Oh I agree, the Japanese big three have the best and most consistent nibs in the business. However I find their bodies to be somewhat lacking in both construction and inspiration. Most are cartridge converter only, they don’t bother to polish away mold lines and at least one point in time the trim rings Sailor pens were not actual metal bands, just plated plastic. I have had 3 Pilot Custom 823 FA’s that all cracked on me. I can have a german piston filler adjusted to write however i like, but i cannot change the body of a pen, even if it has a good Japanese nib.

When I use a comb it definitely doesn't look half as good as with a brush. I'm no hair expert so I couldn't say why for definite, but I'm sure it's to do with my hair being thin and getting oily at the roots quickly. It's as if the brush disperses the oil throughout the hair, it gives it back some volume. Curly hair is very different and harder to look after. I dated someone with curly hair before and brushing it was always more of an ordeal for them and I think they only did it when it was wet and with a wide tooth comb to avoid breakage.

I only own the andromeda - it's absolutely bulletproof. Shell is fairly thick aluminium, port is stainless, the MMCX connectors are beryllium copper so they're more hard-wearing. I mean I wouldn't jump on them but only the cable would break maybe. They could probably take a car.
