Thoughts about this as a more autumn/winter fig scent? Have Fico di Amalfi and Ferrari Noble Fig, but they scream summer. Phylosikos doesn't sound too different to these two, and Marc Jacobs Men is said to have poor longevity. Tried Dior Dune as well but was nothing special. Help me on my quest for a non-summer fig.

Review anon. It’s just 1.5ml I got from a bottle purchase like two weeks ago (mortal skin). I just ordered from a high end place and they let me pick 4 samples of literally anything. So I grabbed that, Enigma parfum, Roja de la nuit 3, and Stephane Humbert black gemstone. I don’t have hookeranon money for a bottle. But a 7.5ml in the future perhaps. But I’ve appreciated smelling the 3 Roja samples I’ve got. The quality really is there but those prices are oppressive.

I do worry about Roja’s quality in the future. These IFRA changes are gonna hit his stuff hard, plus I’ve noticed he no longer has many of the EDP/Extrait versions of his mainline scents anymore in his shop, just the colognes. In fact, I’m not seeing any bottles of Enigma EDP/Extrait anywhere. I hope they’re not being discontinued. I have my bottle of the EDP and it’s possibly my favorite frag ever. I’d hate to have to ration it.

That is a distinct possibility. Unfortunately, one of the things I love about Enigma so much is its depth and richness. The jasmine, creamy vanilla, and boozy cognac. I haven’t tried the cologne yet, but I really hope it’s not too much lighter.

Extra happy I got that bottle of A Midsummer Dream in Amsterdam last time now. Even if it weren’t limited edition, it was probably on the chopping block.

Let me look up my old post.
>Yeah, that's a bummer but longevity is really bad in Philosykos. If you'd like to trade some of the projection for a bit more for longevity then I can recommend trying Diptyque's oil roll-on. I gifted it to my gf for some occasion and it lasts for 4h+. The projection is about a feet though, changing to a skin scent halfway through. Let me think about other stuff. Did you try Byredo Pulp? It's very fig-heavy but there are also some other fruits, so idk if that's your thing. You should test it first though as it is literally a photorealistic strong pulp scent that some people hate. I sold my bottle because while I appreciated it a lot, I couldn't imagine wearing it. I can easily imagine people around you asking themselves who spilled some freshly squeezed juice no his clothes. Performance is very, very good though. I've sampled two fig heavy L'artisans at some point; Premier Figuier and Caligna. PF was really snice and hitting the same vibe as Philosykos (but a bit more smooth and complex). Caligna was more woody and deeper. Both worth sampling imo. Acqua di Parma has some fig-based scent in their blue line. It was on of my favourites of this line and they should be readily available for testing in any department store. When it comes to cheapies then I've heard good things about Ferrari's Noble Fig (don't mind the brand - the line it belongs to is quite good, I really liked my Bright Neroli from them). You can also give a try to Molinard's Figue, I was quite impressed about their scents. Especially for the pricetag. But didn't test it on my skin. Also Armani Prive line had some Fig scent that was very fresh and bright now that I'm thinking about it. Come back and report if you liked any of these recs.

Like I said in my black gemstone review the Stephane Humbert I have sampled have this weird desert/Egypt space magic vibe. Like the scene in aliens vs predator where the predator ships are just landing around the Ancient civilization ruins. That’s what’s in my mind for mortal skin. Well, I mean, obviously I’d say yes, given that it’s probably my favorite frag of all time, but it depends what you like. If you’re expecting dusty, spicy tobacco like TV or Herod, you’re not gonna get that. It’s very rich, boozy, creamy vanilla. The jasmine is very natural smelling and dominates the drydown along with the vanilla. The opening has a Vanilla Coke kind of thing going, probably from the bergamot, ginger, and pepper combining with the cognac and jasmine. It’s not really a tobacco scent as you’ve probably experienced them before.

I’d say it is a more mature smell, though. Definitely not a fuccboi clubbing scent. If you’re young, it may not suit you. The cologne may be better in that regard, haven’t tried it yet so I’m not sure.

