IMO actives like vitamin c, niacinamide, acids and whatnot are overrated and hydrating toners are underrated. Most of all skin problems come from being dehydrated, for both dry and oily skin and the lone moisturizer people use is usually not enough. Plus most of these toners and moisturizers include stuff like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid anyways so there's no reason to use that shit separately anyways.

Stay hydrated lads.

That's how I reacted to TO Niacinamide and I'm pretty sure that was just me reacting to the product and not purging. But I could tell because my skin also felt a little like it was burning and it was pretty red after application. As far as I understand it, a "purge" is usually acne that has already begun forming, coming to the surface of the skin more quickly due to an increase in the speed of cell turnover (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). Niacinamide increases cell turnover so it could be a purge. But it isn't something I would associate with a serious purge.

Just wondering if anyone could tell me how I could improve my skin care routine?
My skin feels very soft now. Few pimples on my cheeks, 0 on my forehead now. And about 2 tiny ones on my chin. Back before this I had acne everywhere, bumps all over my forehead etc.

However my skin still does have discolouration, pretty sure if it's from my moisturiser as after I apply it my face goes a little red. When I compare the colour of my arms, neck and ears to my face, my face is always a little more red. How would I go about adjusting my routine to prevent this?
Any moisturisers that aren't as harsh?

Personally I don't like short contact therapy, I think just applying it the normal way is more effective. It does cause more irritation that way but it's better for combatting the p acnes bacteria.

All the stuff you mentioned + Centella or niacinamide can help. Glycolic and tret are more harsh but will probably give you faster results if your skin can handle it. Centella is good for damaged skin. Same with snail products but those are usually intended to be used as a moisturizer.

>>15412937
My understanding is that snail is just really really good at moisturizing and soothing skin. I heard it helps with compromised skin too.

>>15412955
All actives take months before you can get noticable results. Vitamin C might be better than niacinamide for you. I dunno about azelaic, but it's definitely not better than retinoid. You can use vitamin C and retinoid in the same regime though.

>>15413002
Are you talkng about those sheets your put on your face? As far as I know, they're just sheets soaked in some serum and shouldn't be anything super potent. Main ingredients vary, just read the box they come in.

Acid peeling solutions are very potent and may burn your skin if you don't following the instructions properly. There's a very different ones like lactic, salicylic, glycolic, etc. Again read the label.

get a basic routine of cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen if you haven't already and make sure to not include products with fragrances, alcohol detanat or essential oils
if it's not better after a month or two look into benzoyl peroxide (do not use this without a moisturizer, it is very drying)

Why is it not fine in the case of itching? There was no burning at all and the itching started after I applied my moisturizer over it actually. But I applied it immediately after so maybe it would have started even without the moisturizer. Also I apply it right after a HA serum since The Ordinary says to apply after water based serums but before heavier creams but I heard some people use it right after cleansing.

If you're not aware. Drunk Elephant (and Sunday Riley) were caught in a big scandal where they were paying their employees to write them fake reviews. Drunk Elephant also got caught making fake accounts to write negative comments on other skincare brand's social media pages. It's hardly a schizo connection to make when it's already been proven to be something they do. I'm surprised to see instagram influencer brands on 4chan, that's all. But if you're happy with the product, that's great to hear. I have heard good things about their babyfacial product.

I have sensitive skin and I've experienced almost no irritation with tret. (0.025%, cream formula, every other night which took a couple of months to build up to, moisturizer underneath, wait 20 minutes to dry, occlusive on top). Of course if someone wants to apply zero care and blast the fuck out of their skin they will get irritated. But that doesn't mean tret isn't a far superior ingredient. But you're right, not everyone wants to use tretinoin for whatever reason, which is also valid. But it doesn't have to be that irritating, if it is, it normally means you need a more supportive skincare routine, to use it less frequently, or at a lower concentration. I've seen a lot of fucked up advice in these threads regarding how to apply tret though, so maybe I am underestimating the amount of people who will bother to take steps to reduce the irritation.

You are going to have to buy expensive shampoo that's made for sensitive scalps.
Unless you can find something online like on iHerb that's cheaper I recommend purchasing a scalp relief serum and using that alongside sensitive scalp shampoo + conditioner until the scabs subside.
But I recommend you visit your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what they recommend for a sensitive scalp. They may have some over the counter stuff or a good brand they recommend.

I used to have scabs in my head until I started using Sukin shampoo + conditioner. Problem is, if I use any other shampoo or conditioner the scabs come right back

Then go get a tan. Use at least, SPF 15 sunscreen for your shoulders and tops of your ears as they are the most exposed part of your body and where skin cancer is generally found. Make sure you take a photo of your back every now and then or get someone to check your back for new spots. If you do get any spots you should visit a skin cancer clinic. Here in Aus they are free so I get a checkup every year. If something looks bad they cut it off and all is good.

I bought face wash + micellar water + cleansing milk + tonic from some budget brand. Ingredients of each seemed alright (checked Paula's Choice Ingredient Dictionary). No idea which product to use when though.

>Exfoilant
Budget brand 0.5% salicylic acid serum (plan to get 2% from The Ordinary next time)

>Moisturizer
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream

>Sunscreen
Derma Sun SPF30 (strength isn't ideal, but was affordable and doesn't have bad ingredients)

Gillette Shaving Foam + Nivea Sensitive After Balm (plan to replace both with something better, suggestions welcome)
