Lads, I have a confession to make. I think I got HOOOOOHH'ed. Couple months ago I was going over Papillon fragrances at Les Senteurs in Belgravia. One of the most vivid memories was how much I disliked Papillon Salome. I even made a note to myself on fragrantica that 'it smells like more animalic Hyrax' and let me tell you that Hyrax is one stinky frag. Basically the notes of Salome include two of three of/ frag/'s favorite stinky boys, castoreum and hyrax. Today I got a sample of it in a sample swap and decided to spray it for fun because I felt daring and had to go outside to get some chores done, so it seemed fitting. And let me tell you, I quite like now Salome on my skin. I remember it completely different. On my skin it's still really animalic but has some floral-chocolaty vibe to it reminding me of Musk Aswad and beautiful tobacco. Not really a smell that I would get a bottle of but I quite appreciate it from an artistic point of view. I don't know if there's such a difference between it sprayed on skin and testing strip or I'm just slowly going insane and soon going to become a third Waft from the Loft.

In 1996 my father, together with my uncles, created the brand PROFVMVM ROMA and proposed the first fragrance ACQVA DI SALE, a scent inspired by the sea and its magic; definitely one of the most appreciated in the brand’s range.

Also re: Salome. Just found this review. That's precisely why I don't want to be identified with 'niche community' despite having sniffed and sampled 500+ niche stuff over years. But I guess that's the fate of all hobbies to be filled with pretentious faggots like him after reaching some threshold. God, I love /frag/.
>>15303276
What's the thing with this sudden hate for Montale and Mancera in these threads? There's really many more houses more apt for deserving negative attention. They released some classics that will always be a part of the 'canon' but also some of their stuff is only good for air fresheners.
>>15303279
I think it's time to revisit Zootopian Hyrax nad Serge Lutens Musc Koublai Khan. To be fair a month ago I was testing thoroughly Yatagan and found it only very mildly animalic. Maybe my perception has really changed.

>Yohji Yamamoto Yohji Homme
Papa Turin calls it one of three best masculines in existence. He's not wrong. 9/10
>Ormonde Jayne Ambre Royal
Ambroxan fragrance for, wait for it... £295. It's great though and genuinely different from what you know ambroxan for. Bright floral amber. Dior Homme lovers will probably love it too. 7.5/10
>Ormonde Jayne Zizan
Fresher lime twist on the OJ Ormonde Man DNA. I'm in a hate phase of relationship with vetiver, so didn't fall in love. 7/10
>Ormonde Jayne Ta'if
Beautiful creamy rose with the OJ DNA pink pepper-spices brightened by white florals. There's nothing daring about it just excellently executed composition with superb quality ingredients. 8.5/10
>Papillon Salome
Now that I got to the drydown I can finally rate it. Drydown is truly 95% similar to AKAF Musk Aswad. Overall it's a solid 7/10.

speaking of perfume collection sizes, how do i not hoard. I'm at 15 bottles and I'll probably hit 20-25 by the end of the year if I'm not careful. But I don't want to let go of any of my bottles cause i'm a hoarder by nature and i attach sentimentality to the smells. That said i could see myself getting rid of some bottles but its the cheaper stuff, MB Legends, Gucci PH Sport, Nautica Voyage, stuff that I can't resell cause its not worth it with how cheap they are to begin with.

Sell the cheap shits as bundle on facebook or eBay. You'll loose money but that's always the case with stuff that you didn't sample and decanted first. Learn from mistakes. For the rest of your frags ask yourself if you can imagine yourself without it. If you have any hesitations then sell it, it's not a keeper.

For a starting point it’s not a bad spread. Personally Ido t like Dylan Blue, and would prefer to see something lighter and fresher like Versace Pour Homme if you want to keep to the same brand.

Most of what you’ve chosen is just “fine”. But at least there’s a little variety there to help you start figuring out what you enjoy.

I justify my purchases on what stupid shit I could have bought like a new phone each year at £400 a pop or whatever it is.
I mean my wardrobe is literally full so I can't really buy any more clothes, maybe another puffer jacket or something but that's pushing it.
So i'll stick around on /frag/ and look forward to trying new frags once I've thinned my collection out a bit. Maybe burn through my 5ml of Pure Havane I haven't touched if the weather gets cool and rainy again somewhen.

