch roughly. I've never had one fail nor have I heard of anyone having one fail. The advantage seems theoretical at best.

Imo tudor needs to separate it's catalogue into modern and classic markets. Discontinue the black bay since the 58 is the one everyone wants anyways, and if someone wants a full-size diver they get a pelagos instead. Similarly they should downsize the ranger to it's original proportions and keep the north flag as their contemporary offering.

The other watches in that category like the casio oceAnus, the citizens with radio set time and the seiko coutura or brightz models are generally more expensive but I guess you could check them out.
