All advertising everywhere was pretty much exclusively directed at whites until recently because they were the only ones who could afford to buy the products.
Now that we have some people devoted to a more equitable society, we are seeing some reverse discrimination in advertising and it may be difficult for some white people who are accustomed to only seeing themselves in the media, but for all the people of color who are aspirational, seeing another colored person looking successful can be life-changing so it is important that we have role models for every type of person if we want them to become confident and successful and give back to society, which I think we can all agree we want them to do rather than being free-loaders because they didn't know how to be successful.

I can only speak as an American, but we have a weird, weird obsession with black bodies. From athletes, to porn, to musicians, we have a weird fixation on them. Like, we don't like to complicate this relationship by actually knowing individual black people, or living in predominantly black neighborhoods, but we're just coo coo for their bodies, or what their bodies represent.

And don't think it's just white people that are into it. Latinos, Asians, we're all obsessed. So it makes sense to use a black body to sell us stuff. There's also this idea that black people = instantly cool, always, so if attractive black guy wears [product], then [product] is cool, and you can buy it and be cool too. I'm not saying any of this is right or wrong, just that it would explain an "overrepresentation" of black models depending on a brands demographic.
