It's a schefflera that belonged to my grandmother. It's at least 40 years old. My aunt had it for years and nearly killed it before I rescued it 5 years ago. I nursed it back to pic related (fall, 2018). Then last spring, I pruned off about 70% of the foliage... trying to shape it into something more upright and vertical and reveal the interesting trunks. I grew the cuttings into new plants and gave them to aunts and cousins.

I bought a Dumb Cane a month ago to purify the air of my room, I'm just starting to begin to tend houseplants. It's been having yellow leaves recently and rotting, am I overwatering it or lack of sunlight? Or does it need food?

You're probably overwatering it.

It grew all big and beautiful like that in a greenhouse by professional growers. It had warmth and a ton of light. Does it get those things in your room?

Rotting is too much water, yellow leaves are lack of nutrients. Consider repot into a vessel a little bigger, enough to have some fresh soil. Make sure soil drains well, put rocks at the bottom of new pot so water doesn't just pool. Buy some general houseplant food mix and use it sparingly.

I've got this lovely variegated ivy at work I'll snap a photo of tmrw. Grows like a weed and the leaves are sort of tri-tone.

Moss are really cool plants, but I guess most of them are hard to keep indoors.
I've got me some lychen on the balcony, let's see how that works out.

you will clearly see the difference, when comparing these two threads, between the /fa/ attempt of keeping plants and the /an/ attempt
while /an/ is focussed on keepin rather rare or difficult plants, /fa/ is looking at it from an interiour design perspective, which would clash with the /an/ way
there is also a plant general on /out/, which is rather focussed on food plants, as /out/ is looking at it from a hunter/gatherer perspective and trying to survive on it
so you may aswell go there and tell /an/ to go to /out/ or the other way around, it's as idiotic as what you are trying to do here
cheers lad
