Wearing Au Coeur du Désert and I think it's even better than LDDM. It feels like a grown up version of LDDM. It's bigger, darker, more incensey and missing the sweetness of amber that is so characteristic of LDDM. Indeed, my gf when asked what does she think of it (I was wearing LDDM) just said 'it's sweet'. One of two flankers that I know of that could really be called an 'intense' version (the other one being ELDO Rien/Rien Intense). Apparently it's extrait so I expect a better performance but can't tell yet as I'm only 3 hours in. Not sure if all that justifies a 40% higher pricetag. I will come back to you with some concluding thoughts after a week of alternate wearing of ACDD and LDDM.

trying out a sample of Montblanc Explorer at work for the first time today - never actually smelled Aventus proper but as its own thing, i guess Explorer is slightly more wearable than the usual trashy club scents i get as free samples. turns chemical pretty quickly and starts smelling like a mid-tier shaving foam - i quite like synthetic things so i don't mind it, but the way they're being used here is too masculine for a gloomy twink like me so i feel like i'm wearing a lie

anyone tried both this and Aventus?

30m here, I'm trying to find a nice, natural-ish spring fragrance that isn't too bro-y or oldguy smelling

things i love and already have
- Diptyque Philosykos
- le labo Santal 33 and Bergamote 22
- CDG Wonderwood & Blackpepper
- creed virgin island water
- palo santo
- escentric moleucule 01

things i *don't* want it to smell like
- ysl la nuit l'homme
- tauer l'air du desert marocain
- aqua di gio
- sauvage
- zoologist camel
- creed erolfa & millisemme imperial

any tips? looking for something that is kind of a head turner and non-"cologne"y

I think I'm finally finishing my rotation of frags with 11 or so bottles, slowly thinning and wearing samples of frags I enjoy but don't deem full bottle worthy.
The thing is I feel I could do with a frag with a "warm spicy" accord, as stated by fragrantica voters.
La Nuit doesn't last long enough on my skin for that to be it. Should I try niche with stuff like Herod, Ambre Sultan and Musc Ravageur sample? I feel my collection is quite basic with cheaper scents mostly, ADG Profumo being the most expensive one I own

I just tested two other Tauers from my sample pack
>05 Incense Extreme
I think I really, really don't like orris root smell (had the same thing with some 4160 Tuesdays fragrance). Its powderiness is almost the only thing that I can get here. It obviously has the incense-corriander seeds-amber Tauer DNA accord but I really don't like it. It's also not as extreme as the name could suggest. Pretty tame in comparison to LDDM or ACDD. 2/5
>03 Lonestar Memories
It's alright myrrhy leather fragrance. Maybe it's fault of the richeness of leather in Oud Cuire that I tested recently but leather here seems to very timid to me. Quite generic oriental fragrance. It also shares the typical Tauer DNA. 3/5
I still need to test Carillon pour un ange but I don't expect a lot from it. Lilac and lily-of-the-valley don't sound like my cup of tea.

So I tried to spray my fragrance at my collarbones instead of neck and it works very well for me. 6h after application I get cosy wafts of it now and then and the smell from underneath my shirt and jumper is just glorious thanks to warmth of the body. It also smells way softer and rounded as it mixes with this soft white musk laundry smell of freshly washed clothes. The obvious caveat is that one needs to change the shirt before spraying some other scent.

>Let there be light! And darkness no more. He who wishes does not have a black soul! “I will come as a thief …” said Christ; certainly in silence and probably, for him, wearing shoes. To deserve his title, the Thief must act under the wide-open eye of the absent owners. In this case, it is not that tenuous eye with which Cain stares without regret, but another, which in some way will make an accomplice of Abel. If the fetishes, idols and charms of the Museum of Man, in Paris, had not met the 20th century, everyone would have missed that incredible mockery of Eros which The Young Ladies of Avignon certainly is. “The Negros had understood that everything which surrounds us is our enemy”, the wizard Picasso said to his paintbrush. Who, if not one of them, decided on life, by death, would dare, to unclench the teeth of this sex of the world: fear. Since it is the fruit of our entrails, it must be elevated. For that, not fearing incest, we will embrace it. In this way, she will give birth to our most beautiful monsters. That is how, a little rusty by dint of doubts, my steps have rejoined La vierge de fer (the Iron Maiden); that lily amongst the thorns.