Several years ago I managed to figure out an Anon's basenotes account using some wardrobe screenshots they posted. I agree with the first part but there’s nothing with being a thread ‘personality’ anonymously. It makes this general more vital and more fun. I still got around 1/3 of my 10ml decant left that I keep in the office when I need a refreshment. Oud Ispahan is ok but too sweet for my likings. Black Aoud is still my favourite rose-oud combo. I can definitely see why someone might love it though. It’s high quality and very round. Invasion Barbare is very snice but not that different from HdP 1725 to justify the price difference (even if the latter performs worse). I didn’t like Feve nor Layton. They seemed to me to be preplanned to be crowdpleasing meek gourmands. PG 10 is my favourite gourmand. I think that Civet is not that challenging. The animatic note is blended beautifully. This. I think we’ve got a very good culture of non attention or namewhoring in this thread. They first of all contribute a lot here. People who get mad at occasional more epitomic styled posts are typically newfags.

If there is one thing i learned from the liberal arts is that you first need to solidify your foundations in order to develop your knowledge into more complex topics. I am simply applying this rule to fragrances.
Many of these are exactly for that. For example, i have also bought a sample of Aventus, even though I will most likely not like it, i feel that i need to know what it is about. The others are a mix of that and my own personal curiosity, for example, I want to compare GIT with Cool Water and Layton with other common clubbing scents.

I would say the opposite. PF smelled like a cheap knockoff of Philosykos to me. But it was a little heavier which may make it better suited to winter.

I also disagree with this in some ways. For me, Caligna bright green and nothing else. A little too austere.

>kouros

i stood languishly at the urinal with a migraine creeping slowly. my eyes held shut tightly. "what a terrible week.", i thought. suddenly a wave of calm fell over me and the pain in my ears subsided. i felt good. content even for once. as i finished i watched the urine bounce off the toilet puck. "heh, urinal cake", i said softly to myself. "anon...", a voice said off the wall. i turned. nobody. "anon..." "who's there!", i shouted. deep in the heart of every man there is the the aching knowledge of something knowing he exists. in the recess of every moment of solitude, in the cove of his mind where he finds a quiet solace, there is something that knows. "i know you've not forgotten me, anon", said kouros, it's profile obscured beneath the soap dispenser, it's shape stamped into the darkness. "w-what are you doing here?", i ask. "how did you get here?" "i've always been here. before you've been, i've lived a thousand years. when there had been nothing left, i'd endured. i am the stone of time.", kouros said quietly. "what do you want with me? why me?", i said. "douse", said kouros with a slight growl. i sprayed my neck. "i've lived, but i've nothing left. when there is a void in the heart of needs, you learn to breathe meaning into existence", kouros whispered, now standing on my shoulder. "there is story to be told, and i feel the terror in your mind, a wildness so unhinged that with my words i hope to tame.", said kouros. and so kouros went to tell his story. in that lonely truckstop restroom it told me it's tale of misfortune, of fate, of war. it told me that it is far from it's place of birth, but that this misfortune is it's gift of strength, and that with every missed opportunity or bad judgement it wroughts another step in the right direction, and that sometimes you want to do wrong in a world of rights. but it became lost in the wavelength, and now it needs me. "i need you", said kouros. "yes", i said.

You what mate? It's obviously a jump on making more money. Not every pharmacy sells the private line but most of them carry the basic signature line. Apparently they figured out that it's appealing to a wide enough audience to move it out from the private line. This man does't give a fuck about his fans. Also, a sale assistant in Selfridges told me that this was not exactly the same as the private blend. That the signature line Beau de Jour was “lighter with more emphasis on the fresher notes”. However, for me they smell identical.

Aoud Lemon Mint is a good choice. Your intuition about heading to Mancera/Montale for that purpose is correct. Try Sensual Instinct, Red Tobacco if you want some oriental daily driver from them. Aoud Leather if you want their take on Tuscan Leather DNA (Arab Tradition by Nabeel is also a good one but it performs worse) or Cedrat Boise if you want modern fruity chypre Aventus-like DNA. lads can you point me in the right direction? i'm trying to hone in what frags to try next. So far ive tried:
>Le Male
Smells pretty good but its a little too sweet and it smells too twinky where I am more of a twunk (no homo). like the mint and lavender so i spray it on my sheets for sleepy time
>Azzaro ph
smells like my grandpas old barbershop and shaving cream which I like but i dont think it suits me because its very manly. still like sniffing once in a while tho
>Encre Noire
I like it smells like damp forest and I like the cedary thing
>Kiehls musk
like wearing it around the house but its a little too funky and hippy for me to want to wear it outside. the flowery (rose? idk) is nice
>CK one skock
little sweet but I like the sweet tobacco smell
>fat electrician
Smells like cheap sour mash whiskey in a good way. kind of tangy and woody and boozy
>Aramis havana
Spicy with a cigar-y. I like this but it smells like a 45 year old middle manager and it hurts my nose. wear it around the house sometimes

