Alright, OJ Ormonde Man was 10/10 for me and is probably going to be my bottle, so I decided to explore more from Ormonde Jane. They seem to be overlooked here so I got myself samples of Montabaco, Nawab, Black Gold, Ta'if, Tolu, Montabaco Verano, Ambre Royal. Today the first batch. One sniff, everyone knows the rules.
>OJ Montabaco Intensivo
ISO-E super fragrance for £295.00 by the same guy who founded Escentric Molecules. Opens chemical but after a minute this thing is class. I expected to hate it because I generally hate frags that are too heavy on ISO-E Super and think that Molecule 01 is purely a hype job. But Montabaco is really, really elegant and smooth. I have never smelled ISO-E done this way. Overall it smells like a very posh take on modern fresh-spicy aromachemical DNA. What makes it unique is the ozonic freshness. It smells like air high in mountains. 8.1/10
>OJ Nawab of Oudh Intensivo
Holy fuck, that's one of the best roses I tried. I know that this adjective is thrown around a lot but I can't find a better word than opulent. All other oudy roses (however here oud is not the main focus here) are like village big bands compared to Nawab which is like a full symphonic orchestra. There's shitload of things happening here but it stays very lucid and you can tell the notes apart throughout all phases without them becoming a messy cologne cloud. I just wish it were more masculine: rose plays the main role here and ambergris with citruses bring out some soapy qualities of it out. 9.3/10
>Nobile 1942 1001
Chaotic aromatic fragrance. Fresh, floral, spice everything at the same time. However the quality is there. Good fit for some extravagant, flamboyant gay who wants to get attention. 5.5/10 for me

Rochas Moustache or Boucheron Jaipur if you want to have a cozy warm frag (the first one being more modern). I think you won't like Sport flanker if you didn't like the original EN. The vetiver+ISO is still there it just has aquatic+citrus overtones. Try Eau de Rochas Homme if you want something fresh. If you want to go full reflective oldschool rainy mood then Grey Flannel should do the job. It's dated but you're not looking for a modern youthful and energetic from what I gather,

How cheap is cheap for you? The cheapest proper green fragrance that comes to my mind (and I tested myself) is Floris JF but it's around 50GBP here. Otherwise you can't go wrong with Guerlain Vetiver, too. It always had this quiet confidence aura about it that makes it proper for rainy summer days. Wafts say that Guerlain Apres l'Ondee smells like walking through a forest on a spring morning after rain. However it's categorized as female fragrance and might be a bit too challenging from what I know Wafts for (I haven't tried it myself but it has excellent reviews). Also announced to be discontinued very soon so grab a sample and then bottle if you end up liking it quick. It's not exactly cheap neither though. Similar pricerange as Floris. Another green Guerlain (this time masculine unlike Apres) is Guerlain Homme. I haven't tried it but people speak highly of it. You can get it cheap.

He was probably the most hated member of basenotes, because he would never really take advice or get defensive as hell. >Sauvage Parfum
Official notes are completely misleading and just a marketing hack to make it somehow more sophisticated, deeper and just easier for Sale Assistants at Dior booths to shill normies into buying this new 'intoxicating Oriental'. No 'Sri-Lankan sandalwood grown in a wild plantation that has been a Dior partner for more than 10 years' (kek), no oilbanum. You can tell that it's all synthetic but don't get me wrong it's not really an accusation - 95% of fragrances are synthetic and since it's Dior you can tell that they actually spent some budget on developing it and it's well blended unlike all Nautica Voyages and other shits. But at the end of the day that's the same kind of bergamot-spicy-ambroxan shower gel bomb as Sauvage but more cloying and sweet. You can tell that they basically just wanted to have their Sauvage version of BdC Parfum to take their share of the market and it was created in a Dior's marketing division with a preplanned branding and sales strategy before the perfume was even created. Just wear EdT desu. 4.3/10