Just got 6 more of Al Faransi ittars samples.
>Oud Abiyad
A lesser Oud Cuire. Musky Oud+Leather with some citruses. Despite the ittar being as thick as tar, it doesn't seem to be a terrific performer. I can barely smell it.
>Oud Abiyad Manhattan
It seems to be Al Faransi's middle eastern take on the modern fruity chypre genre (think Aventus). Nice citruses on a woody base with some underlying eastern medicinal oud. Quite snice stuff.
>Oud Al Amir
Barnyard oud+honey with some gourmandy fruity+confectionery accord in the background. That's a bit too much for me I'm afraid. I really think that my tolerance for skanky ouds is quite high (not as high as e.g. Wafts' though) but here the sweet notes bring out some fecal qualities of oud.
>Oud Al Fares
Holy fuck, that's a one majestic oud. It's quite bold but not skanky. There are some woods, spices and something fresh in it that balances everything out. If tamed down, it could easily be something from an exclusive Roja Dove line. I'm trying to recall which Roja does it remind me of, but I'm not really sure. I think it could be Amber Aoud.
>Oud Cacao
It's like an intense version of Pierre Guillaume Aomassai 10 but 10x better. Mouthwatering chocolate, hazelnuts, caramel on a woody base. Everything here screams high quality. The second I sniffed it I jumped to see how much does it cost as I've been eyeing Aomassai 10 for a long time but sadly it's not available anymore. Hands down my favorite of this lot.
Hands down my favorite of this lot.

As much as I loved Demi for her take on what are sexy men's fragrances, it feels like her opinions are now biased. She's hit that level of fame where she has to "play the game" instead of being 100% honest. She doesn't properly disclose that she's given free bottles for reviews and she, and other fragrance YouTubers, were indirectly exposed by Jeremy. Her video on that Roja Dove fragrance was her trying to conceal she got the bottle for free. Companies are sending them shit ton of stuff (without explicitly paying them or asking for a positive review), so I suspect their integrity when they don't trash enough fragrances they review.

For Jeremy's scents, its only metric is being a panty dropper. If it gets outclassed by other fragrances then it fails its goals. I remember one person even brought up that he ended up selecting the final product not because it smells the best to him, but that it preformed best in female reactions.

>> No.14989148

>>14989015
I can see one (1) namefag.

>> No.14989159

>>14989146
Yeah, but it performed best on female reactions when a JEREMY wore it. That’s why it’s a useless metric. Jeremy could wear 15 sprays of Sombre and women would still compliment him. That’s the flaw in his whole process. To borrow an analogy another anon used earlier, it’d be like selling special paint for cars that’ll totally make women want to fuck you, except your proof of concept was testing it on a Lamborghini, while the people you’re selling it to are driving Honda Civics. Now, if Jeremy was getting random average looking dudes to test it and see what kind of compliments they were getting, I might be more inclined to believe him.

Beyond all that, Virtus actually is a decent scent and does smell niche quality. It’s not incredible, but I don’t feel like I wasted my money (especially since they sent me two by mistake kek). Date is complete mediocrity. Not only is it not niche quality, it’d be on the low end of designers. It’s literally Axe-quality.

>> No.14989203

>>14989159
Yeah I can see your point there, that's why I only believe in fragrance battles from other channels that have girls compare his fragrance with other mainstream designers.

Now regarding "quality", women apparently like trash quality, so it is what it is. For fragrances that I wear for myself/non-seduction purposes, I have higher quality fragrances.

With everything said, I probably will just opt for mainstream bangers instead of Jeremy's niche versions. I don't feel threatened for "smelling like everyone else" because I'm confident that I stand out myself.

