PSA: Love The Look/Lianne Tio Luxury from Netherlands has the promo code 'korting2020' that will take 10% off of everything on the site, including things that are already on sale, which means you can get:
>MDCI 75ml bottles for 163€ which is the cheapest I've seen them anywhere online
>Fornum and Mason bottles from between 115€ and 140€
>Nawab of Oudh Intensivo for 202€, cheapest online by a good stretch
>Ganymede for under 150€

>one of the oldest actual perfume house in existence not basing all of its marketing on it though what is a stark contrast between them and Creed/PdM etc who don't have any history but base their whole marketing raison d'être is based on faking it
>Jean-Paul Guerlain hates niggers
>they actually hate women too and would never let any be in charge of the company (which is actually a bit of a bummer because that's why they didn't let Patricia de Nicolai become the Guerlain in-house perfumer after JP Guerlain had to step down for his comments on niggers)
Yep, that's based.

Let me take you on a journey, friend. You’re on vacation in San Francisco, you return to your hotel but have forgotten your room number. You walk into the room of another guest by mistake. Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. John Waters is sitting on a chair in the corner sipping a cosmopolitan.

Ultra Male is gayer than that room.

Ok, so I think I understand already where do different bottles designs belong on the PdE timeline. First (2003-2014) they had these snice thin 50&100ml bottles with the fancy lid from pic related. At 2014 they changed the lid design to simpler and had been offering only 100ml bottles as in >>15209489. Somewhere in between 2014-2019 they started offering as well 50ml bottles with simple lid as in >>15209495. In 2019 they decided to discontinue 100ml bottles to keep up the exclusive niche appearance and increase price per ml. Hence Origines Parfums is probably the last place where you can get Azemour that cheap in a bottle from the 2014-2019 period. You can still get some of their other frags in 100ml bottles here and there but probably not for long. The good thing is that I didn't read and vocal complaints about juice being reformulated together with bottle design changes but this might not be the case anymore given the 2021 IFRA regulations. Tl;dr if you want a good deal on Azemour then be quick and get it from these Frenchies. It won't be cheaper than that.

I think the first couple of interviews could definitely be done online. But in the later ones, you actually do want to meet the candidate, just as much as the candidate would like to meet the team and his future boss.

And my face-to-face interview was actually super nice. We're still in quarantine here (not police-enforced, we're free to walk around) so instead of me going to their office, we agreed to meet up in a park. It was a beautiful spring day, early morning, we got coffee and just walked and talked. She was way older than me, but other than that it was almost like a first date.

Just got my sample of Bois du Portugal and decant of Cuir Cuba Intense. BdP belongs to the same genre as New York Intense. Just as NYI it opens with bergamot served on some woody background but lavender is definitely the dominant note. The opening is snice and classy and I can imagine someone wearing it as his black tie events fragrance of choice. Despite some NYI similarities it rather reminds me A LOT of Le 3' Homme de Caron. It's like Caron but without the annoying 'couch cushions in an indian nursing house' element to it which is nice but not sure if the increase in price from $30 for a bottle of Caron to $300 a bottle of this Creed makes a good case for buying it. This is the third Creed that I liked other than GIT and SMW (that is completely pointless to buy given that Mefisto Gentiluomo exists) but I wouldn't buy it as I don't really buy frags that I just 'like' anymore. Especially given that I sprayed my NYI on my second wrist and holy shit I've forgotten how good this fragrance is. The fresh, zesty bergamot and black pepper opening of NYI mogs BdP completely. It's so much brighter (but deeper at the same time), voluminous and sparking with energy that BdP looks really pale and flat in the direct comparison. Funnily enough now that it started settling it seems like it just accepted that it can't compete and its dry down conjures up one of these soapy citrus colognes from 90s (I'm sure that Boucheron Pour Homme is 90% similar - I'll test that later). Some can say 'classy' I'd say that BdP just feels dated. There's still only king - New York Intense.

Just watched Jo’s collection video. He seems like a more down to earth kind of guy than Dan. Not that I dislike either of them, but Jo seems more approachable, like you feel if you went up to them down the pub he’d be more open to a conversation. But maybe it’s just that Dan has a kind of authoritative personality on video to keep them on track.

I also found it interesting how you can see he’s been into fragrances longer. It’s often said in videos that Jo got Dan in to them and it feels more like Jo’s collection has been built over decades whereas Dan’s has been bought over a few years. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I feel Jo’s has more of a story.

