Half black here. I dress I guess punk/grungy and have facial piercings. Don't get stereotyped ever really. I don't know how to gauge 'social value' but I've been hit on by art hoe types, a milf on two occasions, a lot of gay guys. I have a good group of friends. etc.

Anyway, that's an example of the way i've gone with a similar issue. I think the most important thing for black people who don't want to be seen as potentially violent thugs is to just avoid hiphop inspired streetwear entirely. Also avoid just being decked out in sport/athleisure brands. From there onwards it's just your personal preference. Lots of stuff can work to say "Hey, i'm not a hoodrat"

Examples include :
Business casual
Music (besides hiphop) inspired styles
Traditional stuff (think 60's/70's ivyleague fashion)
Hell, even conservative styles or workwear. Basically just don't look like you walked out of a mumble rap music video, and also don't look poor. (important distinction is that not looking poor doesn't mean buying expensive pieces. Everyone's seen the broke ass nig wearing 1000 dollar shoes. It means your overall look is upscale).

Depending on your face and haircut you have the bonus of being more exotic by default.
So outfits that otherwise would be too bland/boring/sameish are ok for you.
You can also pull off most culture based stuff.
If you're lightskinned black you're practically immune to the larp-syndrome.
I would try to start like any other person with a minimalistic wardrobe thats timeless and then slowly add more outrageous pieces that fit your personal style that are also ideally timeless.

Huge part of not being taken as a hip hop stereotype nigger is your gestures, demeanor and way of speaking.
If you carry yourself with dignity and with respect for others you'll be fine.
Good vocabulary is important too.

All in all, just try to be a person of value. Sell yourself as clean, smart, trustworthy etc.

The amount of free money scholarships they get is nuts too. It doesn't make me upset though it does make me resentful as a first generation immigrant (slav). This is nearly exactly my experience being black in modern America. Dropped out of college because financial aid wasn't enough, and I was just tired of doing it. Went into a call center for an appliance company and have worked my way up to 60k a year in management, though I'm still constantly a drug test away from unemployment. (I don't do drugs except Tylenol and caffeine, yet somehow still manage to get "randomly selected" more frequently than other colleagues.) I get the cops called on me in my own neighborhood. It's a "nicer," i.e. whiter neighborhood. Even exercising during the daytime results in police cruisers riding around. I have a little Hyundai Veloster hatchback. It's orange. I get pulled over and ticketed even when standing still just for looking like I'm going fast. (I'll fix that situation soon with a preowned Lexus RC350 in white that's been down the road at the Toyota dealership for weeks, although I can only imagine the police encounters I'll have as a black man in a luxury car.)

You do realize that white students still get the vast majority of scholarships, right? You have more "competition" with your fellow white students. This isn't what I believe politically, but if you're casting yourself as a "black guy doing X" when you do something then it's important to know how the black part of the equation interacts with what you're doing. Because of the structure of American society, there was a point in time when Blacks had their own little niche community and if you were white then entering it or appreciating things produced there was genuinely counter cultural. Establishment libs today want to keep this association (and it's very much alive, despite being pretty redundant at this point) because it allows them to just slap a black face on the status quo and claim it's 'radical' or new. this is all aesthetics politically, but luckily for you that's all you need. Your blackness can be used as a way to add a counter cultural element to a lot of things. The trick is you need to appreciate this this basically works when you have an outfit that has a masculine edge. If you're dressing in a kind of softboy way it's doubly cucked, but if you really lean into a prep or high status type of aesthetic you have this vibe of being elite but not of the elite, and if you decide to do something pun/alternative/militant you can take advantage of the fact that your blackness adds a huge element of edge and rebellion.

Hey anon, a fellow black guy here. Ima just start this by saying you clearly do not love yourself, and you need to learn to do so. It isn't easy to learn and accept, because we walk a very difficult path, full of adversity from every side. We can never fit in, and you must find comfort within that fact.
Do not try to dress like anyone else. You need to find what YOU like, and dress that way. You also need to stop giving a fuck about the opinions of others, and cut out this retarded trying to fit in bullshit. Now I can't tell you how to dress yourself, but I can tell you the things I take inspiration from, which may in turn help you. Look at black fashion ranging from the 60s-80s, there are lots of good looks you can find based off of things you see in this era. Look at hairstyles popular from the 70s to modern day, things like afros, dreadlock variations, waves, and drop fades. There are a lot of different hairstyles to choose from. If you're looking for more modern inspo, the youtube Tim Dessaint has good ideas for outfits that are smart but still chill enough where you won't seem like you are over dressing. If you can mix and match based off of tips from people like Tim and things that you see that you like then I'm sure you'll find something that you yourself really enjoy.
Doing so should make you more confident as a black man, and will help you demand the respect of others.
