This thread is about the appreciation of fine timepieces such as the Casio f-91w as well as the electrical and chemical engineering that are required to make a fine plastic timepiece.

One of the best “conversations” I’ve had with a Rolex owner was in a high end aquarium store. Was looking at a black tang when I saw the guy next to me wearing a Daytona. So I said “hey nice Daytona” and he responded with “no, it’s a Rolex”.

He’s a big Porsche guy and saw someone at a gas station that had a 946. And he went up to him and told him that he liked his 946 but the guy said it was a 911, and he told him about how it wasn’t and then the guy just blurts out “I bought a 911, I think I know what I bought” and speeds off.

The wait time for Russian post is notoriously long. With Coronavirus about, shipment times are being delayed even more so. I’ve been told there were staffing cuts and cut hours at Russian postal. that's downplaying it. you have to get into the absolute highest tiers of watchmaking to get better than GS level finishing and even then it's competitive. the finishing is completely insane and blows swiss luxury out of the water at a fraction of the price

It's the symbol of the Daini house in Seiko.
Seiko used to have 2 competing design houses, Daini & Suwa. They thought that if they were competing in-house they would always be at their best. Daini's high end watches were King Seiko & Suwa made Grand Seiko.
They stopped making watches that way in the 80s. Daini became SII and make mostly mechanical watches, Suwa became Epson Seiko and make mostly quartz watches.
I think this is because Daini tended to make the better mech movements and Suwa made the best quartz within Seiko.

Honestly, my perfect watch is one that will almost certainly never exist, radio solar combined with a programmable low memory, high battery life processor and a MIP or dot matrix display.

Yeah programmable is a tough one. I'm sure some autistic NEET from /g/ will make one eventually but it will be an ugly piece of shit in a giant 3d printed case.

I do agree a positive MIP display even with just 4 or 5 different fonts and layouts would be awesome. Seiko kind of sort of did that with some of the digital watches they made but mostly they just had different pictures of jojo or some other anime shit.

Aesthetically speaking GS has a lot of designs, but no really great designs. High quality detail finishing can only serving to enhance an overall design, it can not compensate for a bland or ugly design.

Mechanically speaking spring drive removes the most difficult to make elements from the movement. Quartz regulation removes a lot of what I find personally appealing about watches.
