Imagine forum discussion where young IT guy from NYC, mom of 4 kids living in flyover town and rich old man just moved in a comfy Mediterranean house arguing about interiors. It doesn’t work.

Interior design reflects your personality.
Some people storing musical instruments, some people don’t need a kitchen, some people working from home, some people having a party every weekend, there’re thousands lifestyle scenarios.

Is a concrete-look floor okay for a bedroom? Wanna mix modern and kinda industrial furniture and i dont know what floor to use. walls are probably going to be light grey. the "modern" part would be a dresser and a desk while the "industrial" part would be just a clothing rack and a mirror. wanna put some plants in there too, is that a good idea or will it just look like shit?

This book is a classic from the 70’s. Its intention is to elaborate a classification of architectural Patterns that are “good”, that gives life instead of destroying it. Alexander is in search of the wholesomeness.
The patterns exists at all scales : from the city to details in a room.

It will not be for everybody. But if you like to build things, to design your interior I really recommand it.

Thanks for your question anon! Have a good day!

It can look good.
But there are Lots of different concretes. Just don’t be cheap about it. You want a concrete with a beautiful finish and without fucking bubbles. It can be beautiful if you add a small carpet around your bed maybe : concrete is cold.
With plants, maybe a wooden bookcase you’re set.
I’m a bit sceptic about the grey walls thought.

sure, but I think a forum for this exact topic might help when you search for some specific aspects of interior design.
I'm a (hobbyist) musician myself and looking into homestudio design ideas atm. Henning Baer's studio looks great in particular, but it's hard to find ideas for this type of hybrid-studios online. most are just a laptop with some monitor stands.

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be inspo'd by in the bulk of these pictures. Many of these interiors are way too reliant on tall ceilings and huge windows to set their base staging. The only way you're going to see that in person is if you
>hit it big in life
>spend daddy's money/trust fund
>get on a rent control waiting list in a big city and hope corrupt assholes don't kick you off
Plants are great if you have the green thumb and time to maintain them.
Lighting counts for a lot but never really gets emphasized in these threads. Even getting the right bulbs today requires effort with so many uneffay LEDs floating around.

The other big thing that strikes me is the heavy display of mid-century modern furniture. It gets a strange amount of hate around here considering how prominent it is in inspo. I can understand some of it. Getting knockoffs is gambling with cheap shit. Official replicas like Design within Reach have always been expensive for what you get. Danish anything has been a brazen ripoff.

i would get a lamp taht isnt as tall, taht one is too big for the ceiling height. also i think getting a proper bench for taking off shoes would be better in that corner, or maybe a coat rack or something, that corner just looks like you threw some random loose furniture you had, and obviously arrange those cables properly, if possible get a electrician to either move the outlet to behind the tv or get a new outlet installed behind, or if youre too cheap for that cover it with some furniture, maybe a shelf

Its a structural challenge to make a circle in a wall. It's also really difficult to pull off; making the frame would be a pain in the ass; opening circular windows is challenging or impossible. Rectangles and squares are way easier to handle.

I have a question for anyone scrolling through who knows building materials/construction/interior design. What material looks good on walls that can replace paint? For example, you can do wood paneling, but that to me looks tacky and dated in most applications I've seen. Do you have to go with stone or concrete otherwise? Is there something that looks welcoming and comfortable, not sterile and cold, that isn't paint?

First house. Just moved in last week after a couple months of serious renovations. The house was built in 1930s and has really nice ornate ceilings (not pictured) in every room which are still in good condition after a few coats of paint.

Planning on replacing the TV with the Samsung Frame and mounting it on the wall. Any suggestions on what else I can put on that wall?

My rugs are in the post getting delivered later this month.

And yes the bird and the hang-it-all are genuine.

You have a beautiful foundation to work off of, very nice. Any more pics?

I think a switch to some sort of fabric couch would help cozy up the space, something about cheap looking black leather furniture never really looks good especially in stark contrast with all the white around you. If you want a diy project, the media console could really use a facelift since that shade of wood grain would work better in a farmhouse style that doesn't really mesh with the space. Nicely framed photos, mirrors, unique wall calendars would work well on your walls.

Also never really understood the fascination with the meames bird aside from the brand name, but at least the hanger is useful.

Don't decorate your walls with anything unless it genuinely makes you feel something. If you're unsure of what that might be or where to look, search locally for artists who are selling their work and consider buying pieces from them. It could save you money in the interim, and if you find out something about your own taste when it comes to art, and have the money later on, you can upgrade or add to your collection by buying something more refined and probably more expensive.

Can I achieve the layout on the left given the space I have on the right? The picture isn't mine, it's from the current tenants. My furniture is exactly the same size as the left picture. The media console and coffee table is what I'm worried about. I'm afraid they will be too close together. The living room space is 15' x 8.' Where the person is standing taking the picture on the right is a doorway. Oh the right side of her is a window. I want to wall mount the TV where the mirror is.

Friend went all Buddhist/minimalist and moved out of his comfy modern apartment to a creepy, dirty single room like pic related (minus the chair).

No tv, computer, central heating or even a bathroom which he has to use a public toilet across the street.
Literally just a bed and a fridge to put his onions shit in.