I guess I was just wondering if you all could help explain some of the shit I'm smelling. I've looked at the notes and i'm too dumb to figure out how they fit together. pic kind of related might try that next. hoping itll be a cross between EN and the ck shock

>> No.14940440

>>14940371
Layton isn’t niche. Anything that has ever appeared on a jeremey video to be devoured by coomers will never be niche in my eyes. PDM demands and feeds off too much airtime like creed. It isn’t just the fragrance that is niche but also the behavior and approach/mentality of the house. PDM is coomer core. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s only niche in name.

Seen the latest video on Jeremy’s channel? It’s being deleted soon and it’s got his brother in it asking you to send Jeremy a Happy Birthday message. I wonder how many dick picks he’ll have to sift through?

Also, I really can’t help but think that Jeremy came up with this idea himself. It’s such a Bateman thing to do.

>> No.14940482

Of course he came up with it. Just from his brothers appearance and speech they definitely look like they are on different wavelengths. Idk if they even talk much. This is just for Jeremy to humble brag his fragrance army to the rest of the fragcom and fill the emotional void in his heart

If you like a mint done in a non-twinky way try Carven L'Eau Intense. It was composed by Francis Kurkdjian and you can get it for £30 per 100ml. Really fresh and zesty stuff.
I agree that Azzaro could smell dated to some. If you want a modern fougere then try Penhaligon's Sartorial (you can't go wrong with Duchaufour) which still has a classic British fougere DNA in it or Versace Dylan Blue (I don't like it but it's arguably one of the most epitomic ambroxan heavy neofougeres). If you feel fancy pantsy then Invasion Barbare by MDCI or HdP 1725 are waiting for you.
Encre Noire is good. Try its flankers as well which are not as dark as the original black EN.
Kiehl's is a weird one. On some people's skin it's a dirty animalic musk. On mine it's rather flowery white musk. The later is what I believe you smell as well on your skin. If you want to go to the extreme with animalic musk then go check Koublai Khan from Serge Lutens. If you want something like a soft white musk then try literally any of mall-tier fragrances lol. White musk is the most prevalent scent in industrial perfumery business. Literally any powder detergent or fabric softener smells of it.
On Shock is snice. Try Burberry London for berry-christmasy tobacco. Or look up Chergui by Serge Lutens if you want something more sophisticated.
Fat Electrician is a weird one but what you like aobut it is probably vetiver (this is the same note that you call 'cedary' in Encre Noire). Try Terre d'Hermes Intense Vetiver for a dirty take on it (which is imo out of this line) and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver if you want rather a nice clean vetiver.
Aramis Havana is very snice but I agree that you need to have an appropriate vibe to pull it off. I'd suggest you to sell the stuff that you're not sure about and from now on sample first. Put this in perspective. You'll probably not finish these 7 bottles in next 5years so the sooner you'll get rid of stuff you don't like the quicker you'll discover fragrances you love

>> No.14940560

>>14940551
Two more comments. Start going to your local mall and smell the shit out of basic designer scents, so you'll have a solid base of points of reference. Don't jump into buying bottles before going first through a sample and then 5/10ml decant. I can't stress this enough. Otherwise you'll end up with an embarrassing collection that you'll grow to hate. Trust me that you'll change your taste for hundred times in the first months of this hobby. You don't know a shit about what you really like right now. You'll also save yourself a shitload of money. Once you're done with mall-tier climb up the frag-iceberg chart. You can find samples on eBay (most of designer fragrances are readily available there as 1/2/5ml samples) or websites linked in OP for more niche stuff.

I've bought my first fragrance today, Versace Dylan Blue and have The Dreamer coming in tomorrow. (I'm 24 but just never bought them myself, got some as gifts but mostly just wore deodorant). Planning on using a neutralising deodorant to mask my BO and use a fragrance for a pleasant smell from now on, thoughts?

