I never really got the "shock" over this video because Common projects are........white sneakers. That's it. White leather sneakers....were you expecting some crazy shit to be going on with them?

It's not even like brands like Nike or Adidas who will try to sell you on a new "technology" within the shoe, like Adidas BOOST...Some improvement on the existing tech.

None of that was ever claimed, just white leather sneakers. What you see is what you get.

So then we get this pretty much singular focus on the fact that the "leather" isn't insanely high grade. Ok, boo hoo. "Chromium tanned leather" or whatever. Is there a significant difference in durability between veg tanned vs. chromium, or is it mostly based around the "hand feel" or some other irrelevant metric since no one, not even you is reaching down and feeling up your shoes? It isn't like a leather jacket or something in which you're feeling it constantly.

I guess the funny thing to me is, even if it WERE "premium" leather, that would then justify the price tag?

In reality the difference the actual wearer experiences would probably be marginal if anything, and countless pairs of CPs have been sold and given a pass by the buyers who experienced the material for themselves.

There is a valuation problem deeper than the leather here. The video I don't think as much "exposes" anything as it does reignite the issue of why you find it appropriate to value them at $400 in the first place.
