Having lived in NYC for the past 3 years it has my vote. It sounds like an easy answer but the city allows pretty much any aesthetic to work. No one ever really looks out of place and people of various fashion senses look good just walking around. Not to mention it has the best nightlife of any city I've been to. Again, it all comes down to preference but I feel the variety and density of choices of what to do with one's time and places to go bumps it up.

I imagine Miami might be a cool scene but I need to spend extended time there. Thinking I might move there one day.

Stockholm is pretty effay IMO.
Most ppl you see on the streets are dressed fairly fashionably, although a bit generic. Lots of streetwear and modern pseudo-preppy outfits. Then there are a decent sprinkling of ppl in more "out there" styles that catches your eye.
As for underground and night life, the city is big enough to have underground clubs, conserts etc. and it's small enough that u get sense that the underground communities are tightly knit.

Montréal. Lots of character for a Canadian city, lots of mob & biker history that is getting polished over. Close to nature. It's tech scene has been coming up the past decade. Has several universities that contribute to a hip social scene.

TO is very "clean" for a Canadian city. Same with Vancouver.

NYC is a classic. I love SoCal but it's pedestrian. Austin is the big up & comer in the US.

Japan, Western Europe and Singapore are always /fa/. Eastern Europe is hit-or-miss, I hated Prague but I also went when it was cold. The Yugoslav states are still pretty non-friendly to outsiders IME. HK is fa until the government crushes the protests. It won't be effay for a few more years, but the Mexican gov is doing a pretty good job reasserting its authority and PV and MXC are on the up, if you don't mind some crime.

Toronto is actually quite good I have to say. I don't live there anymore but there is a lot to do and there are a lot of subcultures. It doesn't have a lot of everything but it has a little of everything, and if you're in touch with hipster culture of sitting around parks drinking and doing drugs you'd really dig it. And at night you can hit a really extensive line of clubs. Good city of hipsters and preps and suspicious people and average people.

The buildings all being new is cool because you have interesting views you don't get elsewhere and if you want you can rent a 30th+ story condo at around the same price as a 10th story condo. I lived on 30th, it was a great experience, amazing view that I won't be getting maybe ever again in any other city.

Montreal is criminally underrated. Best nightlife and overall atmosphere of any Canadian city. The downtown has both high end brands, interesting history, and small cafes and restaurants. Toronto has a sanitized as fuck downtown. Even if it’s not your scene, Montreal’s sleazy clubs, titty bars, old churches, and narrow streets in the old city give it character. Toronto is just chain restaurants and high end condos.

Quebec City is also great. I say all this as an Ontarian.

I love driving through Montreal late at night and looking at the lights while Montreal Calling by Mobile or Weapon by Matt Good plays on the stereo.

Also Vasco de Gama cafe is always worth a stop

Our rats are to keep away the outsiders. You either love the place or hate it. There is a decent art scene not to mention the museums. Plenty of different underground scenes and different neighborhoods to see. Homeless right outside of city hall and trash/abandoned houses everywhere.