>> No.15305997

Not the person you’re talking to but that’s how I justify purchases. I’ve probably spent maybe £2000, maybe even more, in three years on fragrances. I work with a lot of smokers and somebody I work with used to get cheap tobacco from lorry drivers and sell it on (the driver has since been arrested). People would come in and hand over £200 to this guy for tobacco. It made me realise that if I can afford it, why shouldn’t I treat myself? I buy nice clothes, fragrances, nice whisky etc. And as long as I’m keeping my bills paid, saving enough to build up a safety fund and not forgetting my priorities, why shouldn’t I? People spend much more on much less.

imo carbon, bdc, and dylan blue are all in the same ballpark (if anything i'd personally try carbon first as its the most unique). if you're feeling a bit adventurous, maybe go for something less common, like vetiver-based frags, or maybe some tobacco/rum in there. maybe something airy and fruity too?

I got to wear Interlude Man the other day and that thing is so potent. Something that I barely smelled in the bottle, the incense, suddenly jumped at me as soon as I sprayed it on me and I was left pretty surprised by it. Very nice frag though, I feel like I'll enjoy it more next time now that I know how deep that incense is. It's so dark and light at the same time. I also got a 5ml decant of By The Fireplace cause I couldn't stop thinking about it but I hate it now. The drydown is too cloyingly sweet for my liking. Dior Sauvage. Just seeing that name alone should strike a sense of intimidation and jealousy into you. Edmond Roudnitska's vision was completely unparalleled. I, for one, pull this fragrance off perfectly. A simple spray on the neck, behind the ears, and on my shirt collar is enough to make anybody feel intimidation from my rockstar vibes. Many try, but fail to pull off the fragrance and execute Roudnitska's vision correctly, unlike me.

One of my packages arrived a few days ago! Posting quick reviews if anyone cares.

>Prada L'Homme - 5/10
A very classy, airy, and clean scent. I wish this had something of a character to it like Montblanc Individuel with its berry note, because this one is just straight-up expensive soap. Good, but very boring.
>Chanel Allure Homme Sport - 8/10
My expectations were really low after trying (and hating) Edition Blanche but man this smells good. I'm thinking of getting a full bottle, but I heard Versace Pour Homme is a cheaper alternative to this so I'll try to sample that first.
>Diptyque Philosykos - 8/10
This one was so surprising. Smells very natural with the bitter notes mixed in with sweet ones. Is coconut that creamy base I smell when it dries down? Very unique, okay opening but absolutely AMAZING drydown. I can't see myself getting a full bottle, but I'll definitely keep a decant for special occasions.
>Ferrari Noble Fig - 5/10
This kind of reminds me of Versace The Dreamer (which I hated) but I liked this one. Very bitter at first, then dries to something very creamy to my nose. Some hints of orange, I wish there were more. An hour of projection, the rest skin scent.
>Ferrari Bright Neroli - 7/10
I can see why this is hyped. Reminds me a lot of my childhood as it smells like the park close to our house back then. Very nice, will keep for when I walk my dog on weekends or when I go for groceries.
>Dior Fahrenheit - 6/10
Manly scent. I can appreciate it but I can't imagine myself wearing this. I'll probably seem like I'm overcompensating for my masculinity if I ever do. I can see why Patrick Bateman would wear this, it's perfect for him.
>John Varvatos Artisan Pure - 2/10
Nope. Smells cheap and off-putting.
>Verveine L'Occitane en Provence - 3/10
I got a free sample of this. Had the strength of an air freshener the first 15 minutes, then dries down to something like a lemonade. Not bad, but not a fan.

Ambergris isn’t vomit. It’s closer to poop, if anything. See, sperm whales eat squid, but they can’t digest the beaks of the squid, so sometimes, a beak will get caught in the whale’s gut. The whale responds to this by coating the beak in a waxy, sebaceous substance to reduce irritation and make it easier to pass. Eventually, this mass is excreted out (or the whale dies and it’s released that way). Whales are not hunted for ambergris because only 5-10% of whales will ever produce it, and raw ambergris is basically worthless. It only becomes desirable for perfumery once it’s been aged and cured by the seawater and the sun while floating around for years. There are dealers who go to beaches searching for aged ambergris that washes up. That’s where the stuff used in perfume comes from (or artificial ambergris is used).

Update on this too:

Mugler A*men Pure Havane - smells exactly like Xerjoff Naxos, and I HATE Naxos. If you're interested in Naxos, seriously just buy this instead.

