i just moved places and am set on my hallway and living room but have no idea what to do with my bedroom. I'll fit in a bed, tv, probably a small couch and my desk and am lost trying to figure out what color to paint my wall in
ill already have tan in the hallway and living room, white is also boring, really looking for inspo

Look up some color theory to get an idea of what mood you want your bedroom to set.
Also your rooms to tie into one another in some way when you're standing in one looking out to the other.

Some time ago I got a quite well paid job and I'm looking to buy an apartment some time next winter. Because of that I started obviously thinking of how I want the interiors to look like. What resources do you recommend to improve my taste and see the possibilities if I want to go over the white-walls-lots-of-plants-big-windows-mattress-on-floor-kinfolk-minimalism? I feel like I'm missing interior design vocabulary other than what millennials on internet find alluring. I'm following now Dwell, Apartamento and Wallpaper magazines but have some unsettling intuition that most of the stuff there is just a step above the Kinfolkish minimalism I just critiqued, with the target of millennials replaced by 30-something (upper)middle class, well groomed "global nomads" reading Monocle on their international flights. Maybe it's just me being cynical and overcategorizing people but I feel like 90% of interior design publication are recycling the same theme over and over again. Are there any patrician magazines worth following or I should just rather research some interior designers/studios whose style resonates with mine? For example I really like Axel Vervoordt and his studio (I'm mentioning him only for example's sake. I'm 100% open to your suggestions about different styles). but I don't feel like I'm improving my taste a lot just by looking at photos of his work. I'd rather prefer some better structured publication/magazine to read. Thanks for reading my blogpost.

i painted my bedroom red the last 2 times and im done with that. my current bedroom is about 15 square meters. i dislike the idea of very unsaturated and light tints because those give off a sense of coldness to me. currently i'm thinking emerald or bottle green or dark blue for my bedroom but idk.
The hallway in front of my bedroom is so small it will barely fit anything besides a painting on the wall so theres really not much tieing in to do

I a gree with you but I think the idea is good. But the execution is poor. If they used high quality pieces and didn't do all of these matchy geometric patterns making it too busy and faux art it could be good. Is there any other way for someone not coming from old money but who doesn't want to loose his identity like in all of that modern apartments all looking like airport hotel rooms? I don't think so

Agreed. However, first of all it's surprisingly hard for me to source good looking interiors. Secondly, I'd like to develop my taste. If I'm only presented with one type of design, I will likely just develop my taste within this spectrum and surprisingly many pictures posted here belong to one bubble or its subbubbles.

Vervoordt is great. His interest in finding harmony between antiquarian tastes and the contemporary world is something I see in my own takes on decor and fashion in general.

I'd look to the magazines or interior threads for inspo, but not to buy. Maybe it's not a universal feeling but catalog pieces don't do much in making a space feel like it's yours. Finding unique things, weather contemporary bespoke, vintage or antique, seems imo to be the best way end up with things you actually feel a connection to or attach a worthy memory to. This is best done in person, as the value of the experience in obtaining something adds to it. (ex: haggling the price on a unique item in a local shop give the item more character in life than just paying sticker price on the internet)

Its all consumerist bs in the end, but imo obtaining unique character pieces in authentic ways where you engage with your community is a big step up from buying a look from a catalog.

As far as inspo, I find music, movies, books and threads here and on /wg/ plenty inspiring for visual aesthetics, wish I could recommend magazines/blogs.

Keep the balance between what your style is and what you want it to be in mind. It's good to expand your interests and reflect them visually and it's good to use style as a means of working on who you are. Just avoid going too outside yourself and going full larp.

This interior sums of /fa/ perfectly: form over function. Beauty over usability.
Both the sofa and chairs look like absolute rocks to sit on. Not sure what kind of guest would park themselves on it unless they were only stopping in for a few minutes. They do get the MCM feel done well.
What even is that big, honkin' light on the wall? Ambient lighting is cool, but blasting the people trying to watch the TV is not the way to go.
Speaking of TV, the console is way too high or view too small.
The dining table doesn't look like it has been used once.

That is 100% a built-in window bench/seat with the intention of storing things inside, but if you dont want people to sit on there - then you're 100% entitled to it.

Regarding the canvas though; it actually doesnt really suit the room and you should consider getting something else entirely.

You're right, but it's what I have and feel something is better than nothing.

I'll look at a Pier 1 that's closing for some throws and cushions or whatever to put on the bench. I just question the stability of sitting on the lid a little.

Thank you again for the suggestions. This really isn't something I'm good with. Do you have any other advice for a love seat or something I should get? I need more seating in the living room area.

Its just optional seating at best.

>Do you have any other advice for a love seat or something I should get?
This comes down to personal preference and the space available to you. I'd recommend to get a couch you can actually lay down on. One that's not bulky and definitely not get a corner unit, because nobody sits really sits in the corner area so it just waste space. The best thing to do is stick to the basic couch and two tub chair combo and then figure out the layout.

Just keep in mind not to obstruct you "walking paths" in your rooms. If people have to walk around furniture to get somewhere; then you're doing it wrong.

you shouldn't have mattresses on solid wood, if that's what you were meaning by deck. you should have slats for air to flow, otherwise moisture and damp gets into the mattress and it is unhygenic.

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

It just all depends on the market and location, amigo. I paid $230k for my house when they were asking $240k. It's a roughly 100 year old bungalow style with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and ~1600 sq. ft.

I could have got something with 1,000 more sq. ft. and $30k less if I had opted to live in the suburbs, but why? I have good resale value on my home and it's in a pretty nice area.(I'm on the last block before it starts getting more... diverse)

But yeah, keep looking. You're very unlikely to find the right house in the right area right away. Just keep your options open and give it time.

Yeah, it's more tricky that it seems at the first sight if you don't want to just recreate a particular style and don't want just to let an interior design graduate to decide upon the space you'll be living in for rest of your life. I wouldn't be comfortable with doing the former as I don't really have heritage to back it up (I know that I'm just too self-aware here and many noveau riche people recreate literal Chippendale salons without any second thought) and I want to make it a bit more personal even at cost of some dissonances. I've been thinking about this a lot recently and realized that at the first place one must be understand his own identity very well as this is an absolute basis where any style can stem from. In my case it'll pretty much result in a contemporary style. It's a very vague category but at least I know where I stand now and can completely ignore anything too heavily inspired by other styles let it be Biedermeier or Midcentury. In the meantime I started looking at catalogues of Dezeen/Muuto/vitra/Knoll etc to see roughly what are the means of expressions I can have. From time to time I also plan to visit Victoria&Albert and Design Museum London to widen my understanding of evolution of the interior design. Then I still lack magazines I was writing about in my first post but hope to stumble upon some good inspiration sources while I start getting into the topic.

How can I make a uni dorm room (American) more inviting? Mine will look very similar to pic related, minus the lights and wall board things. I'm really not sure what rugs would work on the lino floor, or how to make the shitty wood furniture look decent.
