I think there's also the element that a lot of the time when you love an item it usually has a fair lot of things going on. even if it's minimalistic and you love it it may be in a striking cut or obviously lush material. And so when you try to make an outfit comprised of things like that it end up being a lot. So in effect you really need to make a leap when you look at an item and see it as a part of a whole. You end up seeing that effect inadvertently when you put together an outfit that's comprised of "oh that's nothing" items.