>> No.15212169

I feel like Jo is more a phlegmatic laid back British type of a guy and Dan is a bit more hyperactive, creative and the real force behind making it all work (it's him who curates their instagram and notice that all of videos are uploaded to his own Youtube account). Probably quite substantially. I've been dating couple of models with 10s k of followers and it's one of the unspoken rules of the business that you don't post anything with boyfriends. To the extent that some of the agencies tell them explicitly that they must not post anything romantically related with guys who are not at least their fiancees. Social media like Insta and probably YouTube in the case of Demi are just massive farms of coomers who want to believe that these girls are somehow available to them. The change in likes is really dramatic, like they were getting 1k of likes for random stuff like their breakfasts but only like 100-200 for anything with me in the photo, regardless if she had bikini or how hot she looked like on the pic.

If they gave it a different name you wouldn’t even consider comparing them.

The older formulation is a huge, long-lasting, monstrous fragrance. I only put my nose to it once so I can’t remember details, but they’re nothing alike. The new formulation is a beautiful mix of light and dark. A bright opening, but dries down to a smooth base. It’s still a little thick, and not one to spray heavily, but never quite loses the lightness from the opening. It’s one I’m always impressed by because it almost feels like two fragrances at once.

You should probably sample them first but I guess this might be hard under corona. From those that I tried JF is the freshest zesty green. Santal is beautiful smooth lavender+sandalwood but a bit more formal. No 89 is classy as fuck rose. That's how I imagine gentlemen leaving White's club at St. James's must smell like after discussing country and world matters over a glass of whisky behind closed doors. Overall I'd say that Santal is the most versatile one but not a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers type of scent (none of their frags are this casual to be honest).

I'd personally don't splurge the money on Tam Dao. I really don't get the hype. It's predominantly sandalwood. Hinoki is unique but doesn't perform well on me. EN Extreme is sweeter, smokier and more round EN. You can;t go wrong with it for the price. Fahrenheit is snice in cold weather. Gucci Absolute is also very snice but doesn't smell like petrol at all.

Sorry, that's one that's been spoiled for me. My grandmother wore it, my grandfather bought it for my mother too, and I can smell it from a mile away walking into lecture theatres when there's a public lecture that appeals to an older demographic.

>>15213823
I really enjoy Tam Dao, it's a bone dry timber/ sandalwood on me/ to my nose.

EN Extreme forgot to mention is the one on that list I've not been able to try, that would be an impulse buy. I'm in two minds about Sport but lean towards enjoying it, the original I've tried on several times but unfortunately am mostly nose-blind to.

>>15213823
>I'll think of something for you if you expand on what you want
Not zoomer sweet but as an example I've been really enjoying Yatagan. Thought I was memed into it initially, smelled like a hideously dated musk in the opening, but holy shit when it settled down I was impressed. Now I even love the opening.

>>15213828
Most expensive frag I've blind bought was Floris Santal, but I knew from other Floris frags that I was able to try on that it would probably be a safe choice. 50 AUD is otherwise my ceiling for a blind buy. That was from memory around 100 AUD. Tam Dao is around 180 AUD for 100mL of the EDT and around 200 AUD is my ceiling for something I've sampled or worn a couple of times at my current level of autism.

Something warm, sweet but not exactly stinky however really cheap: Boucheron Jaipur Homme. I'll repost my old review.
>Opens with nice fresh citrus accord. It smells all natural and could be easily an accord from some fresh Tom Ford Private Blend when it comes to quality. After couple minutes it's actual face shows up. It transforms to a super comfy classy balsamic spicy scent. Warm benzoin, cardamom and cinnamon is very noticeable here. Everything with some florals and green-woody quality lingering that makes it complex. We talk here in /frag/ about so many orientals but this one is really better than most of stuff that costs 5-10x what Boucheron costs.

Hard to answer, you just have to try more fragrances
Formal fragrances are often more complex note-wise OR require the attire to set the fragrance's tone
Jub25 is formal because it is overloaded with notes
Ambre Nuit and Reflection Man are formal because a suit helps with toning down the feminine aspects of the scent

Wearing a casual frag on a formal occasion is unremarkable, wearing a formal frag to a casual occasion is unbearable

It's still a tonka bomb, and you get a slight leatherish note behind the vetiver as well.