Really like the DB as a daily thing and bought The Dreamer for more of an occasional thing, to change it up from time to time.

Howmany fragrances do you guys use as a daily rotation? And I would like to know if you guys think variation is key or the exact opposite, having a signature smell? I'm thinking the latter but I'm open to your thoughts.

>Antaeus
Big anamalic vanilla nothing like what I have in the collection at the moment. Great top heart and base notes. Goes from a dirty vanilla castoreum to a clean citrus floral.
>Chanel Pour Monsieur

There's probably some veracity here, but I can't help but think Bee isn't quite so extreme as e.g. Hyrax or T. rex, for whom the barrier of entry is considerably much higher.

But that's the fun thing about fragrances. As an artform, it almost instantly filters plebs, as it is not so readily accessible as film (which mostly thrives on capeshit blockbusters) or literature (which has essentially died last century). Most people don't bother with fragrance. Most people who do reach dumbly for either cheap TJMaxx shit, or slightly higher for Macy's-tier stuff. Otherwise, you are a slave to trendy Youtubers. And lastly you have the few who would even bother a) researching houses and b) looking into niche.

Zoologist is just a house many of us have tried and use it as a reference benchmark. I branch out (trying some Roja and Stephane Humbert lately) but the brand works as a good benchmark. When I say “trex” challenging you immediately know the level I mean, or “bat” or “hyrax”, “bee”, and “squid”. It creates vivid imagery when trying to describe something else. It’s a good reference for describing the animalic level of another fragrance. Funny you mention them, i just got back from the shops and had a smell of both and now I have to ask, whats the average age of this general? I'm 22 and kouros would be impossible for me to pull off. I will give it that it smells great though, but I imagine if I wore that it would be like a 70 year old wearing Sauvage (which the sales assistant told me to try but I said nah). Fahrenheit I feel I could pull off, it's not quite as spicy as Kouros, but I think Kouros is better. Overall, they're both pretty damn good and not the memes I thought they would be, but I think it really depends on your age if you want them.

Yesterday I tried By the Fireplace and Oud Ispahan.
By the Fireplace was quite interesting. It reminds me of something from my childhood, but I can’t exactly remember what it is. Something that smells like the burnt chestnut note that it has.
It does smell a bit like liquid smoke, but not enough to bother me. It does sort of replicate the feeling of being at a fireplace, but it is not tridimensional enough, in my opinion. At first I thought it had to do with the fact that the smoke that comes from a fireplace has a heat component to it, but then I remembered that there are plenty of fragrances, like fat electrician out of the top of my head, that to this tridimensionality quite well.
I still need to try Oud Ispahan again as I did not apply it properly. I had never smelled Oud before, so it was quite a surprise to get to know the skankiness that it has. It is beautiful how the rose transitions to the Oud, though. Very feminine.
It it natural Oud? On the scale of tame synthetic to bovine ass, where does it sit? I am very curious about the complexities that this note may bring.

Bought and pulled Kouros most of last summer when I was 22, am 23 now. Spray on the chest and maybe back of the neck if you're feeling confident. I combined it with Eau Sauvage on my wrists and on the sides of my neck so that you get the nice Kouros projection and freshness of Eau Sauvage if people get too close.

I smell like gin because I hate everyone, but not as much as I hate myself.

Im 28 and I'm the guy who has tried kouros. I know ive overthinking things (it's part of the fun lol) but I think im at a transition stage where shit like eros seems too immature but i cant pull off really masculine scents yet because i still look pretty young. who knows maybe i just dont like them. ill grab a sample of sartorial or something and compare it to azzaro.

Yeah that was me, I'll check Perfumery out, also whats the deal with Chemist Warehouse having some stuff only on their website? I wanted to try CDNIM but no brick and mortar store has it and CW has it but only on their site so I have no choice but to blind buy it.

I don't have the confidence to pull it off. I kind of need perfumes to pull off the assertiveness I lack.

I often wonder if people who say EN smells like a forest have ever left their houses

Now, now dont be a prick :). I guess I should have said it reminds me of a damp forest. I go hiking and mountain biking quite a bit and it reminds me of piles of partially decayed forest refuse (pine needles, leaves, etc.) a day after it has rained. More like the damp dirt you find in a forest. What does it remind you of?
