It's European/White style with no outside influence. Neofolk represents the more subdued side of this (not as many colours and patterns as you might see in a country's national dress for example). I see Neofolk looks as existing on a spectrum of earthy-sharp.

I'd say it's European/white traditional style for most of us but that because most of us have that heritage. If you're Hispanic then incorporate Hispanic heritage into it. Pic related is often posted in these threads, thought it doesn't apply to me.

Imo it is about taking that tradition of living in close contact with nature and with a greater spiritual dynamic and updating it with modern and contemporary pieces that don't distract from the associated heritage. Pieces that will still lift the look in 100 years, part of the ethnographic story of a peoples. Every nation and ethnicity has its traditional culture that can be drawn upon by its decedents, and I believe that's one of the best approachs to staving off the global cultural homogeneity we seem to be seeing today.

Folk is just local culture of the people. It isn't exclusive to European. Neofolk is getting in touch with an older culture that may have been lost or isn't practiced i.e. hand tool farming, hunting for sustenance not sport, foraging, or older rituals and superstitions like backwards clothes, and respecting local spirits. Can have influence from Abrahamic culture as well though. Sartorially, first thing would be get away from unnatural ployester fibers and only buy/make clothes from wool, cotton, linen, and leather. Experiment.

Limiting yourself to European culture means you're uncreative and unwilling to learn more.

Well it's true to me.
While I'm not the one who started these dark academia threads here, but I'm the one who made this edgy graphic and keep the meme going for some time. One day I just saw some harmless tumblr pictures here and I thought I could change the vector, turn it into something that looks pleasing to everyone, something that projects a certain mood, and something provocative enough to leave people in doubts about my let's say worldview, I mean a drop of mysticism, some obscure symbols, all that stuff. As a result DA is hated by snobs who say I have no right to dress "academic" (because I'm not working on campus I guess), hated by paranoid lefties who see Hitler everywhere, hated by kids in hoodies and t-shirts because tailoring makes them insecure about themselves, hated by the rest of the board because they think I'm a Harry Potter cosplayer who came from tumblr to convert them. You see it's provoking just like Doug's totenkompf.

I still consider myself as a part of the goth-industrial scene, I have lots of goth friends and I attend neofolk/post-punk/ebm/etc shows, but I feel really out of place marching in milsurp through the city streets and I feel plebeian just wearing the band t-shirts. So I've settled with this style some time ago, I've found comfort in it. It is really the urban neofolk for me.

Thanks for the complement, although the usual cuera tamaulipeca (that's how that piece is called) is in a brown/white color palette I want to get one with a black/gold palette cause I think those fit more with the look I'm going for.

Neofolk is nice, but the more people talk about it, the more it loses its ambiguos substance and gets pushed into some weird "cores" because people wanna grasp something.

Neofolk for me (as german) has always been inspired by writings of Jünger, transcending between tradition and admiration for natures mysticism mixed with a sort of faustian-like will to explore and ascend. Maybe im just a faggy pretender but gives a fuck, it's 2020 and people don't even know if we get to see the next year.
