japanese people are normally lauded as being "so groundbreaking in street fashion", but really that's if you're looking in certain areas and even then it's so oversaturated now with boring "comfy" oversized fitting plain clothes, like norm-core sized up one size.

highschool kids are all influenced by their peers, so girls generally all group up and dress the same (one-piece dresses, short skirts, heels/platform sneakers, fur collar/cuff coats in the winter); or streetwear leaning because hip-hop dance has been a big thing for awhile now.

guys dress NPC-core, some still stick to the whole "mode, hip-hop, comfycore, etc.." mold; moreso than hypebeasts it's more ミハー aka just following trends from the runways and buying designer named goods and wearing it all at once (gucci, balenciaga, etc..)

there are the "cool kids", wearing stuff like john lawrence sullivan, thrift/vintage, and shit like that and all get weird haircuts and hangout.

literally in japan it's all image and no substance. you can't talk to any of these people are expect to get some kind of conversation of substance. those "cool kids" won't know shit about the music their looks are inspired from, hip-hop kids are very surface-level with the aesthetics, and the typical girly-girls is similar to talking to a microwave running for a few minutes.