>> No.14989224

>>14989203
To me, it’s not a matter of insecurity. I just don’t find designer fragrances interesting. To me, it’s like the difference between a famous painting and a painting of a bowl of fruit you buy at an outlet mall for 20.00 because you just want something to hang on your wall, y’know? (Sorry I cant give better examples there, I’m not an artfag)

I just don’t want to smell generic. It doesn’t interest me. I kind of go the other way on it. I’m ok with not smelling “mass appealing” because I’m confident enough in my own charm and personality that I don’t feel the need to use a “panty dropper” to get attention. Just different approaches I guess. I guess I just feel like a compliment doesn’t mean anything if you’re only getting it because you’re wearing something you don’t particularly like for the expressed purpose of getting compliments. It’s like if you asked someone if they liked your shirt and they said yes, I wouldn’t count that because I was only complimented because I solicited it. I’d much rather have someone compliment me on something I live and chose myself, because that’s more reflective of my personality, and thus the compliment is more personal.

Again can't disagree with you. That's why I'm only interested in fragrances that will make girls want to follow you around to catch that sillage/want to dig their nose into your body to deeply inhale that fragrance. Compliments, by themselves, really are meaningless for what I'm looking for.

To me, it is just about maximizing seduction points. Like scoring high on a test. Difference between 85% and 90% kind of thing. Pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

But I agree that I don't want to wear something I don't like smelling just because it is effective. Luckily, there are some fragrances out there that work well with women that I don't actually mind smelling on myself.

I think I would compare them to steroids. You can get muscular and big without them, but they are performance enhancement drugs. Seeing how my girlfriend reacted to me wearing it was eye opening. But I do have to say this only applies if you're attractive. People who are unattractive shouldn't be reading what I'm saying and think it will apply to them.

>To me, it’s like the difference between a famous painting and a painting of a bowl of fruit you buy at an outlet mall for 20.00 because you just want something to hang on your wall, y’know?
The difference is not at all the same, if paintings were fragrances then the 20.00 dollars mall one could have been created by as much a great painter than the niche one. The difference in price would mostly be explained by economy of scale, distribution, publicity, etc...

Most people don't understand this, or else they would be sampling fragrances made by their favourite perfumers instead of jumping straight to niche made by untrained "perfumers".

So I finally got my samples of Bee, Moth, Hummingbird and Macaque (together with a hand written short message from Viktor <3).
1) Macaque - erm ... I didn't expect I will actually smell like a monkey? It's really like you went to zoo, sat near some chimps and powdered yourself. Wearable, but not my cup of tea.
2) Hummingbird - It lists loads of notes, but only few stand out. Decent flowery smell. Not that much of a unisex, it's fitting more for some qt.
3) Moth - wow! Really good. This is true niche - you won't smell stuff that is similar and yet it's something you can bring to the office and go around without drawing weird looks. Cinnamon, honey, smoke, cumin all stand out.
4) Bee - mind blown, really. This is wonderful. You need to like sweet inscence smells though. If you like CdG Avignon / Zagorsk or MFK grand soir or Light my Fire by Killian

You know, composing perfumes is not like being a brain surgeon or teaching graduate string theory. You don't need a formal education to do this. For sure it helps though, but it is not necessary. There are untrained perfumers who are fucking good at what they do and trained perfumers who can only recreate cliches taught at school. You've got a point and I wouldn't buy a perfume of an unknown, untrained, self-proclaimed 'niche' perfumer. However, provided enough of social proof from other people/reviews I wouldn't be afraid of buying a sample. I think that people Sarah McCartney from 4160Tuesdays, this faggot Josh or the person standing behind Papillon fragrances that LT raves about are the best proofs that untrained folks can be as good, or better, than these kids leaving Grasse (most of whom will go to industrial fragrance business anyway - Givaudan, Firmenich not highly risky business of making your own perfume brand is where real, stable, money is).
Also you're fighting a strawman with your other part of post. No one here is against sampling fragrances made by their favourite perfumers. I almost unequivocally like everything that Bertrand Duchaufour created. I also discovered Carven L'Eau Intense by looking up what has Kurkdjian had created before he created his own house.