Tom Ford Noir Extreme - way more subtle than I would think from the name and from the TF brand. Very sweet. To be honest I barely remember this scent today, I'll have to return to it

Pdm Layton & Layton Exclusif - read >>15306861

Eau Sauvage & Eau Sauvage Cologne - both wonderful, though because I already own Colonia I think ES is a bit redundant, as they kind of fill the same role. ES cologne I'm going to try during some really hot summer day soon and I think it'll work great. Beautiful citrus

Zoologist Camel, Panda (2017), and Bee - camel smells like funky dates and fruits mixed with some wood. This could fit as a different summer scent (like in the desert...). Will try more.
Panda smells like a green apple lying on a dirt floor in a wet jungle surrounded by green bushes. Beautiful perfumery, hard to wear
Bee is like eating a honeycomb. I usually hate honey but this is more wearable than most honey fragrances. I still don't think I'll wear it though, but it would fit the right person great (most probably a girl)

Looking for some more summer sample recs for my HOT SWEATY workday. Open to just about anything since I have only tried a handful so far.

> screen printing shop worker
> well over 90 degrees F most of the time
> burning gas from dryer, mineral spirits, and plastisol ink all the time
> leave the shop smelling kinda plasticy

So I'm looking for something that will work with that. So far I've found the more clean, soapy stuff to work well, but I also really liked encre noire for the winter.

Have tried so far
> Un Jardin Sur Le Nil - like it but it's a bit sharp and fruity for the shop. Great for a hot day outside though. The green mango really smells amazing.
> CDG 71 - I really like this one as well. The metallic and inky notes work well with my environment, bridging the gap between the stanky plastic smells of the shop and the soapy cleanliness the rest of the scent brings
> Mugler - This one is unremarkable, but extremely unoffensive so another contender for the shop. It basically smells like nice soap after the initial application. Looking for something more fun but I'm still glad I have a nice decant
> Armaf Milestone - Love this one, but it's just not right for my work. Too extravagant. Again, glad to have the decant. Very lovely
> Pen's Uncompromising Sohan - Again too extravagant, but I absolutely love this one. I just don't think I could pull it off with how I carry myself.
> Pen's Much Ado About the Duke - in a similar vein, lovely scent but far too rich for work
> Pen's Juniper Sling - Love this one. It's light and refreshing, and 100% nails the refreshing gin & tonic fragrance. It's a bit pricey for a work scent, another one I'll wear on nice sunny days in public though
> Pen's Blenheim Bouquet - Pretty similar to Juniper Sling, but a bit too sweet for the shop

Bottle of No°5 arrived been wearing it for a few hours now. I'd describe the scent as warm, obviously floral, good for this time of year, though there's nothing stopping you from wearing it in the winter. It's very smooth almost heady. I've seen people say that it smells outdated but I don't get that impression. I do agree with people that says it smells like powder, and to me that makes it smell like babies, fresh out the oven - two weeks old babies, and to me that's a great smell. Despite that (and it's weird to write this after I've written about babies) it still smells sexy and arousing as well. Doesn't smell like a "feminine scent", If any guys here were having reservations about trying it go for it. It also enhanced other fragrances and made me enjoy those more so It's good for mixing throughout the day. Maybe spray the No°5 in the morning and follow it up with a cologne in the afternoon. Worth the $100.

Where does Ferrari's Radiant Bergamot and Pure Lavender stand? Are they as snice as Bright Neroli and Noble Fig? or nothing really to write home about?

Radiant bergamot is a mossy Fougere, One of my worst blind buys. Expected something similar to Dior homme cologne

But that does not mean that a fragrance with different versions will just vary in strength, the notes can also change.

Does being dehydrated affect performance noticeably?

I drink tons of water and still have dry skin. You gotta moisturize every day like a fag and that won’t even make you’re skin better, it will just slow down the aging process

Some people just have very dry skin, but for some people it could help. I usse moisturizer on my face and usually have some over on my hands after which I use on my neck and wrists and I feel that it has helped a little too.

Reporting back in mid day. I think Sohan could work in the heat, especially after a couple hours. It dries down very nicely. Honestly I like it now more that I've given it a proper go, but it's still not what I am looking for for the shop. It's a bit too masculine for me (I'm a blonde soft boy type person).

Go for it man, it's completely inoffensive and the only part of it that really projects is the clean soapy shampoo smells. I got a compliment on it at the shop actually