>OJ Black Gold
I initially wrote some essay about it but just deleted as I can't really express how good this shit is. In short it's like taking fresh pink pepper-woody DNA of OJ Oromde Man, amping up the realistic juniper berries from it and adding similarly natural and three-dimensional herbal clary sage and some floral-oudy undertones. It's complex, dark and captivating but words really don't do justice here. If fragrance can be a status symbol this is it if I ever smelled one. It's a fragrance of a guy who 'made it in life', perfume equivalent of sporting a Patek Philippe Nautilus on your wrist. Fuck. I got a 1ml sample but just decided to spray all of it on myself at one go as I don't want to come back to it any time soon but rather keep in mind and reserve it as a prize for all my daily grind over last couple years once I join the seven figures club. Let me take you on a journey, friend. You’re on vacation in San Francisco, you return to your hotel but have forgotten your room number. You walk into the room of another guest by mistake. Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Thats not true. Maybe under some extreme conditions they can go off but be rational about it: frags spend most of their lives in warehouses with random temperature and humidity condition then they spend another couple days to weeks in transit with even worse conditions and no one bats an eye. Also that’s ridiculous that the most vocal believers of fragrance expiration theory also often hunt vintages. How the fuck you can believe that frags expire or go off and then buy 40 years old bottle of fragrance that was probably stored in light or bathroom by an average Joe who couldn’t give less fucks about storing it in a dark cool place and then go ‘HOOOOOOOOHHHH THIS VINTAGE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MODERN FORMULATIONS’. >> No.15301086

Sprayed Encre Noire on one wrist, and Guerlain Vetiver on the another. Having smelled maybe five vetiver fragrances i figured out how the vetiver smells. In my opinion, EN is very much smoothly blended while guerlain has this screechy citrusy-mettalic thing in it which hurts my nose. I can literally smell a rusty pipe. Pass from me.

Not the other anon you replied to but I have homme edp and homme l'eau boisee. The edp is a boozy mint frag with a fairly standard woody drydown. Kinda reminds me of herbal liqueur. Boisee is a strong lime juice note over a clean vetiver base, personally I think it's the nicer and more versatile fragrance.

Not the person you quoted but I think what they’re saying is it doesn’t matter if you’ve smelled it because the fragrance as a whole isn’t just fig. It’s like saying “I’ve never smelled beaver piss, will I like Antaeus?”.

And yes, I know castoreum isn’t strictly beaver piss.

For what it’s worth the fig makes it really stand out among an otherwise very fresh line. It adds a richness and depth you don’t find in the more generic summer fragrances.

Many people like Feminite du Bois, Sarrasins, Five O’clock but they were not my cup of tea. If you want something very interesting try De Profundis and Musc Koublai Khan. That's why sampling is so important. How is CdG 71? Ink and metallic notes on paper remind me of CdG 2 but it seems to be completely different. The Odeur line is funny overall - I read that Odeur 53 consists in 65% of Hedione only.

I got a sample from Notino and don't regret testing it. It opens with a dated soapy violet. Don't be discouraged though because couple minutes later a bit bitter herbal greenness comes out and balances the florals and dated vibe out. To be completely fair with you it's not my cup of tea but everyone who likes soapy/iris fragrances like Dior Home or Valentino Uomo Intense should try it as this might be just down your alley. It also has this fougery twist to it that reminds me of Xerjoff Mefisto Gentiluomo or Silver Mountain Water (minus fruits). Years ago I was mass buying cheap fragrances like Rasasi etc. It beats all of them despite costing like $10 per what 10 liters? You can literally wash yourself in it for this price. I'm also not able put my finger or anything here that would smell obviously synthetic or screeching. That's really a very smooth blend but you should definitely test it first.

I would say that in terms of how dated they are NYI is the least then BdP (which is frankly rather mature not dated) and then Caron (which is a bit dated but not horribly). All of them are 25+ though in my opinion.
