Getting a tweed jacket made for fall. I'm leaning towards a brown herringbone.
What colors do you think are the most versatile for tweed? Usually I wear OCBDs, khaki and tan chinos, grey and navy trousers, Basic colors up top. Would green or gray be more useful?
Any input on tweed in general would be appreciated.

It's based mainly on the material and usual colors but it's not an exact science. You're unlikely to get a blazer of that thick wool/tweed like composition and the color is not often seen like that in blazers.

It's a sports coat but it's the most casual type of sports coat with patch pockets.

I like (Solid) Crew Light. They are good for 3 seasons, lightweight and comfortable. Even though they aren't thick they are durable and good for 3 season wear. Wear them with boots in fall and spring as well with no issues. Look into their Hiking section for thicker socks for actual hikes and winter wear.

Again that's up to you. The type I like, Crew Light, are uncushioned. Thicker winter socks and socks specifically made for boots tend to be cushioned. Depends on how you prefer them.
If you have a good pair of boots cushion isn't necessary. The lining, insole and midsole should mould to your feet. I know DT seems expensive but I recommend reading reviews, comparing to previous socks you have had good experiences with and trying just one pair. I can almost guarantee you will not be disappointed. Reminder to consider the climate of the area you live in and the typical conditions you will be wearing them in. Thick, cushioned socks in the middle of a hot and humid summer will not go together well.

Label sizing means almost nothing, just gives you a general idea. get your shoulders measured by someone competent. When you try on a jacket make sure the shoulders fit perfectly.
Everything about the jacket is too big for you. You look like a kid wearing his father's clothes. Shoulders too wide, sleeves too wide, jacket too long, gorge too wide. Try on more jackets to see how a good one should fit.

The R and S refer to arm length to be clear, and she's right. Shoulder is key. If the shoulder is off, it's a huge amount of work to correct it.

I wouldn't toss it; I'd simply wear it on cold days with a shirt and sweater underneath or something of size to give a better fit.

For short walks and daily wear in town they are alright in non-winter. For adverse weather, a longer walk or actual hike I pull boot socks over them, would recommend something thicker if you're going to be doing serious walking. If you need padding go with a thicker pair, see how it feels. I can pretty much guarantee you won't be disappointed and even if you are due to their policy you can exchange or return them.

How is the jacket too tight? There is no pulling whatsoever when I button it, it is very comfortable in the chest and back, the shoulders align well with the trousers with even a very slight extension of the shoulder (I like the style and the silhouette it makes). The length covers my bum well and the front quarter sits right at the knuckle of my fingers when I stand relaxed. It literally sits perfect. As for the tie, it obviously isn't "overdressed". Overdressed is always in relation to the occasion in hand, how would you know about that? Are you a friend of my relatives? Moreover, with the high-waisted fresco trousers and that sports jacket, if I were to not wear a tie, you would be screaming that it looks naked without a tie.

I don't really have a direct alternative for the Bedale, as in a waxed hunting jacket. I have used a field jacket (M51) in its stead before and these days turned over to longer rain macs instead for rainier days. Private White VC Twin Track jacket might be a nice alternative, though I haven't tried it out myself. A parka often works well with sports coats, tweeds, flannels etc. as well.
