I tested the final musk, Helicriss, from the Sylvaine Delacourte Discovery Box.
This one is really different. While the other four are rather gentle and more on the feminine side of unisex, Helicriss is spicy and masculine.
The first few seconds are dominated by citrus, but this quickly turns into something very spicy, definitely curry. Wow, I'd be glad if my curry powder had that much flavor.
The drydown is still spicy, but more in the direction of an after shave. Reminds me of one I had once, Adidas Team Force, but much better.
So far, this is the only one I might buy.

I will test the Vanilla Discovery Box next, and I guess I will also order the Orange Blossom Box. Someone here ordered it, did it arrive?

Nio is really great but usually I like a little more spicy / less sweet scents. It's a great unisex spring smell though idk if I would buy a whole bottle for the price it goes for.
Acqua Viva smells exactly like lemon candy, which is amazing, but wearability is kind of low for me compared to other citruses. I think it would fit better on my girlfriend
Acqua di Sale is crazy, it's what all marine scents wish they would dare to be, for good and for bad. A shirt of mine still smell like I went to the beach after I wore it like two weeks ago. I think I would only wear in on super hot summer days

little family photo here - only one not purchased this year was jubi

NYI quite frankly replaces jubilation(made in oman if it matters) for my purposes but since I already have the XXV idk if i’ll get more than a 1oz of NYI

chypre palatin is great but there’s something like slightly off putting about it but I still like it

invasion barbare smells like what wearing a suit feels like. very professional scent in my taste but i’ve sort of been hyping this one up mentally for the longest time and now that i have the sample I’m sort of underwhelmed.

thanks for the recs anons the taste is truly impeccable

Firstly I was really impressed but then on the second wear I found it dated and quite disgusting. "Couch cushion in an Indian nursing home" sums the opening up well. But all of sudden it smells sweet-spicy slick to me. Like someone's cupboard with spilled spices and maple sauce left abandoned in a dorm kitchen for years with a slight locker rooms vibe. Weird. Worth sampling though. If you end up disliking what I dislike about it then you may try Creed Bois du Portugal. It's' like 3' Homme but without the couch cushion element.

For me it opens with a dated soapy violet. Don't be discouraged though because couple minutes later a bit bitter herbal greenness comes out and balances the florals and dated vibe out. To be completely fair with you guys it's not my cup of tea but everyone who likes soapy/iris fragrances like Dior Home or Valentino Uomo Intense should try it as this might be just down your alley. It also has this fougery twist to it that reminds me of Xerjoff Mefisto Gentiluomo or Silver Mountain Water (minus fruits). Years ago I was mass buying cheap fragrances like Rasasi etc. It beats all of them despite costing like $10 per what 10 liters? You can literally wash yourself in it for this price. I'm also not able put my finger or anything here that would smell obviously synthetic or screeching. That's really a very smooth blend but you should definitely test it first.

There are two fragrances that are discussed here under the same name New York Intense. The new release from Fragrance du Bois and Jubilation-smell-a-like and the OG Nicolai's NYI that was I think first shilled by Luca Turin who gave it one of the most enthusiastic 5/5 review but for a very good reason. They don't smell anything like each other but I think now that you're sampling MDCI etc you should also try this classic.

If you're sure you want a 80s powerhouse then sure. It's good choice. But be sure that you'll smell like anise.
The thing with Fuel for Life is that it's like a kids version of APH lol now that I'm thinking about it. Also lots of anise, lavender but all other grown up notes of APH replaced with a super sweet raspberry and some grapefruit to make it even more youthful. It was quite nice when it came out and I definitely smelled it in 2010s but couple months ago I tried it again on the airport and it didn't really stood the test of time imo.
>considering buying this sample pack, decent price for 1ml samples but i dont know any of them apart from the sartorial, naomi goodsir and eight and bob
Get it bro. That's good stuff.
LDDM is a 10/10 amber oriental that is discussed here a lot.
Eight & Bobs are classic worth knowing.
Knize is still one of the most talked leather fragrances. It's a bit dated for me but a reference point for all other men leather frags.
Eucris is one of two fragrances used by Bond in the books (other one being Floris). It's really gothic but interesting. Also Trumpers is a based house.
Goodsir is fucking amazing. Bois d'Ascese is very dark and smoky. I prefer Or du Serail from her 5 frags but it's defo top stuff.
Frapins are tad disappointing performance-wise. Passion Boise is my favorite but it's sadly not here.
Idk Czech&Speake but keep hearing about it.
Overall a great sample pack imo.

I get what you may mean but that's the thing with all chypres that have oakmoss giving a bit dusty feel. I don't really find it dated though and typically am first too say objectively that 'I like something but it's dated' (like APH). I think it's a very snice, comforting scent that definitely has a bright, citrus vibe about it in the first couple hours and then settles down. It's all personal desu, I'm not even 30 but it checks the same boxes as Nicolai New York Intense, Eau Sauvage Parfum do. They're all definitely not simplistic citrus or shower-gels freshies but hit the sweet spot between richness and complexity and just smelling fucking great and fresh. A 18yo guy wearing them might be too much though, just enjoy Eros or whatever till you can. After some age it's just cringy. But it works both ways. Me too. A few weeks ago I posted my collection here and some anon pointed out that I have a lot of redundant and similar fragrances, I keep thinking on it and I'll eventually sell/trade some bottles. It's a small collection compared to this yt/fragcomm guys, but 40 bottles it's too much for me. Also, this is a great article about it: https://frompyrgos.blogspot.com/2020/02/why-i-went-back-to-vintage-old-spice.html

Same bro. All these frag bottles had me feeling weird. I've already sold 11, which were then replaced by 2 niches. I'ma sell 4 more and replace those with 1 more niche. In the end I'ma have 4 niches and 4 designers.. i feel way better and I feel like I'm actually using my bottles. From this point on samples or sell and replace a full bottle.

Why separate the artist from the art? The guy has good taste in frags, but has clear problems. We talk about Wafts' life out of youtube as musicians and while they are #menswear, they aren't dressed poorly. The majority of fragtubers are not applicable to the relation between /fa/ and /frag. A lot of them are poorly dressed losers with disposable income that they haven't put into worthwhile hobbies/pursuits in life

The blogpost reeks of le manly wetshaver meme but has the right idea. I get way more enjoyment out of sampling and exploring what's out there and trying to get exposure to as much as possible so I'm going to continue to focus on decants/samples. My only problem is that finding the one or two collection worthy bottles is time-consuming and like chasing a unicorn.

>> No.15257429

>>15257377
He has some points. For sure one shouldn’t spend more than idk 1-5% of income on hobbies like that. I used to have pretty sizeable collection but then cut down just because I realised that I could easily live without some of these bottles and they just gather dust. It also feels a bit weirdness to have more than 10 bottles but that’s might be me. I much prefer to have a small (for standards here) collection full of 10/10s that I long to wear on the appropriate occasion every time I wear them. I also treat frags like an internal tool for myself to make me feel some way or express some personality traits. I have frags where I want to be professional and sharp, laid back and cozy or emit some aura when I’m on a date. Once you have too many bottles nothing feels special anymore.
